PROGRESSIVE MARTIAL ARTS MARCH 2016 SIFU’S CORNER March happens to be one of my favorite months at PMA because I know that it is during this time of the year that we will be visited by one of my most influential instructors, Sifu Dan Inosanto. I have had the great fortune of being able to host an annual seminar featuring Sifu Dan for many years now and I don’t take any one of these times for granted. It’s a time where I get to spend quality time with him while also getting to share him with my students. I hope that if you haven’t done so already, that you will participate in this amazing 2 day seminar with this martial arts legend. He is not only an encyclopedia of history and martial arts but he is also a great human being, from which all of us can learn. Remember, you don’t have to have experience to join us and I urge you not to miss out on this once in a lifetime type of opportunity. Looks as if it’s gonna be a big one, so make sure you reserve your spot! Last month was a short one but not lacking in it’s exciting moments. We finally changed up the Adult Schedule and added the Jun Fan and Jeet Kune Do classes. Attendance has been amazing and there’s a new exciting energy in those classes. I look forward to growing this program! We also saw students from our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program compete on February 20. Our PMA students did an amazing job under the guidance of Professor Brandon Bennett and we had an impressive showing that day. Please see inside for detailed results. Congrats to all the participants! Within our BJJ program, we also saw some new promotions! Congratulations to our own Coach Andrew Lam, who received his Brown Belt under Professor Brandon Bennett. It was a special promotion, which took place at the Renzo Gracie Academy and Andrew was presented with his new rank in front of many of his training partners and other coaches. We are so proud of him! Also, big congrats to Coach James Guccione for his win in a Muay Thai bout on Friday, February 26th. It’s been an all-around great month for our PMA competitors! I was also excited to bring our PMA Sayoc Group to Kapatid Martial Arts in Pleasantville for a Northeast Training Group get together where we did some exciting training with our Sayoc family. Please be reminded that there will be NO CLASSES ON SATURDAY, MARCH 12TH due to the seminar taking place that day. PROGRESSIVE MARTIAL ARTS MARCH 2016

There are some students that you can’t miss when you encounter them at the school. Carlos is one of those students whose smile and energy is so positive that you can’t help but notice him.

Carlos started training in martial arts at the age of 10 in Shotokan Karate. He was always a huge Bruce Lee fan so he knew eventually that he would practice in his art. After looking for a place to train and doing research on schools in his area, he came across PMA and “everything clicked”, he says. “It was the closest school to me and the ratings said a lot of good things about the school so I couldn’t wait to check it out.”

It’s been 2 years now that he’s been training at PMA and since that time, Carlos has seen so many benefits. “I feel healthier, mentally and physically stronger. I feel like I carry myself as a better person from who I was before and to be honest there are tons of tools you learn that can be applied in training that can be applied to different situations in real life.” His favorite part about training at PMA is the knowledge he gets from it and he loves working on combinations. He also really loves the vibe at the school. “The very positive vibes make training that much better and the staff is very professional.”, he goes on to say. “I really enjoy training and I like the challenges of training and that motivates me.”

Outside of PMA, Carlos is a full time student at York College. He also likes to play soccer and loves trying foods from different countries. He also recently completed the Instructor Certification Course at PMA.
