Jonathan Dayton High School Spanish 2 Summer Assignment 2016-2017 ~ Dear Incoming Spanish 2 Student, This summer you are REQUIRED to complete this packet in order to prepare for Spanish 2 in the fall. The purpose of the packet is to continue to develop your Spanish skills during the summer months through exposure to the language and by reinforcing skills developed throughout Spanish 1. In Spanish 2, there will be a stronger emphasis on speaking than there was in Spanish 1 and summer practice with the language is essential. This packet will be collected and graded on the FIRST day of class in the fall. It will be worth a TEST GRADE of 50 points. You will LOSE 5 POINTS for every day that it is not turned in. It is expected that you are familiar with ALL of these topics upon entering Spanish 2—minimal time will be spent reviewing concepts from Spanish 1 and we will begin with new material promptly at the start of the school year. You may collaborate and work with peers on this packet; however, everyone must complete his or her own individual packet and submit it for a grade. You are NOT permitted to copy one another. If cheating is suspected, all students involved will receive a zero on the assignment. All information that you need to successfully complete the assignment can be found in the packet. The World Language Department at Jonathan Dayton High School wishes you an enjoyable, restful summer and we look forward to seeing you in the fall in Spanish 2. ¡Hasta septiembre! Parte 21: Escritura

You are an animator for a new television show on the CARTOON NETWORK. The

trouble is that the creative team does not know what the main character of this new series

will be like. The whole team has drawn a blank and cannot develop this new character. So,

you, being the expert that you are in animated television, have been called upon to design

the character. In addition to the character’s physical design you will also develop the

character’s personality traits, likes/dislikes, etc.

Your task: Write a brief composition in which you develop your new character. Describe,

in as much detail as possible, what your cartoon character looks like. Then, describe its

personality and discuss its likes/dislikes—ALL IN SPANISH! After reading the

composition, the creative team should have an excellent idea of the character that will be the

“star” of their new television show.

Then, draw a picture – can be hand drawn – of your character. The image should closely

match the description in your compositon.

You may use a Spanish-English dictionary OR www.wordreference.com to assist you in the

writing process, but anyone who turns work in that is “translated” from an online

translator will receive a ZERO for a final grade. I would rather you make mistakes than to

use a translator. This is considered plagarism and will be treated as such.

You will start your composition by saying:

Mi dibujo animado se llama…

(My animated character’s name is…) ANIMATED CHARACTER: DIBUJO ANIMADO

Please TYPE your composition. Hand written work is NOT permitted. It will be collected

on the first day of school along with your packet and will serve as the basis for your 1st

marking period writing task and in-class presentation.

The heading for your composition should be CENTERED at the TOP of the page and

should appear as follows:

Your Name

Español 2

Escritura 1, MP 1: El dibujo animado
