Introduction Agro means Agriculture and Enterprise means business hence Agro Enterprise Development can also be called Agribusiness development. It is a three (3) year programme. Agro-Enterprise Development covers the entire scope of activities concerning supply of inputs, production, processing, transportation and marketing of agriculture and related produce. It cuts across various sectors and encompasses the institutions and businesses serving the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors. The rationale behind the programme is to provide professional and academic career for prospective students to enable them contribute towards Agro Enterprise Development industry, academia, research bodies and other aspects of the economy in the country. The Competency Based Training (CBT) instructive approach is used in facilitating the programme. The training is to produce graduates who will have required experimental hand-on skills, knowledge, attitude and values for sufficient confidence, motivation and capacity to start sustainable small-scale agro-based business or work in any agro-based industry. Relevance of the Programme The programme aims at: Providing adequate, capacity and sufficient skills to do business out of agricultural production and marketing of agriculture products. Training students to plan, mobilize resources, implement and evaluate agricultural businesses. Training students to utilize the principles and benefits of post-harvest technology for enhanced food security and wealth creation. Programme Content (Areas of coverage) 1. Crops and animals production 2. Post harvest technology and quality assurance and Agro processing Technology and packaging. 3. Marketing Sales and Advertising Promotion. 4. Farm management and organisation and Farm accounting. 5. Soil Science and Water Conservation. Job Prospect 1. Students can work in any of the scientific research institute such as Crops Research Institute, Savannah Agricultural Research Institute, Food Research Institute, Soil Research Institute and Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana, Oil Palm Research Institute 2. They can also work in the ministries such as Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Ghana Irrigation Development Authority, Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD), Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association(VEPAG). 3. Any food processing company such as Nkulenu Processing Ltd, Praise Processing and Export Ltd. Cocoa processing company Ltd 4. Non-governmental organization such as Benso Oil Plantation Ltd, Ghana Palm Oil Producers company 5. Sole Proprietorship type of Business such as Agro Chemicals Enterprise, Farm tools and machinery factories, Feed milling and rationing Factory 6. Farm manager and Accountant in Agro based concerns. 7. Commercial farmer in the areas such as, Crops (vegetable, fruit, tree crops etc.) Poultry (turkey, guinea fowls, quails, broilers etc.) Livestock (goat, sheep, cattle etc.) Non traditional Agriculture (Fishery, Snails. Bee keeping, Glasscutter, Mushroom).
