DISSENTDISSENT
This project was a collaboration between interior design and apparel, merchandising, and design students. The fashion student assigned was Abby Beuse. The goal was to understand and articulate her brand into a uniquely shaped building in Rome. This project was featured in the Iowa State newspaper and was admitted into the 34th Art / Design Annual Gallery 2014.
Designed by Abby Beuse
Dissent Clothing
Dissent’s atmosphere rebels against common attitudes in main stream fashion boutiques. The space dees its physical constraints through illusion, lighting and repetition.

Dissent retail store creates for its customer an experience that is avangard and shocking. Materials are used in a way they were not originally designed for, creating an atmosphere that rebels against common attitudes in mainstream fashion. The space dees its physical constraints through illusion, lighting, and repetition. The oor plans are in tandem allowing for a uid ow through the spaces.

The objective in this high-end, Minnesota home was to design a spacious, luxurious residence for the Gustafson family which showcases their various art and sports memorabilia collections and supports and enhances their way of life. The design includes private areas for Elsa, Mrs. Gustafson's mother and her live-in attendant. Special attention to detail was given to the Gustafsons and their guests with maximum comfort and enjoment of their home, which features wetland views.

Working with real clients on Iowa State University campus was a wonderful experience. The employees in the Mackay office needed a solution to maximize their space and add new private and open plan work stations to their office. The objective was to create an environment that attracts and engages workers, fosters collaboration as well as supports necessary private work. Flexibility was key with this space’s furniture arrangements. The design was simplified to the essentials, featuring a clean and modern aesthetic.

Part-time Work StationsMinimize excess work surfaces in part-time stations creates more space. Reducing partitions in the center of the room allows for more light integration.
Full-time Work StationsSemi-enclosed work stations create privacy and reduce sound.
Healthcare
This project is a design of an addition to the Northcrest community. The scope includes an assisted living, healthcare, and memory care connected in one building. The challenge was to create appropriate spaces for each client while keeping the connection of the building and minimizing long walkways.

NEXT UNIVERSITY
Next University is a modern, private, liberal arts institution located in Norfolk, Virginia. Its small enrollment, less than 2,200 students, allows for an individualized approach to teaching. Their focus is to create future leaders through effective learning environments utilizing progressive teaching styles, effective spaces and technology. Students and faculty reflect the three core pillars associated with Next's brand identity: dedicated; innovative; transformative. These pillars equip the students to live out Next's mission, “The future is in their hands.”

Custom created brand logo and identity
The Next University building project will be a 10,865 square foot opportunity that will not only support the needs of the faculty and students, but will creatively reect the university’s identity. The space encourages modern teaching methods crucial to the diverse learning styles expected by the students. It also promotes physical and psychological well-being.
37
The space is light and fun, yet aesthetically mature as it utilizes a purposeful repetition of color and texture to showcase Next’s brand identity. Connectivity is shown through the translucent wall partitions. The natural element is prominently displayed through the rich, green, living wall at the entrance. Gray corru-gated metal pillars represent the strength of the core values and the intentional exibility of the educational process.A bouldering wall playfully conveys the innovative element oering hands on learning activities and wellness. The adaptable use of technology highlights the university’s transformative conviction.

ArtDrawing and sketching are an important part of my professional practice. I am continually challenging myself to communicate visually in new ways. I am currently most interested in computer painting, water color, and making logos.
