• Your resume should never be “done”• You should modify for nearly all submissions• Look at the job posting• Proofread!!!• Recruiters often spend less than 1 minute

Specific Elements
• Strong objective/summary/profile that relates to the position or company
• We want to know where you work now/last• We want to know a little about the company• We want to know if you’re local• We want to match your experience to 2 or 3
specific criteria from the hiring manager
Sample Objective
• An innovative, results oriented, team builder with more than ten years of line
management experience in fulfillment, supply chain operations and professional
services who has consistently contributed to bottom line performance. Proven
abilities in process development and change management. Viewed as an
energetic involved leader who has significantly reduced costs and improved
operating metrics.
• Senior level in-house counsel with more than 14 years of experience with
publicly traded healthcare companies; extensive knowledge of legal and
regulatory issues associated with healthcare industry; strong leader with proven
reputation for assisting management team in achieving goals, while also
addressing often complex legal and regulatory requirements.
More Details
• Don’t use the Word templates• .pdf’s are fine, but Word is clearly preferred• No fancy graphics, make it easy to read• 3 pages max• Add relevant searchable terms
Cover Letters
• Cover letters/emails are not dead!• We want to know if you can write well• Say something that will impress me• 3 paragraph structure
Elements of Your Cover
• Paragraph #1 – indicate what position you are interested in and flatter the company
• Paragraph #2 – add additional detail about why you’re qualified
• Paragraph #3 – close/summarize, thank you and add “looking forward to learning more about this opportunity” element

• You have several solid versions of your resume
• You have a supply of content for cover letters/emails
• You can handle rejection…..
Weekly Job Search Plan
• Target 2 hours per day• If you’re submitting resumes mid-morning is
best• Do SOMETHING every day• Keep notes about what you do and note
follow-up time frames
Hunt for Leads Everywhere
• Job sites – local and national• Create a long list of local firms – visit their
websites regularly• Apply to online systems for positions that are
“close”• Don’t forget the “big guys” in town
Other Activities in Your Plan
• Update LinkedIn, clean-up Facebook• Go through your Outlook contacts• Reach out to former co-workers• Reach out to search firms• Volunteer activities
Investing Time
• You are never “done” looking for a job• Most people do not look forward to
networking• Finding a new position involves “100 cups of
coffee”
