Main purpose To assist in the maintenance of the existing DFA network in the region to ensure that all Service Level Agreements are reached. To ensure a resilient and stable network for current and future customers by attending to breaks, mainte-nance, routes and link build.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS & TASKS)
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The Assistant Splicer will assist the Splicer on all cate-gories below:
1. Network Maintenance – Availability and MTTR
Identify weak spots and breaks in the network that are high risk:
o Identify high traffic routes (check diversity)
o Protect weak spots until it can be rectified, not allowing access
o Rectify / remedy cutting over cables and / or cut-ting in new joints
o Maintain shortest timelines between temporary and permanent repairs: Use shortest time to get

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
client to work (to meet SLA)
Resolve all breaks in the area within the set SLA agreement (4 hours)
Maintain handle and route on a daily basis (cleaning, numbering, slack management and labelling)
Slack: Slack bracket – route cables and label cables
2. Miscellaneous & General
Perform any other work related duties and responsi-bilities that may be assigned from time-to-time by management
Competencies and Minimum Requirements:
Working conditions
Assistant Splicers spend 95% of their daily working hours in the field to perform maintenance on the network. The work requires a lot of driving as well as irregular working hours and overtime. Health and Safety is a big fac-tor in the daily operations of the Splicer
Knowledge, skills, and qualifications
N1 – N3 Certificate / Grade 12
1 year technical experience in the Optical Fibre environment (Construction and Maintenance)
Knowledge of test equipment (OTDR) and Health and Safety is recommended
Problem solving individuals with a competitive nature will stand out above the peers
Must have driver’s license

Self-directed, friendly and calm under pressure
