Thank you to those who are financially supporting us during the epidemic and suspension of Masses. We are praying for all our families, especially those facing financial stress.

The practice of tithing provides a regular reminder of your dependence on God. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faith-fulness and enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs.

Divine Mercy Sunday. See the bulletin for ways to participate in the Divine Mercy Chaplet this weekend. Easter Sunday has come and gone. What a different Easter Season we are experiencing. I am so glad to be able to encourage our church family (including our eChurch family) through the web stream and live stream broadcast of Mass. The response has been very positive and the suggestions made to us by the viewers have helped us a lot! I want to encourage your prayerful consideration regarding support for the work of the church. The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP), collaborating with the Archdi-ocese of Philadelphia, has made it very easy for everyone to make online contributions. Parishioners, visit www.TheCFGP.org/parish to support our parish through the Parish Support Initiative. Even after we start back to public worship this way of online giving will be very helpful to the parish, and I believe very convenient for our parishioners. I have great confidence inviting your financial support be-cause of the way we have supported our Charitable Outreach during the shelter at home restrictions. Caring for Friends (the former Aid for Friends) continues to be supported both by our cooks and our friendly visitors. The recent ‘Spring 2020’ mailed to us by Caring for Friends points to the following startling statistics: 1) 63% of senior households were forced to choose between food & medical care before COVID-19 and likely need us now more than ever; 2) 1 in 3 older adults admitted to hospitals are malnourished; 3) 1 in 7 children are living in ‘food insecure’ households. Our food collection benefiting the Honey Brook Food Pantry has had a great impact. The HBFP web page lists the follow-ing announcement: “During the first distribution since the crisis began, we served 508 people, which was 46% above our average this year and the largest single distribution ever. Over the past three weeks, a total of 945 individuals were served...a 39% increase above the average or normal...and our two largest attended openings since inception in 2014.” HBFP goes on to acknowledge St. Peter Parish’s help: “Saint Peter Catholic Church topped themselves this week with a donation of food that filled four large bins! This was so great-ly needed. We cannot thank the parishioners of Saint Peter’s enough!” I firmly believe that awareness drives generosity and financial stewardship. The need for assistance is great in the commu-nities of our area. Our parish can continue to do the work of the Lord with your assistance through planned, proportionate and sustained giving. Thank you for your generous steward-ship gifts as we continue to meet our obligations and paya-bles in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. Thanks even more for your generosity to the most needy among us. Fr. Fitzpatrick

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): We begin with prayer based on the Sunday readings followed by teaching and discussion.

Our time is guided by Keith Kibler, Nancy Schneider, Deb Reif, Jan and Todd Smith,

along with Fr. Fitzpatrick. Our candidate and potential cate-chumens this year include folks from a wide range of ages and religious backgrounds, and from no particular religious background. I invite your prayers for Justin, Nicole, Mark, and Lindsay.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.

Divine Mercy Sunday April 18 & 19, 2020

First Reading Acts 2: 42 - 47

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Responsorial: Psalm 118 R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is ever-lasting.

Second Reading 1 Peter 1: 3 - 9 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inher-itance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuine-ness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Gospel John 20: 19 - 31

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disci-ples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez Announces the Suspension of All Public Masses

in The Archdiocese Of Philadelphia beginning on Wednesday, March 18, and until further notice.

Last week, the Archbishop dispensed the faithful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. Both decisions were made in response to the growing concern over the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the directives provided by government and health depart-ment officials at the local, state, and national levels. These measures will be re-evaluated pending future developments.

Archbishop Pérez said, “As the Archbishop of Philadelphia, my first priority is to ensure the health and welfare of those entrusted to the pastoral and temporal care of our Church. So, in light of the developing Coronavirus pandemic, a decision has been made to suspend the public celebration of all Masses in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the time being.

All of us need to do our part to slow the spread of this illness. Like you, we are monitoring coronavirus developments and look forward to continuing our lives on a more normal basis.

While things may look and feel different during these uncertain times, I want to be very clear that the Catholic Church in Philadelphia is not closing down. It is not disappearing and it will not abandon you. Time and again as our history has proven the Church has risen to meet great challenges and provide a beacon of hope and light.

As your Shepherd, I promise that the Church remains steadfast and is prepared to walk with you and serve you. Neither the Church nor its charitable works will stop. God is always by our side. He never abandons us. I invite you to join me in prayerful solidarity for the intentions of the sick, suffering, and their caregivers as well as government and health officials. With God’s grace and blessing, we will navigate the difficult waters of this challenge as a united human family, for after all is said and done, we are people of Hope!”

Pastors, along with all those who work with them, will be as attentive as possible to all the spiritual, pastoral, and charitable needs of the people they serve. Priests will continue to offer the sacrifice of the Holy Mass during this period and to honor all requested Mass intentions.

Churches can remain open as a location for private prayer at the discretion of the pastor. Baptisms, Confessions, Marriages, and Funerals will take place as usual but with due regard for the limitation of participants and reasonable social distancing.

In conjunction with directives already in force in hospitals and institutions, all visits to the sick with Holy Communion, including in private homes, by priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are suspended. In such instances, only priests will be available to celebrate the Sacraments for those in immediate danger of death. In all circumstances, government and health agency directives for group size and social distancing are to be observed as the Archdiocese of Philadelphia strives to meet the pastoral and temporal needs of all those in need.

Additional information regarding opportunities for prayer and devotions are available on the Archdiocesan website.

Divine Mercy Sunday Rejoice in the Resurrection ~ Rejoice in God’s Mercy

Jesus repeatedly asked that this ancient, forgotten feast be officially pro-claimed by the Church. Christ promised that on this day His Mercy would be overflowing to those who would ask for it. Jesus told St. Faustina:

“My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy.” (Jesus to St. Faustina, Diary, 699)

1) AmazonSmile - AmazonSmile is a website operated by Am-azon that lets you enjoy the same shopping experience as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop at Ama-zonSmile (smile.amazn.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchase to PJPII School. Outreach Commission The Serenity/AA Group: “God, grant me the se-renity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Future meetings

contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommen-dations.

The Cancer Support Group meets the sec-ond Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. in Meeting Rooms SS. Drexel & Neumann. We offer support to anyone diagnosed with cancer,

anyone who is presently undergoing treatment, has com-pleted treatment, is a family member and/or caregiver. Our next meeting May 9 at 11 a.m. is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations.

Caring for Friends: Cooks: Please con-tinue to prepare meals so that we can keep the freezer full and feed those who are dependent on our help. Thank you for

your generosity. Visitors: As has been communicated to you by email, please continue to take meals to your friends but just deliver the meals to the door. You might also want to call your friend instead of the usual visit. New volunteers: We are always in need of new volunteers to participate in the ministry. At this time, volunteer cooks would be greatly appreciated. For more information, please call Ellen at 610-384-7160 or email [email protected].

The next meeting for the Caregivers Support Group will be Monday, April 20, at 10 a.m. in the Bethany Lounge. The support group will now be known as “Nourish For Caregivers.” We recognize

that virtually everyone of us will care for a loved one at some point in our lives. Nourish provides caregivers a faith perspective, as well as, practical and emotional support, use-ful tools, and shared experiences. Please come and join us and be “Nourished.” For more information please call or email: Cathy Samoylo 484-433-9705, [email protected]; or Beth Trubachik 330-242-0206, [email protected]. The date of our next gathering is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations.

Good Works: We are St. Peter Parish vol-unteers who join many other local Christian church groups in performing home repairs. We reach out in love and friendship to trans-

form substandard houses into warmer, safer, and drier homes, and by doing so, turn despair into hope. The team welcomes new volunteers of all skill levels. For more infor-mation or to be a part of Good Works, contact Jim at 610-496-1393 or [email protected].

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Do you know someone who is suffering, struggling, facing overwhelming challenges, or major life changes? Consider gift-ing them with a prayer shawl or lap blanket to

bring them comfort and let them know people are praying for them, no matter their age, faith, or problem. Our ministry members are knitters and crocheters of all skill levels and others who deliver our handiwork. All of us weave prayers into our handiwork and pray for all our recipients who live nearby, around the country, and even overseas! If you’d like to join our ministry, our gatherings are fun, inspirational, and optional. To find out more or select a piece for someone, contact Jan Smith at 610-269-1756 or [email protected]. The date of our next gathering is contingent upon the Coronavirus and CDC recommendations.

Please help feed the hungry!

The Food Drive takes place on the 4th full weekend of each month.

In the Gospel today, Jesus stands in the midst of us and says: “Peace be with you!” During Mass we turn to each other and say “Peace be with you!” As you put your gift into the St. Vincent de Paul box you say “Peace be with you!” to

those who are poor and hungry. Society of St. Vincent de Paul Helpline is 610-470-9090.

Respect Life

"Instead of death and sorrow, let us bring peace and joy to the world. To do this we must beg God for His gift of peace and learn to love and accept each other as brothers and sisters, children of God. We know that the best place for children

to learn how to love and to pray is in the family, by seeing the love and prayer of their mother and father....”
