The Chief Director of the National Liquor Authority at the DTI, Prea Ramdhuny said the operation was meant to enforce compliance with the National Liquor Act, and to also address the increasing number of underage drinking, non-adherence to the licence conditions, trading hours and enforce compliance by liquor traders and distributors. “Most outlets that were given compliance notices and fines failed to adhere to the stipulated conditions of their licences and to produce relevant documents as prescribed by law,” said Ramdhuny. Ramdhuny added that licence holders need to be constantly educated on the Liquor Act in order to comply and avoid irresponsible trading. The Operational Commander of the Tzaneen SAPS Cluster, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said alcohol is still one of the crime generators in the country. He said in most cases it leads to other crimes such as murder, rape, assault, robberies and anarchy. “These raids assist us in visiting the hot spots that we normally get complaints from and where most of these crimes are taking place. In most cases kids are exposed to this kind of behaviour as they observe and experience the unruly behaviour in their communities,” said Ngoepe. The Director for Compliance at the Limpopo Liquor Board, Dion Palser said he welcomed the raids in different parts of the province as they will make their work easy in identifying the problematic areas and outlets as pointed out by the police. Palser said the board wants liquor traders to comply, trade responsibly and avoid a situation where their licences are revoked. Common contraventions were hotels and restaurants operating as taverns, patrons drinking outside the liquor premises, failure to display original licence, effecting structural alterations without prior approval of the board, trading beyond stipulated trading hours, selling take away while in possession of an on-consumption licence, and selling liquor to minors.

Crime reports for the week

POLICE in Maake are still looking for the family of an unknown man who was brutally killed by a group of residents at Pharare village.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said this is the third incident this year where community members took the law into their own hands by killing the suspected criminals in the same policing area of Maake which is condemned by the police with the strongest words it deserve.

It is alleged that the deceased was cornered by a group of community members after they accused him of being involved in a series of house breaking incidents in that

area for sometimes.Ngoepe said upon arresting him last Friday at about

22:00, they started assaulting him with various objects until he died. "They tied him on both hands and legs and his body was then taken away and dumped in the bushes outside that village and later found by a passer-by with multiple open wounds throughout the body," Ngoepe said. He added that the suspects are still unknown at this stage and there is no arrest. "Police investigations are still continuing. Anyone who can assist in the identifi cation of the deceased may go to Maake Police Station anytime," concluded Ngoepe.

Volgens Van Zyl verval 'n eienaar se bevoegdheid sertifi kaat eers wanneer sy of haar laaste vuurwapenlisensie verval.

opleiding oor moet doen.Inwoners is welkom om direk met Louis

van Zyl van PFTC in verbinding te tree by [email protected] as hulle nog meer vrae oor hul wapenlisensies het.

CRM: Eskom Mopani Zone Customer Rela ons Manager Thomas Ceko, Opera on khanyisa agent Lazarus Makinda, home owner Nancy Lebea and Opera on Khanyisa project manager Madelline Kadzinga.

POWER utility, Eskom urges the communities to play an active role in the fi ght against electricity theft.

Speaking during an electricity theft initiative “Operation Khanyisa Customer Compliance Audits” at Ga Kgapane last Thursday, Eskom Mopani Zone Customer Relations Manager, Thomas Ceko said members of the community can play a crucial role by ensuring that they are legal, safe and effi cient power users, and by reporting electricity thieves.

Ceko said electricity theft is a serious crime and poses a major threat to South Africa’s power supply and the country’s economy.

“It contributes to constant power outages and load shedding and can also lead to businesses closing down and jobs being lost,” said Ceko.

He said in a bid to promote the legal, safe and effi cient use of electricity, Eskom is rolling out a national campaign in partnership with with Proudly SA, Crime Line, Business Unity South Africa, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and several other partners, with the support of the South African Government.

He said Operation Khanyisa encourages more South Africans in all spheres of society to report the perpetrators of electricity theft who not only rob the country of billions of Rands every year, but also cause the loss of

lives. He further urged members of the public to

report electricity theft anonymously to Crime Line by sending a detailed SMS to 32211 (R1/SMS).

“By helping to prevent electricity theft, those who take a stand against this crime play a crucial role in growing South Africa’s economy, creating jobs and ensuring a brighter future for all,” he said.

He warned that those who are tampering with electricity meter box could get a fi ne of up to R6 000. Their electricity will also be disconnected and they will have to pay a reconnection fee.

He added that as part of Operation Kganyisa, Eskom has employed young people as agents. They visits households educating the community about the safe use of electricity and warning them about the consequences of electricity theft.

Operation Khanyisa project manager, Madelline Kadzinga said forms of electricity theft include: Illegal connections, illegal electrifi cation schemes, meter tampering and bypassing, the buying and selling of illegal prepaid vouchers.

More information about Operation Khanyisa is available at www.operationkhanyisa.co.za, www.powernews.co.za and the Operation Khanyisa Facebook page at Ops Khanyisa.

Dankie Sasol!

R10 my grootste beloningIn-my-noppies van Tzaneen, skryf:

Erger nog, het ek my beursie tuis vergeet. Dankie tog ek het 'n los R10 vir noodgevalle onder my sitplek gehou. Ek trek in by die vulstasie en vra verleë een van die petroljoggies wat my altyd help om net R10

se petrol in te gooi. Die man het breed geglimlag en my tenk

oopgesluit.

Selfs ‘n R10 sal werk.

go out of their normal business practices to contribute towards keeping our rhinos alive.” “SANParks is forever indebted to the many South Africans who specifi cally bought the Big Five Lasher Tools which contributed funds to the fi ght against poaching.” said Jooste.

“It is indeed gratifying that Corporate South Africa continues to believe in the fi ght against illicit wildlife crime, this support from Lasher comes directly after a recent Gallet Group donation of R359 100 to the SANParks anti-poaching unit,” concludes, Jooste.

COMMUNITYLETABA HERALD Friday February 26, 2016 7

There are still some good folks left in SAA few weeks ago the Herald asked our readers to send us their good news stories and to our surprise the fi rst of these stories travelled well over a thousand kilometres to reach our offi ces.

One day during the week before Valentines Day, Sharday Swanepoel (an architect and stay at home mom) and her one year old daughter Anna, took her husband Matt (a video editor) to work early in the morning. As was their habit, mother and daughter went directly to the beach for some play time. The two of them love playing around the rock pools looking for starfi sh and on the soft sand of Clifton's famous fourth beach where Anna won't get hurt if she falls. While they were exploring a rock pool, Sharday noticed something out of place and after further investigation found a GoPro camera under some seaweed. Most stories like this will end up with claims of fi nder's keepers, but not this time.

Swanepoel decided to fi nd the owner of the GoPro. The easiest way to do that was by putting an image contained by the GoPro out on social media. As part of a parenthood experiment, both Matt and Sharday

had been off Facebook for the past year. They contacted Jesin Matthews, a colleague of Matt's at the Salt River based Priest Post Production Company and asked him to share a picture on his Facebook profi le.

It took less than a week for the rightful owner to make contact. By that time, their Facebook post had received hundreds of likes and had been shared by as many people. The owner of the GoPro, Jean Cilliers was out of Cape Town on a business trip when he received word that his camera had been found. He arrived back to the Mothercity on Friday evening and rushed to the Swanepoel house to get his camera.

Sharday Swanepoel was awarded with a bunch of fl owers for her honesty, but the real reward lies in the story she will one day be able to tell her daughter Anna. "Things change when you have kids. I just wanted to do what I would love to see my child do in a situation like this," Sharday Swanepoel told the Herald.

The Herald was unable to reach Cilliers for comment at the time of going to print.

AS part of Rotary Haenertsburg's commitment to Preserve Planet Earth projects in the area, the Haenertsburg Village International Arboretum was identifi ed as a worthy project to adopt and nurture.

At a small ceremony was held on Saturday, February 13 to launch Rotary's involvement with the Arboretum, which was the brainchild of local resident Mike Gardner; a plaque was erected in his honour : "The Mike Gardner Arboretum".

The fi rst trees were planted in 1993 in a

layout that loosely represented the 5 rings of the Olympic symbol with trees from the fi ve continents.

In his address at the ceremony Mike thanked Rotary and current President Maria da Silva, for recognizing the importance of trees and the special area that is a part of the Village to be enjoyed and be of educational value to all residents and visitors alike.

The trees have identifi cation tags and special trees have been singled out for more comprehensive information boards.

ARBORETUM: The Mike Gardner Arboretum ‘Market Square’ in the centre of the Village of Haenertsburg. The Community Centre and Library buildings can be seen within this square. The Long Tom Monument is in the cluster of trees bo om right, and on the le border, the outlines of two Labyrinths can be seen. The Plaque has been erected at the corner, top right.

Reminder to all cyclists and motoristsMarianco Snyman - [email protected]

TZANEEN'S Cycling Club chairperson, Hendri Schoonraad, would like to remind community members of the safety of all road users including the cyclists.

This, after two cyclists were killed in Kwazulu-Natal earlier in this month. They were hit by a car while driving on the M4 freeway.

Schoonraad says the majority of Tzaneen's motorists are thoughtful towards the cyclists and vice versa but there were a few exceptions where cyclists had narrow escapes.

The Tzaneen cycling club has about 120 members and is fast growing and it's not the only club in Tzaneen, never mind the independent cyclists.

Basically, it is a popular sport in the community. Then again, Schoonraad said that 5 years ago about 90% of the cyclists were road bike users where as today about 80% of the community's cyclists are mountain biking.

He added that even though most people are on mountain bikes, there are times that cyclists need to use the road.

Cyclists have just as much right to be on the roads as the motorists do.

It is illegal for cyclists to use a freeway but the R36 is a dual carriage way, it is not a freeway and cyclists therefore have the same rights as motorists.

Another important rule, is that persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single fi le, except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles should not overtake another vehicle at the same time.

YOUNG BARCAS: Nkowankowa Barcelona FC’s li le boys before a soccer game.

Local soccer club a forceto be reckoned withIT is true what they say about dynamite coming in small packages.

A local young man, Peace Khosa from Nkowankowa township can attest to this. Khosa started a soccer club at age 14 alone with only two divisions, his club is known as Nkowankowa Barcelona FC and currently has four divisions, which is the under 12/U14/U17 and the senior team. Khosa at age 15 lost his only parent, his mother and he had to become an instant parent to his brother and also take care of the team with no job as he was still a student himself.

He said his mother's passing taught him to persevere and to keep on believing in his dream.

In the beginning he faced fi nancial challenges, especially with buying the soccer boots and kit for his players. " I faced a lot of challenges with transport to the games and my players had to pay for their own kit, boots and for the transport, eventually I got help from local businessmen, who helped where they could," he said. In 2007 his under 17 team started playing in the Local Football Association (LFA), from then they played in the Castle league for three seasons and their fortunes changed last year when Nkowankowa Barca became Limpopo champions in the league and advanced to the ABC Motsepe league also known as Vodacom league and it is currently in position 7.

Khosa has produced a lot of soccer stars from his neighbourhood.

Most of his players went to play in the

country's best soccer academies: Tlangelani Shipalana played for Orlando Pirates Academy, one of his player Papi Lemoa now plays in France, Kulani Mhelembe, Pretty Khumalo and Nyiko Nkwinika are currently with Wits soccer academy, Fumani Ntlemo is with Stars of Africa at Farouk Khan's academy. His assistant coach is former soccer star, Themba Khosa who use to play for Nkowankowa Barcelona FC before he suffered from an injury which forced him to quit soccer.

Khosa appreciates the efforts of his boys and the dedication they are putting even when it is diffi cult, he said his dream and wish for his boys is that they may succeed professionally in

the big leagues and can be able to support their families through soccer.

He currently has no help fi nancially and he depends on the prize money he received when his team won the league. Khosa said he uses the money to transport the team to games."I am unable to pay my boys for their efforts which is diffi cult to most of the players as most of them are unemployed," he said. He urges local business people to support his team with soccer boots, kit, camp, transport and in any way they can help. For more information contact Khosa on 083 477 9018.
