Ms. Tully’s Message… This month Ms. Tully’s class is going to learn about Remembrance Day. The day where we remember our soldiers who went and fought for our country. Ms. Tully’s class with be singing “Little Poppy”. She’s also planning on teaching her student’s about community helpers. She is planning on taking the Kinder-garten students on a field trip around the community to show them the jobs people do around the local community.

In the Grade three/four class for social studies they are doing an “I am Canadian” collage – project. They are also starting a “Canadian of the week” where a student researches and presents a “Canadian” Person. They are also starting to study Canadian rules, rights and responsibilities as Canadian citizens.

For science they have started to plant bean seeds and will be charting their growth. For ELA they will be presenting their first monthly home reading pro-jects. In math they are starting to study patterns, number concepts and mental mat strategies. And for art they are doing Halloween crafts.

Inside Mrs. Laberge’s Classroom Ms. Laberge and her Grade 1/2 class have been having a wonderful time during this super exciting month of October, the month of ghosts, pumpkins, and Candy! The kids have been enjoying their classes, their teacher, and all the time they spend together learning their letters, colors, and numbers.

Last month the Grade 1/2 class did experiments with pumpkins, which involved weighing them, measuring them, and seeing if they could float. The class has been learning a lot about math and practicing their numbers and showing them in many different ways, such as words, objects, drawings, and signs. For November Ms. Laberge and her class will be learning about the 5 senses, sight, hearing, touch, smell, and

taste.

There were four people running in the Divisional cross country event from Walter Whyte School. It was very windy, cold, and rainy at this year’s meet, and the students that weren’t run-ning helped marshal and keep the competitors safe.

This past month, the Grade 4/5 class attended Orff Day (named after a musician…ask Mr. Col-lins) at Happy Thought School. They had lots of fun, playing different instruments, including recorders, boom whackers, African drums, and singing, their favourite station was Recess/play time on Happy Thought School’s cool play structure.

They performed drumming for the presentation at the end. They also made a ‘thunderstorm’ with their drums! Thank you to Mr. Collins for taking the class along for the day.

Last week our class visited the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR). We got to see the building, we learned about people and history, and played an interactive video game using our shadows! Once again this trip was very fun.

What are your hobbies/what do you do in your free time? Mrs. Polischcuk said she really enjoys kickboxing and horseback riding and her

favorite sport to play is soccer, She enjoys playing left field and forward.

What made you think to become a secretary in our school? Recently Mrs. Polischuck had been working as a receptionist. She also worked as

an E.A and she is just combining the two and decided to become a secretary at our welcoming school.

How do you like working at this school and does it bring back memories?

Mrs. Polischuck loves working at our school because each day is very differ-ent and it brings back so many memories. One of her memories is when she used to be a student here at Walter Whyte School, and every morning when she comes to work she remembers getting off the bus and heading to her locker.

As part of our school Emergency Preparedness Plan, we are required to ask all visitors to report to the office when they visit our school. If you are bringing lunches or gym clothing etc. to a child please come to the office and we will be happy to bring it to them or have your child come to the office to see you. This will also help us with fewer interruptions to the classroom learning.
