JOB DESCRIPTION Learning Support Teacher

This post is subject to the conditions of employment contained in the Jebel Ali Primary School contract. Qualifications Required Qualified Teacher Status (UK degree with QTS or UK degree with UK based PGCE or degree recognised in the UK

enabling the individual to teach). Recognised qualification in an area of SEN. Purpose To work under the instruction / guidance of the SENCO and senior staff to undertake work/care/support

programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils. Duties To offer high quality and appropriate teaching support to all children receiving Learning Support (LS). To effectively manage Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for all children receiving additional support for their

learning and Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs) where necessary. To ensure IEPs and IBPs are reviewed termly and realistic but challenging targets are set on order to enable

further progress to be made. To work closely with class teachers. To work closely with parents for the benefit of their children, arranging regular meetings and case conferences as

required. To assist parents with school transfer if necessary by offering help, support and advice. To work in partnership with the Year Leaders and Assistant Headteachers to ensure children meeting the criteria

for various levels of support are assessed promptly and action taken as necessary. To liaise on a regular basis with other Learning Support staff to ensure the smooth running of the department. To assist the SENCO with assessment of new children who may be in need of additional support. To follow the guidelines as set out in the LS procedures for the school. To assist the Senior Leadership Team in ensuring all children can fully access the curriculum. To ensure school policies are adhered to and that planning is in line with NC and National Strategies. To assist the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Headteachers in managing the admission of pupils to the

school. To assist with Assessment and Reporting across the school and to liaise with the coordinators as necessary in

order to improve tracking and target setting. Together with the SENCO, provide an accurate Learning Support register for the school. To ensure that there is a smooth transition between the key stages by regular communication regarding Year 2

children moving to Year 3 and Year 6 children moving to High school. Undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil

responses. Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use. Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school. Together with the SENCO audit resources and manage the annual order for the SEN Department within

timescales set out by the Senior Leadership Team. To establish good relationships with pupils, staff, parents and Governors. To keep up to date with Educational issues.
