Did you know…?Minnesota State Law allows for religious education for public school students; this religious instruction is commonlycalled “Release Time.”
Over the years (generations!), thousands of local studentshave enjoyed Release Time! A long-held tradition!
Release Time has encouraged community involvement, aswell as instilling values, faith and character into your youngpeople.
However!Over the years, schools are shortening Release Time - mostrecently, International Falls school eliminated another 4weeks.
To its credit, Littlefork school supports RT all the way to the end ofApril and provides bus transportation!
For the first time, students who attend Release Time in the Falls now miss class instruction, essentially being penalized for participation.
Many (including some new teachers) do not know our community’s long-held tradition and its legal provisionwithin MN Law.
Take ActionPlease communicate your support for the restoration of theRelease Time schedule!
Please communicate your support for the traditional dailyschedule with no loss of instruction time for RT students!
Thank you! Area pastors,

DEAR ABBY: My 10-year-oldson has a school friend,"Jeremy," who seems like asweet, smart kid. I have seenJeremy's dad interact with himboth in and out of school. Theman talks down to him andspeaks harshly. This sweet boyappears to be verbally beatendown, and it makes my heartache.
What can I do? I realize Idon't know what's going on intheir home. There could beother factors causing Jeremy'sfather to act this way. But everychild deserves love andencouragement. Any adviceyou can give would be appre-ciated. — ADVOCATE FORKINDNESS IN KENTUCKY
DEAR ADVOCATE: MakeJeremy welcome in your homeas often as you can, praise himwhen the opportunity arisesand give him a willing ear if heneeds to talk. Whatever "fac-tors" are causing his father totreat him this way, they are noexcuse for verbal abuse. Yourkindness to that boy won't fixhis problems at home, but itWILL be remembered all thedays of his life. Your hospitalitymay be the only exposureJeremy has to a normal, func-tional family.
DEAR ABBY: I got into afight with my best friend. I'm12, and she's 13. We couldhave solved our own prob-lems, but she got her parentsinvolved. They started sayingstuff on Facebook about meand my parents. I forgave her,but I don't want to forgive herparents. Abby, what would you
do? — CAN'T FORGIVE
DEAR CAN'T FORGIVE:Your friend's parents appearto be immature and overlyinvolved in their daughter'slife. Most tweenage tiffs areresolved by the individualshaving the argument. Whather parents did was wrong.
If they haven't posted anapology on Facebook, theyshould. And if they don't, myadvice is to keep your distancefrom ALL of them, becauseregardless of whether youhave forgiven your friend, thiscould happen again.
DEAR ABBY: A group ofabout a dozen friends areplanning a Caribbean cruise. My boyfriend, "Isaac," and Ihave been invited to jointhem. I love to travel. I don'tget to go on trips very oftenand have never been on acruise or to the Caribbean, soI'm excited.
Isaac, on the other hand, doesn't care much for traveland doesn't enjoy the ocean. He also doesn't like my friendor her husband. They are theones who are coordinating thetrip and who invited us.
Isaac rarely socializes with
anyone who isn't in his circle
of friends. He doesn't want to
go and thinks I shouldn't go,
either. Isn't it unfair of him to
tell me I can't go? Would it be
wrong of me to go without
him? He promises that if I
don't go, the two of us will go
together next year. (I don't
believe him.) — LAND-
LOCKED IN ARIZONA
DEAR LANDLOCKED: If
you don't believe Isaac when
he tells you he'll do some-
thing, you must have good
reason for it.
Yes, it is unfair of him to tell
you that you can't take the
cruise with your friends. It is
also controlling. If you think
you would have a good time
without him, you should go.
It's not like you'll be leaving for
a month. He can manage
without you for a few days.
Instead of trying to discourage
you, he should wish you "bon
voyage" — but the odds for
that aren't high, so don't
expect it.

BIKE RACK WON’T DECREASE RESALE VALUE
BY TOM AND RAY MAGLIOZZI
Dear Tom and Ray:I have a 2007 Subaru Outback. It’s the
perfect vehicle for driving over hills andcurves during winter storms, haulinggarden supplies and toting around Theo,my 75-pound Goldendoodle. Here’s mydilemma: I enjoy riding my bike with myfriends. I am not tall enough to use a bikerack that mounts on top of the car, noram I coordinated enough to stand on aladder while hoisting my bike up thathigh. We have a bike rack that we usedon our old Ford Explorer (now deceased)that I could manage well. It sat on therear trailer hitch and was easy for me touse. I want to have a rear hitch installedon the Subaru for my bike rack, but myhusband says it will decrease the valueof the car. My fate lies with your deci-sion. What should we do? — Anne
RAY: Go ahead and install the hitch,Anne.
TOM: Your husband is worried thatwhen you try to sell the car, potentialbuyers will see the hitch and assume youwere towing a trailer with the car, andthey’ll conclude that you put lots of extrawear and tear on the car that way andwill shy away.
RAY: But that’s a chance you’ll haveto take. After all, it’s YOUR car now, right? So you should use it to make yourlife easier. And neither the hitch itselfnor the bike rack will harm the car in anyway.
TOM: You could remove the hitch
when you’re ready to sell the car, butwhen a buyer gets a good mechanic toinspect the car, he’ll notice the bolt holesand know you had a hitch on there.
RAY: So I’d opt for absolute honesty.Just tell potential buyers that you nevertowed anything, you just used the hitchfor a bike rack. These bike racks arecommon enough now that it won’t sur-prise anybody.
TOM: Better yet, leave the bike rackon the car when you sell it, and offer it asan option.
RAY: And tell your husband he’s wor-rying about nothing. Cheer him up byreminding him that the vicious dog smellis going to be a much greater impedi-ment to selling this car than the hitchever will be.

merely annoy drivers. Find out what, andhow you can ease the pain, by orderingTom and Ray’s pamphlet “Ten Ways YouMay Be Ruining Your Car Without EvenKnowing It!” Send $4.75 (check ormoney order) to Ruin, P.O. Box 536475,Orlando, FL 32853-6475.
