Overview Peter Jones

The John Lewis Partnership incorporates the renowned chain of department stores, as well as Waitrose supermarkets. As part of an ongoing nationwide refurbishment and expansion programme, intelligent fire protection systems incorporating Apollo analogue addressable XP95 and Discovery fire detectors were fitted in approximately 90% of the John Lewis Partnership’s premises throughout the UK. The installation work was undertaken by Sayfyre Ltd.

Over the course of a ten year period, Apollo devices have been fitted in a number of new-build Waitrose and John Lewis stores, and installed across the company’s premises where large-scale refurbishment work has been undertaken.

Refurbishment work at existing stores saw Safyre Ltd upgrade many systems from the original Apollo Series 90 specification to XP95, while the partnership’s new build sites have been fitted out with Apollo Discovery detectors for greater flexibility.

Peter Jones in Sloane Square, London, is by far the most prestigious John Lewis Partnership store where Apollo detectors have been installed. With its distinctive 1930s façade, the Grade II listed building is the first premises that founder John Lewis acquired. Such a landmark building demanded a special approach in order to retain the character of Peter Jones, while also meeting the fire detection requirements of a modern department store. The vision for the interior placed considerable demands on the fire system.

Sayfyre Ltd liaised closely with consulting engineers, who designed a sophisticated system of air curtains, fans and vents that can be triggered by an alarm and which will contain smoke for a limited period. The system is also equipped with voice evacuation and includes around 1,000 Apollo XP95 devices.
