1-2. Establishment of JRECO Name: JAPAN Refrigerants Environment Conservation Organization(JRECO) Date : October 1 2011 Task: ・Promotion of refrigerant emissions reduction in maintenance and equipment disposal ・Training and qualifying of engineers for refrigerant recovery ・Development of refrigerant recovery equipment ・Certification of refrigerant reclamation facilities ・Equipment registration system of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
Back ground: Refrigerants Recycling Promotion and Technology Center, the predecessor of the current had been promoting refrigerant recovery and training engineers since its establishment in 1993.These days as refrigerant leaks have had a great effect on global warming, JAPAN Refrigerants Environment Conservation Organization was set up as an independent organization to enhance the activities against refrigerant leaks.

5-3 Refrigerant Recovery
Three major legislation for “the end of life of products”. These laws require the recovery of refrigerant from the EOL products, and ban the release. 1) Home appliances
2) Commercial A/Cs and Refrigeration equipment 3) MAC
Total recovered amount exceeded 6,000 Metric-tons/year. ( approx. 11 M Metric-tons CO2 eq. )
This figure of 6,000 Metric-tons/year means 20% of total consumption of 33,000 Metric-tons/year of Japan.
