CHERRY TREES AT SOUTH BUFFER

NATIONAL HARBOR PERIMETER + STREET TREE PLANTINGS Prince George’s County, MD

Project manager responsible for the design, construction documents, and construction administration of perimeter street tree, and median plantings.

The perimeter buffer plantings provided a layered mixed evergreen backdrop that carefully weaves in and out of the Tree Conservation Area to successfully screen unsightly offsite views. Interest was added using large “Groves” of Red Maples and London Plane Trees, tightly spaced to have a visual impact matching the grandeur and scale of National Harbor Boulevard. At the terminus of the three major cross streets, focal plantings surround large organic granite art displays. CLIENT: The Peterson Companies

NATIONAL HARBOR HARBORWALK Prince George’s County, MD

Project manager responsible for the design, construction documents, and construction administration of the Harborwalk trail at National Harbor.

The Harborwalk is a natural crushed oyster shell trail that connects National Plaza to the regional Heritage Trail, which leads south to Mount Vernon, and north to the National Mall. The design included detailing of the boulder bulkhead, seat wall, location of interactive L.E.D. sail lights, site furnishings, and landscaping. The Harborwalk provides a level of intimacy with the Potomac River unlike any in the DC area.

NATIONAL HARBOR PANORAMA POND Prince George’s County, MD

Project manager responsible for the design, construction documents, and construction administration for pond plantings and fountains.

Due to the prominent location of the pond as one of the last experiences the visitor encounters when exiting National Harbor there was a need to enhance the county required buffer planting to create a memorable experience. To accomplish this, two submersible fountains were added to the pond, creating vertical interest to a backdrop of layered mixed evergreen trees, shrub masses, ornamental grasses, fl owering ornamentals trees, aquatics, and submerged Bald Cypress trees.

Project manager responsible for the design, construction documents, and construction administration of Building M at National Harbor.

Building M is a mixed-use building that includes Class A offi ce space, ground fl oor retail, and structured parking with rooftop plantings. The design provides ADA accessibility along two major urban streetscapes to retail shops, public restrooms, and public parking facilities.

NATIONAL HARBOR BUILDING C Prince George’s County, MD

Project manager responsible for the design, construction documents, and construction administration of Building C at National Harbor.

Building C is one of the premier buildings at National Harbor. It is a mixed-use building that includes Class A offi ce space over a ground fl oor restaurant, featuring fl oor to ceiling windows that literally sit atop the Potomac River. The Building C hardscape overlooks National Plaza, the Awakening; and provides the only ADA accessible route to the southern portion of the Harborwalk.

MARTINʼS CHASE CLUBHOUSE + POOL FACILITY Loudoun County, VA

Project manager responsible for the amenity package including comprehensive streetscape enhancements, pocket parks, clubhouse and pool, and entry monuments for the rural village community. Martin’s Chase is a Certifi ed Wildlife Habitat.

At the terminus of the long entry road lies the community’s Old Farm style clubhouse, with a seamed metal roof, and wrap-around porch, the community has a fully amenitized facility while maintaining the charm of the property’s rich agricultural history. The pool design offers a 25-meter competition layout with upgraded fi nishes, lush landscaping, and articulated geometry to create an overall package on par with resort living. In addition, the design provides an event lawn, children’s play area, vibrant streetscape, and multiple rain gardens.

MARTINʼS CHASE MAIN ENTRY MONUMENTS Loudoun County, VA

Project manager responsible for design, construction documentation, construction observation, cost estimating, and value engineering of the Martin’s Chase entry monuments.

Two beautifully landscaped entry monuments fl ank the main entry drive into the site. The designs of the entry monuments are a modern interpretation of the existing stone farm walls that are still found throughout the site. The newly constructed monuments and walls utilized on-site stone, providing a level of authenticity, which is only appropriate for this rural village community.

RED CEDAR MAIN ENTRY MONUMENTS Loudoun County, VA

Project manager responsible for landscape design, construction documentation and construction observation of Red Cedar main entry monuments.

Two beautifully landscaped entry monuments fl ank the main entry drive into the site. The design incorporates the rural horse fencing common in this area of the county and stately monumentation appropriate to announce this fi ne rural village community.

Due to the monuments’ location within the storm water facility easement, a great deal of specialty construction detailing was necessary for county approval to ensure the desired landscaping would not jeopardize the structural integrity of the embankment.

STONE POINTE APARTMENTS LANDSCAPE/HARDSCAPE SET Annapolis, MD

Project manager responsible for design, construction documentation, and construction observation for the entry monument, streetscape, building and perimeter landscape and pool amenity area.

Stone Pointe is an award-winning garden apartment community with a highly amenitized clubhouse and pool facility. The pool design incorporated a beach entry design, hydrotherapy spa with cascading water feature, and outdoor dining area with fi replace. Challenges overcome on this project included maintaining ADA accessibility throughout the project, controlling access to the pool, and balancing the clients intense program with spatial limitations and function.

MARTINʼS CHASE OPEN SPACES AND VILLAGE GREENS Loudoun County, VA

Project Manager, responsible for amenity package including comprehensive streetscape enhancements, open spaces, village greens, clubhouse and pool, and entry monuments for the Rural Village Community.

The design of open spaces and village greens provided programming for the adjacent homeowners as well as the overall community through attractive amenity features, and at the same time maintained and enhanced the natural features that made this site a Certifi ed Wildlife Habitat. Design elements included hardscape-seating areas, functional open lawn for passive recreation, and enhanced wetland and tree save areas planted with native species to encourage wildlife.

MOOREFIELD STATIONGAS LINE PARKLoudoun County, VA

Project manager responsible for landscape design and planning of active and passive recreation for a 5+-acre park at the center of the transit oriented development, Moorefi eld Station.

The park is situated over a regional gas line easement and must creatively deal with planting and grading restrictions imposed by the easement. The park’s design provides equal opportunities to residents of the transit oriented development, with both passive and active recreation, and the adjacent lifestyle center with a strong urban edge extension to the park. SPRINGFIELD TOWERURBAN PLAZA DESIGNSpringfi eld, VA

Project manager responsible for landscape design of a small urban plaza associated with an eight-story offi ce building located at the most visible portions of the Springfi eld interchange.

The exercise of this project was to envision ways to connect the plaza, entrance sequence/drop-off and building through the use of materials and forms. The plaza itself was located overtop an existing subsurface storm water management facility, which aside from some physical constraints, offered the opportunity to incorporate a water feature utilizing the storm water run-off from the building to educate the user of the park on the benefi ts of on-site storm water treatment and management.

RIDGETOP ROADFEASIBILITY + DENSITY STUDIESFairfax County, VA

Project Manager responsible for producing a series of feasibility and density studies for the Ridgetop property in Fairfax County. The studies focused on applying the client’s program and unit type to the site while balancing the natural, physical, and regulatory constraints of the site. A considerable amount of research was involved to understand county zoning ordinances with respect to allowable density, parking requirements, maximum building heights, setbacks, and buffer requirements.

STEPHENSON VILLAGE MASTER PLAN STUDIESFrederick County, VA

Project Manager responsible for producing a series of master plan studies used as the basis of an offering package on the property. Critical to this effort was an understanding of the site constraints, as well as the ability to visualize the property as a vibrant master planned community, featuring market rate and active adult residential and commercial amenities, connected through a comprehensive road network and greenway system. The natural topography and watersheds of the site offered the ability to design and phase the property into several smaller neighborhoods, each with a distinct mix of residential products including both front and rear loaded single-family detached homes, single-family attached homes, and multi-family buildings.
