JOHN WILLIAM CARMAN (Retired Firefighter – Creston Fire Rescue) February 9,1950 to March 7, 2010 John was a member of Westminster Fire Department, Ontario for 11 years previous to joining Creston Fire Rescue in 1992 under Chief Reg Longhurst. John completed many courses some of which were Incident Safety Officer, Driver Instructor, Incident Command, BC Firefighter Level 2 and Level 3 First Responder. John was a member in good standing upon his retirement from the department in 2008. In 2002, John assisted in the rescue of two residents in a burning house and received the Office of the Fire Commissioner’s Commendation for Outstanding Contribution to Fire and Life Safety. Later in 2002, John received the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal for 20 years of fire service. John had always been a keen firefighter and gave many hours of volunteer work to the department and the community. He was a person who gave of self to anyone, especially his fellow firefighters and the Fire Department. John enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fixing vehicles, orchard work and restoring/fixing the 1946 Chev antique fire truck. His wife Sue, son Paul and daughter, Laura, survive John. Laura is a current member of Creston Fire Rescue and Paul was a former member, prior to his moving from the area.
