This report is conducted by VietnamWorks – the leading online recruitment company in Vietnam. All the statistics shown in this report are resulted from thorough analysis of findings collected in surveys with jobseekers in Vietnam as well as the job posts on VietnamWorks.com. This report, thus, reflects the online recruitment market situation in Vietnam from VietnamWorks’ point of view.
OVERVIEWWHAT IS “JOBSEEKER SALARY REPORTIN VIETNAM IN 2019”?
2Methodology
VietnamWorks’ Jobseeker Salary Report In Vietnam In 2019 is conducted by quantitative methods based on the analysis from the answers of nearly 5500 jobseekers to our survey in January 2019. This survey was sent to entire VietnamWorks’ database of jobseekers, regardless industries and job levels. They are either VietnamWorks’ users or not. Personal information of participants is non-disclosure.
There is another data resource used in this report is the salary figure from job posts on VietnamWorks.com from 01/01/2018 to 31/12/2018. Most of job posts were aim to recruit local labor in Vietnam. We respect employers’ discretion, and all the data included in this report, while comprehensive, does not reveal any specific employer’s posted salary.
All the salary data used in this report is monthly gross salary. The unit of currency is VND.
This report do not show the C-levels’ salary because these data is not big enough to make meaningful conclusions.

(*) The median number is a statistical term representing one way of finding the average of a set of ‘n’ data points by taking the value of the middle number of a group of numbers arranging in ascending distribution. For example, if there are 5 jobseekers who earn respectively 10, 10, 15, 25 and 40 million VND per month, the median number is 15 million VND (the central point).
The Median Salary is a better representative than the average salary because it eliminates the effect of extremely high or extremely low salary data in the market.
This survey used Popular Salary Range and Median Salary to reflect the distribution of the salary data by job level (follow the illustration bellows). Particularly:
Median Salary is calculated by identifying the median number(*) of the salary figures in each job level
Popular Salary Range is limited within two points: 25% and 75%. The point 50% is actually the median number. It means that popular salary range shows the distribution of 50% salary data around the median point, and reflects the current popular salary benchmark.

Situation 2: If your company offers a salary from 8 million to 15 million VND (within the Popular Salary Range), this offer will be consistent with the general benchmark in the labor market.
Situation 3: If your company offers a salary over 15 million VND (which is above the Popular Salary Range) so this offer is highly competitive, because there are 75% of jobseekers with the same job level in the market earning lower salary than your offer.

8The importance of salary in attracting and retaining talent
Salary is one of the most important factors contributing in employers’ effort to retain talent. Particularly, if the salary does not meet the expectation, 80% jobseekers might have some certain responses, and even 26% of them decide to change their jobs. However, our survey shows that nearly 50% jobseekers have not received their salary raised in the past 6 months.

9The importance of salary in attracting and retaining talent
Employers can boost applications by showing adequate salary information, because a majority of jobseekers are interested in this type of information.
Besides, doing research and referring to the current market salary range suitable with your employees’ ability and working experience to make timely salary increases also play a fundamental role in retaining talent.
SALARY IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS IN ATTRACTING AND RETAINING TALENT.
