The State Parliamentary Liberal Party held its annual conference in Bunbury, and local MLA John Castrilli did not miss the opportunity to promote the city and its exciting future to the visitors. “It was an important opportunity for myself, and members of the Bunbury Marine Facilities Steering Committee, to push the case for funding for an environmental study to guide future development of Bunbury’s marine facilities,” Mr Castrilli said. “I was very pleased to be able to show the Premier and other members of Parliament some of our sights, and point out the significant opportunities which are emerging. “I am constantly telling my parliamentary colleagues what a fantastic place Bunbury is, but I think it was a different matter for them to actually experience it for themselves.” Helen Morton, the Minister for Mental Health, Disability Services and Child Protection, also took the opportunity to join in with the Rotary Sail into Life program on the waters of Koombana Bay. “I know that Minister Morton was also particularly impressed by what has been achieved by the X2Y group, and is hoping that young people in the metropolitan area will take on some of the group’s initiatives in making positive changes in their community,” Mr Castrilli said. Bunbury showcased to visitors LOCAL seniors now have access to a low-cost exercise program aimed at building strength and reducing the risk of falls. John Castrilli attended the recent launch of Living Longer, Living Stronger at Maximum Results Exercise Physiology along with LLLS WA Manager Phil Airey, Professor Emeritus Bob Ziegler and local seniors. The program is proven to reduce the risk of falls and improves health and fitness for people aged over 50 years, and is endorsed by the Council of the Ageing and WA Department of Health. “It is fantastic to now have this program available for local residents, as fitness and strength plays a huge part in restoring and maintaining quality of life in our later years”, Mr Castrilli said. “The whole focus for seniors these days is to try and make sure we stay healthy and keep out of hospital. The Bunbury Multicultural Group has received a $5000 grant for the event, which showcases the diversity of the Greater Bunbury region. It will feature art, music and dance from cultures around Australia and the world. “The multicultural night is a fantastic celebration of diversity and a great night for people of all ages,” Mr Castrilli said. The exciting, free event will be held at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell in Bunbury. Organisers say they are hoping to attract up to 4000 attendees to the event which begins at 6pm. Shamara Williams and Saswati Pal said a $5000 grant from the Office of Multicultural Interests would go towards making the 8th annual Multicultural Night Under The Stars bigger and better than ever. A night set to celebrate diversity LOCAL sports stars and talented musicians will join community members promoting the Choose Respect message on the streets of Bunbury next month. Rally 4 Respect, supported by Medibank Community Fund, is a way everyone can get together and be part of the community-wide revolution that is Choose Respect. The 2012 Rally attracted more than 700 people who joined in the peaceful march down Victoria Street to show their support for creating a respectful community. The Rally is run and organised by Bunbury Respect Inc – passionate local people who believe that we can each make a difference in our community. The event will be family-friendly with singing and dancing for the kids provided by Jo Jingles as well as face painting, balloons and much more. “I would urge all those people who have an interest in Choose Respect and those who want to help us create a better community to join me at the Rally,” Mr Castrilli said. “Many of the problems that I come across on a daily basis really could play out differently if we treated others with more respect and consideration and that is why this initiative is so important.” The Rally will be held at Anzac Park, near the Bunbury Library from 4pm on Thursday March 27.
