Visit the ISI Web of Knowledge, Journal Citation Reports (JCR) website:

Note: that his website can only be accessed on campus (with subscription to JCR).

Step 2

Select a JCR edition and year:

JCR Science Edition - Year 2011

(Note: ISI impact factor for year 2011 is obtained by taking citation index from 2010 to 2012.

Therefore we can only have IF for 2011 in 2013, IF for 2012 in 2014)

Select an option:

View a group of journals

Search for a specific journal

View all journals

Step 3

Search for a specific journal and click Submit

Type the name of the journal. Eg. Full journal title: BMC Genomics and click Search

Step 4

You will find the JCR data with information of total cites, impact factors etc.

Step 5

Click on BMG Genomics (blue fonds)

Step 6

Click on Journal Ranking (in Journal Information part)

There you will find Quartile of journal in categories (Quartile = Tier)

BMC Genomics is tier one journal in both Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology and Genetics &

Heredity categories.
