Not long after achieving its third milestone, SSIS has earned areputation in Batangas as a school that delivers quality Pre-Schooland Grade School education. Because of its excellent andtrailblazing programs, nurturing and competent teaching team, and its limited student-teacher ratio, the school earned its fourthmilestone with a nod of approval from the Department ofEducation with the granting of a Government Recognition for itsPre-Elementary and Elementary curricula in 2001—thus making SSIScomparable to the best educational institutions in Manila.

In that same year, SSIS earned another milestone with the earningof an accreditation from the Bureau of Immigration andDeportation granting the school the authority to accept foreignstudents. This milestone signaled the global aspirations that theschool shall take in the succeeding years.

Being the trailblazer that it has been known for, SSIS continued itsmetamorphosis in 2005 when it amended its name to StonyhurstInternational School after it was granted permission by the Securitiesand Exchange Commission upon the recommendation of theDepartment of Education. This sixth milestone has made SSIS thefirst and only school in the Batangas province to have internationalcharacter.

2. In the Miting de Avance on March 5, candidates are allowed to present their platforms or campaign propagandausing Powerpoint. The presentation is limited to a maximun of 10 minutes for a political party and a maximum fiveminutes for an independent candidate.

3. Giving of anything (promotional gifts such as candies, pens, buttons, pins, or bookmarks) is not allowed. This isto eliminate the connotation of vote-buying among our kids.

4. A candidate may wear his own button, an ID, or a name tag as his campaign material, but he/she is not allowedto distribute them to his/her supporters to wear.

SC OFFICERS INITIATE PERSONNEL APPRECIATION DAY

No. 31 A.Y. 2013-2014

The Student Council Officers, through the leadership of Cydea Faye Marie Ylagan prepared a surpriseproduction number for the non-teaching personnel on February 14, 2014.

The dance, confetti, tokens, and messages were part and parcel of the whole drama of giving thanks tothese people who ensure that the school operations go smoothly while the rest of us are confined inside the classroom.

Aside from the occasional businesses and requests that students may have with the office personnel andstaff, some of them rarely interact with the personnel as they are immersed in their daily tasks of completing schoolrequirements. However, this does not mean that the students are not aware of the contributions of the personneland staff to the SSIS community. The students recognize the importance of coherence, transparency, and solidarityin an institution, and they know that each of the personnel, no matter what type of work he/she has, regardless ofthe salary he/she receives, is an integral part of our organization. Thus, the Personnel Appreciation Day was a blastfor them all!

“Cultivate the habit of beinggrateful for every good thing thatcomes to you, and to give thankscontinuously. And because allthings have contributed to youradvancement, you should includeall things in your gratitude.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

How to Talk to Your Teen About Dating(Part 1 of 2)

When your teen begins to show an interest in dating, you’ll want to iron outhow you feel about it. Not that it will work out according to that plan, buta road map is always good to follow when facing uncharted territory.

1. Be clear when talking to your teen that while you’ll discuss dating withhim/her, that doesn’t mean you are giving your permission to go out ondates or begin dating someone.

2. Help your teen weigh the pros and cons of dating. Explain how datingcan take up money and/or time that is spent doing some other activity thathe/she enjoys. Try to show him/her that dating ‘just to date’ or ‘because his/her friends are dating’ is never a good choice.

3. Discuss the responsibility of dating with your teen. Dating involves anotherperson who your teen will need to treat with respect. Share your values andyour expectations that your teen develop good values too. Use this parentingcontract to help with your discussion.

4. Ask your teen what he/she thinks, feels or wants in the way of permissionswhen he/she begins dating. Use your active listening skills.
