Eleventh Symposium on Joint Preserving and Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Hip The University of Ottawa is proud to offer the Eleventh Symposium on Joint Preserving and Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Hip to be held June 4-6, 2015 in Ottawa, Canada. We’ve developed a 2 ½ day symposium dedicated to a scientific and practice oriented discussion of current topics and controversies in treating the young adult with hip pain. Topics discussed will be Hip Arthroscopy, Femoro Acetabular Impingement (FAI) / Dysplasia; Hip Resurfacing, less invasive hip replacement surgery as well as expert panels to discuss controversies of metal on metal bearings, dual mobility and large ceramic heads. A new feature to our program is 2 hands on skills laboratories for hip arthroscopy, osteotomy and less invasive total hip replacements. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 2015 This Eleventh Symposium on Joint Preserving and Minimally Surgery of the Hip represents an advanced level course on techniques for hip arthroscopy as well as in-depth discussion in diagnosis and management of pre-arthritic hip deformities. These topics are combined with discussions on the latest advancement in total hip arthroplasty in both surgical techniques, implant design and rehabilitation protocols make it a comprehensive course. A. Explain Differential Diagnosis and essential imaging of the painful pre-arthritic hip B. Discuss current indications and results of osteotomies about the hip C. Formulate a treatment algorithm for labral tears D. Understand the principles of hip arthroscopy E. Explain techniques of labral repair as well as capsular management F. Explain indications for new surgical approaches as well as their impact on rapid recovery programs G. Explain investigation of the painful metal on metal total hip H. Recognize the clinical indications for various implant designs for both primary and revision hip surgery. ACCREDITATION This program meets the accreditation criteria as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been accredited by the University of Ottawa, Office of Continuing Professional Development for up to 11.25 Mainpro-M1 credits and up to 7 hours of Section 3 (simulation) hours.
