Joint Preserving and Minimally Invasive Surgery of the HipThe University of Ottawa is proud to offer the Eleventh Symposium on Joint Preservingand Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Hip to be held June 4-6, 2015 in Ottawa, Canada.We’ve developed a 2 ½ day symposium dedicated to a scientific and practice orienteddiscussion of current topics and controversies in treating the young adult with hip pain.Topics discussed will be Hip Arthroscopy, Femoro Acetabular Impingement (FAI) / Dysplasia;Hip Resurfacing, less invasive hip replacement surgery as well as expert panels to discusscontroversies of metal on metal bearings, dual mobility and large ceramic heads. A newfeature to our program is 2 hands on skills laboratories for hip arthroscopy, osteotomy andless invasive total hip replacements.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES 2015This Eleventh Symposium on Joint Preserving and Minimally Surgery of the Hip representsan advanced level course on techniques for hip arthroscopy as well as in-depth discussionin diagnosis and management of pre-arthritic hip deformities. These topics are combinedwith discussions on the latest advancement in total hip arthroplasty in both surgicaltechniques, implant design and rehabilitation protocols make it a comprehensive course.
A. Explain Differential Diagnosis and essential imaging of the painful pre-arthritic hip
B. Discuss current indications and results of osteotomies about the hip C. Formulate a treatment algorithm for labral tearsD. Understand the principles of hip arthroscopyE. Explain techniques of labral repair as well as capsular managementF. Explain indications for new surgical approaches as well as their impact on
rapid recovery programsG. Explain investigation of the painful metal on metal total hipH. Recognize the clinical indications for various implant designs for both
primary and revision hip surgery.
ACCREDITATIONThis program meets the accreditation criteria as defined by the Maintenance of Certificationprogram of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been accreditedby the University of Ottawa, Office of Continuing Professional Development for up to 11.25Mainpro-M1 credits and up to 7 hours of Section 3 (simulation) hours.
Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canadaand the American Medical Association, physicians may convert Royal College MOC creditsto AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
