Job Title: Community Development OfficerSalary: 28,325.00 pro-rataHours: 21 hours per week, permanent contract depending on funding.Location: Normally Gorbals Parish Church Glasgow. Currently staff are working from home. Accessibility: Givin’ it Laldie is committed to meeting any access needs applicants might have. Gorbals Parish Church is fully accessible.

Background:Givin' it Laldie (GiL) is a grassroots Community Music Project based in the Gorbals, Glasgow. We were set up in 2010 to use singing and music-making to bring people together to improve health and well-being, foster a sense of belonging, and help people build resilience when living in situations of poverty, poor health, community division and social isolation.

Gorbals is a rapidly changing area on the south bank of the River Clyde. It is made up of a wide mixture of housing stock, including old and new residents, asylum seekers, refugees, and some areas of multiple deprivation. The area is part of the City Council's “Thriving Places” project, focusing on partnership working to plan, resource and deliver services together with local communities.

We run 8 weekly music sessions in the Gorbals including:

● G5 Kids Choir

● Sing for Life

● Sing for Health

● Strum for Life

● Strum for beginners

● Strum for intermediates

● Singing sessions in Moffatt St and Blackfriars Dementia units.

We also run monthly singing sessions and eight dementia-friendly performances for residents in local Sheltered Housing. We work closely with partners to offer bespoke music sessions and most recently have run music cafés, song writing sessions and singing groups for partners such as New Gorbals Housing Association, TASK Childcare and The Barn. We also support our groups to volunteer their skills and energy through performance at our two-yearly shows, Gorbals Fair, local fundraising activities and more.

Responsibilities: This is a new post for GiL to enable the organisation to better reach, respond to and support the local Gorbals community. During the first year it will be developed and refined in response to the needs of the charity but responsibilities will include the following.

Community Development and Communications: approx. 40% of time

● Communicating / building relationships with participants, ensuring their access needs are catered for and liaising with musicians to ensure clear communication at all times.

● Managing the GiL website and social media; keeping them updated, writing news articles, liaising with GiL team to write blogs.

● Supporting the Friends of Laldie Scheme; writing newsletters to keep them updated, promoting the scheme to gain new members.

● Attending partnership and networking meetings and developing opportunities and relationships from these meetings.

● Building relationships with people in the Gorbals.

● Supporting the GiL manager to create engaging content for external marketing to potential participants, funders, partners and donors.

Workshop Support: approx. 30% of time

● Providing practical support at Gorbals Parish Church on Wednesdays where 5 groups take place throughout the day. E.g. Keeping registers up to date, making teas and coffees, supporting participants to fill in registration and permissions paperwork, setting up the space and tidying up again, encouraging volunteering, linking participants and visitors into other services and supports in the area.

● Being responsible for Health and Safety and Fire Safety.

● First Aider and Fire Marshall on a Wednesday.

● Key holding responsibilities: opening and closing the building for workshops and operating the alarm.

Admin Support: approx. 20% of time

● Office management; ensuring we have all the resources we need.

● Support financial procedures by collecting and coding invoices.

● Keep staff, volunteer and participant data up to date and stored appropriately.

● Keep our monitoring data up to date.

● Support the collection and analysis of evaluation data.

● Support the writing of key GiL policies and procedures.

● Supporting the writing of funding applications and reports through proofreading and collecting information.

● Support the recruitment and management of new staff and volunteers.

Event Management: approx. 10% of time ● Working with the GiL Manager to put on local community music events, supporting partner

events, fundraising and awareness raising activities including: Invitations and promotion, risk assessments, liaising with partners, catering, parental permissions, monitoring and evaluation.

Carry out any other duties as required by GiL in line with the general responsibility of the post.

Essential Qualities:

Skills and Experience

● Qualification in Community Learning and Development and/or 3 years work experience in the voluntary sector in a similar role.

● A creative, adaptable individual with a strong interest in and/or experience of Community Development.

● Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills with an understanding of how to communicate with people from different backgrounds and experiences.

● Strong written skills including the ability to write blogs, newsletters and engaging social media content.

● Experienced in managing organisational social media and websites.

● Expertise in analysing the effectiveness of social media output.

● Experience of writing for external publications or social media posts for an organisation.
