Joint/Dual Engineering Degree Programs with The City College of New York’s
Grove School of Engineering (GSOE) of CUNY
Program Overview
Hostos Community College offers Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees in Civil, Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. These programs are jointly registered, dual admission programs with the existing Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degrees at The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering (GSOE) of CUNY. The programs have been designed to meet the licensure guidelines of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and will provide Hostos students with the same curriculum as the first two years of the licensure qualifying program required at The City College of New York (CCNY). Upon successful completion of the lower division at Hostos, students will have a seamless transition to the upper division of the baccalaureate program at CCNY. The students will spend two more years at CCNY’s GSOE toward completing a BE.

1. New freshmen engineering students are no longer required to take NSS 10000: New Freshman Seminar (0 cr.).
2. “C” Passing Grade Requirement: Courses in shaded area ( ) require a minimum passing grade of “C”.
3. CUNY CPE, ACT & SKAT Requirements: Students must pass the CUNY/ACT in Reading and Writing and CUNY Mathematics Skills Assessment Test
(SKAT) before completing 61 credits. Students must pass the CUNY Proficiency Examination (CPE) before graduation.
4. General Education / Liberal Arts Requirements:
CE students must take six approved courses (18 credits) of which at least two (6 credits) must be at the 20000 level or higher. The six courses must satisfy at
least three of the four approved general education clusters.
Only courses in these four clusters are eligible: Professional and Ethical Responsibilities Cluster (Outcome f), Communication Cluster (outcome g),
Global and Societal Context Cluster (outcome h), and Contemporary Issues Cluster (Outcome j). A list of approved courses is posted on the School of
Engineering web site at http://www.ccny.cuny.edu/engineering/genreq.html and can be viewed at the Office of Undergraduate Affairs (ST-209) or the Office of
Student Programs (ST-2M). This list is subject to periodic review and updates.
5. Other Graduation Requirements: Apply for graduation during registration for the last semester. Minimum GPA of 2.00. Minimum QPA of zero. Pass CUNY
Proficiency Exam (CPE). Residency Requirement: 33 credits of 30000-level or higher Civil Engineering courses.
6. New Transfer Students: FIQWS 10026 combines material from the courses Engl 11000 (3 cr.) and Engr 10100 (1 cr.). Students with credit for either of
these, or Math 20200, should not take FIQWS 10026. Thus, students with credit for Engr 10100 should take English 11000 instead. Students with credit for
Math 20200, but not Engr 10100, should take English 11000 and a 1-credit design project course CE 51000 (Independent Study Course); they should not take
Engr 10100 or FIQWS 10026.
7. Program Changes: Substitution of other courses for required courses must be approved by the Chair of the Civil Engineering Department (ST-119), and the
Associate Dean of the Office of Undergraduate Affairs (ST-209).
8. Note, that the latest version of the program curriculum sheet supersedes the curriculum reported in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

Dual Degree Program
Program Overview:
Hostos Community College offers Associate in Science (AS) degrees in Civil, Chemical, Electrical and MechanicalEngineering. These programs are jointly registered, dual admission programs with the existing Bachelor ofEngineering (BE) degrees at The City College of New York. The programs have been designed to meet the licensureguidelines of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and will provide Hostos students withthe same curriculum as the first two years of the licensure qualifying program required at CCNY. Upon successfulcompletion of the lower division at Hostos, students will have a seamless transition to the upper division of thebaccalaureate program at The City College of New York.
