JRBA Due Date for HOPE for Appalachia Boxes for Spring Distribution
Rev. Woody Moore will be serving as a Team Leader for the spring distribution and his team is responsible for 4 schools this year. Mt. Zion is sponsoring Page Elementary School. Woody is hopeful that JRBA can supply the boxes for one of the schools as well. Hope for Appalachia will be reaching out to several new schools this year so many additional boxes will be needed! Last year JRBA supplied 873 boxes, as well as many additional items and monetary contributions. We are hopeful that we can exceed that number of boxes in 2019 for this worthy cause!
A list of items to be included in each box has been sent to JRBA churches, along with the newsletters. Please check with your newsletter contact or your pastor if you need a copy of the 2019 list. It is very important to include ALL items requested in each box. Do not include bar soap, washcloths, food products, or toy guns. Body Wash should be packed in a Zip Loc bag. If you wish to send washcloths or feminine hygiene products, please package those items separately to be given to the school’s resource officer for private distribution.
Rev. Roger Woody, and his wife, Darlene, will also be going on the spring distribution. If you are interested in joining a Distribution Team, please contact Rev. Woody Moore as soon as possible. (804-382-7954) Your prayers and continued support for this mission effort are greatly appreciated.

MISSIONS COMMITTEE REPORT
January 2019
Our Association had a fine year of mission work throughout 2018. Now, let us commit to being on mission for Jesus even more fully in 2019.
I. RISE AGAINST HUNGER: Let us become very serious about setting aside money daily or weekly for this special mission for our churches to turn in very large Rise Against Hunger offerings by mid-May.
II. BLUE RIDGE FOOD MINISTRY: During the winter months many people struggle to obtain healthy food so let us pray about volunteering to be present at Crystal Cathedral of Dillwyn to help give out food to over 300 needy people each 2nd and 4th Friday at 9:30 AM.
III. HOPE BOXES FOR APPALACHIA: Please purchase one or more 6-quart oblong plastic containers and fill the boxes with the specified items on your Hope Box list for PK – Grade 2, Grades 3 – 5, or Grades 6 - 8 children. Turn your boxes in to your church by March 17, 2019. Boxes need to be at the JRBA Office by Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
IV. LOCAL MISSION ACTIONS: During the Christmas season many of our churches reached out to shut-ins and other people in need through Christmas caroling, food boxes, visits, and other ministries. Let us throughout the dark, rough months of January and February, keep reaching out in love to lonely and needy people of our area.
May God bless each of our churches in our mission work for Jesus.
In Christ’s Love,
Jimmy Dunn

PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR
Some of you may have read the Prayer for the New Year that has been circulating on email. It was written by Debbie McDaniel in 2016. The web address below will take you to the prayer, information about the author, etc. Almost as powerful as the prayer are the words she wrote preceding the prayer (in italics below).
The New Year can often bring a mixed bag of emotions and memories for many of us. Some may have just experienced the best year ever and look forward to an even greater one looming ahead. Others may have just trudged through one deep struggle after another. The fresh calendar year brings desperate hope for things to be better, with an ache for the still-fresh wounds to slowly begin their process of healing.
Whether you’ve just walked through the greatest year of your life, or are incredibly glad to see that one finally over, one truth still rings clear amidst it all. You are not alone. Not ever.
Our God is a “with us” God. On the heels of the celebration of the birth of our King, that reminder has the power to carry us right into a fresh, new start. He is Emmanuel, God with us. And though things and people around us shift and change, our God never changes.
