BUNBURY’S range of attractions andfuture potential was showcased toalmost 50 members of Parliament,including Premier Colin Barnett, lastweek.

The State Parliamentary Liberal Partyheld its annual conference in Bunbury,and local MLA John Castrilli did notmiss the opportunity to promote thecity and its exciting future to thevisitors.

“It was an important opportunity formyself, and members of the BunburyMarine Facilities Steering Committee,to push the case for funding for anenvironmental study to guide futuredevelopment of Bunbury’s marinefacilities,” Mr Castrilli said.

“I was very pleased to be able toshow the Premier and other membersof Parliament some of our sights, and

point out the significant opportunitieswhich are emerging.

“I am constantly telling myparliamentary colleagues what afantastic place Bunbury is, but I think itwas a different matter for them toactually experience it for themselves.”

Helen Morton, the Minister forMental Health, Disability Services andChild Protection, also took theopportunity to join in with the RotarySail into Life program on the waters ofKoombana Bay.

“I know that Minister Morton wasalso particularly impressed by what hasbeen achieved by the X2Y group, and ishoping that young people in themetropolitan area will take on some ofthe group’s initiatives in makingpositive changes in their community,”Mr Castrilli said.

John Castrilli pushed the case for funding for an environmental study to guide future development of Bunbury’s marinefacilities, when the Premier and members of Parliament visited the city last week.

Bunbury showcased to visitors

LOCAL seniors now have access to alow-cost exercise program aimed atbuilding strength and reducing the riskof falls.

John Castrilli attended the recentlaunch of Living Longer, Living Strongerat Maximum Results ExercisePhysiology along with LLLS WAManager Phil Airey, Professor EmeritusBob Ziegler and local seniors.

The program is proven to reduce therisk of falls and improves health andfitness for people aged over 50 years,and is endorsed by the Council of theAgeing and WA Department of Health.

“It is fantastic to now have thisprogram available for local residents, asfitness and strength plays a huge partin restoring and maintaining quality oflife in our later years”, Mr Castrilli said.

“The whole focus for seniors thesedays is to try and make sure we stayhealthy and keep out of hospital. Theprogram has over 10 years of provenexperience and can really help seniorsstay on their feet.”

Healthprogramfor seniors

COLOURFUL flags, national dress and awide variety of entertainment will beon display at the annual MulticulturalNight Under the Stars on Saturday,March 1.

The Bunbury Multicultural Group hasreceived a $5000 grant for the event,which showcases the diversity of theGreater Bunbury region.

It will feature art, music and dancefrom cultures around Australia and theworld.

“The multicultural night is a fantasticcelebration of diversity and a greatnight for people of all ages,” Mr Castrillisaid.

The exciting, free event will be heldat the Graham Bricknell Music Shell inBunbury.

Organisers say they are hoping toattract up to 4000 attendees to theevent which begins at 6pm.

Shamara Williams and Saswati Pal said a $5000 grant from the Office of Multicultural Interests would go towards makingthe 8th annual Multicultural Night Under The Stars bigger and better than ever.

A nightset tocelebratediversity

LOCAL sports stars and talentedmusicians will join communitymembers promoting the ChooseRespect message on the streets ofBunbury next month.

Rally 4 Respect, supported byMedibank Community Fund, is a wayeveryone can get together and bepart of the community-widerevolution that is Choose Respect.

The 2012 Rally attracted more than700 people who joined in thepeaceful march down Victoria Streetto show their support for creating arespectful community.

The Rally is run and organised byBunbury Respect Inc – passionatelocal people who believe that we caneach make a difference in ourcommunity.

The event will be family-friendlywith singing and dancing for the kids

provided by Jo Jingles as well as facepainting, balloons and much more.

“I would urge all those people whohave an interest in Choose Respectand those who want to help us createa better community to join me at theRally,” Mr Castrilli said.

“Many of the problems that I comeacross on a daily basis really couldplay out differently if we treatedothers with more respect andconsideration and that is why thisinitiative is so important.”

The Rally will be held at AnzacPark, near the Bunbury Library from4pm on Thursday March 27.
