Born on June 18, 1948. Enrolled as Advocate on August 27, 1971 . Practised on Civil, Criminal, Revenue, Constitutional, Taxation, Labour, Co-operative, Excise & Custom sides in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Indore.

Appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on December 15, 1994 and Permanent Judge on July 19, 1995 . On bifurcation of the state of M.P. into M.P. and Chhatisgarh, he was sent as the First Judge & Acting Chief Justice of Chhatisgarh. He worked in Chhatisgarh for the period between November 1, 2000 to October 31,2001. On his transfer to Bihar, he worked there as a Judge of the High Court of Patna from November 1,2001 to February 26, 2005. Joined as a Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on February 28, 2005. Transferred to High Court of Madhya Pradesh on September 17, 2007. Appointed as Acting Chief Justice of High court of M.P. from November 16, 2009 to December 19th, 2009. Born on 18th November, 1954. Joined the Bar in 1978. Practiced mainly in the Gauhati High Court. Appointed as Permanent Judge of Gauhati High Court on 28th February, 2001.

Amitava Roy

Born on 1.3.1953 at Dibrugarh. Belongs to a family of lawyers. His father Sri Anandi Bhushan Roy is a practising Senior Advocate. Iqbal Ahmed Ansari

Born on 29th October 1954, at Tezpur (Assam ). Did B.Sc. from Darrang College, Tezpur. Was a good debator and is awardee of the trophy for best literary competitor of his college. Did graduation in law from Tezpur Law College, where his father, a Bar-at-Law himself, was founder Principal. Handled both civil as well as criminal matters. Remained deeply involved with the activities of All Assam Lawyers' Association and many other socio-cultural and educational bodies. Was the President of Tezpur Lions' Club. Is a life member of Indian Institute of Public Administration. Joined Grade-I of Assam Judicial Service in April, 1991. Worked as District & Sessions Judge. Joined Gauhati High Court Registry in June, 1999. At the time of his elevation, he was Registrar General of Gauhati High Court and President of Assam Judicial Service Association. Underwent training on the subject of Gender and Law, in Warwick University in UK, on being nominated by National Judicial Academy. Worked as one of the trainers for Judicial Officers, in India, on the said subject. Has written many articles on various subjects involving legal and social problems. Has presented papers in various seminars and delivered lectures in many training Institutes.

Tinlianthang Vaiphei

Born on 01.03.1956. Passed B.A. in 1976 from Nowrosjee Wadia College, University of Poona. Obtained LLB Degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1979. Enrolled in the Bar Council of Assam on 22nd August 1980. Started law practice in the Courts of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Munsiff and Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate in the Churachandpur District of Manipur in the year 1980. Started appearance in the Court of District & Sessions Judge, Manipur in Criminal and Civil cases both in the Original and Civil sides in the year 1983 and also before Revenue Tribunal and Motor Accident Claim Tribunal, Manipur. Biplab Kumar Sharma

Born on February 1, 1954 at Guwahati, Assam. His father late Surendranath Sharma was a thinker, prolific writer and was known for his philanthropic activities and philosophic articulation. Shri Sharma obtained his B.Sc., M.A. and LLM. degrees from Gauhati University.

He joined the Bar in September, 1977 and practiced in the Gauhati High Court and its subordinate courts. He also practiced in the Guwahati Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal since its inception in 1985. Specialised in Service, Constitutional and Contractual matters, he was the Standing Counsel of the Indian Railways since 1987 both in the Gauhati High Court and Central Administrative Tribunal, Guwahati Bench. He conducted cases for State Bank of India (SBI) and Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (BRPL) as Special Counsel. He also conducted cases of Labour Department, Government of Assam as its Special Counsel. He was also engaged as Special Counsel for Revenue Department, Government of Assam and was a Standing Counsel of Director of Land Records, Government of Assam. Earlier he represented the Government of Assam in the Forest Department as its Special Counsel.

He was designated as Senior Advocate in June, 1999. He has been associated with the Gauhati Law Times, a monthly Law Journal , as its sole Adviser since 1995 and was also a visiting faculty in the Assam Administrative Staff College. Since 1984 he was involved in law teaching in the Department of Law, Gauhati University. Elevated as the Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 2.12.2003.

H. N. Sarma

Born on 1s of February 1949. Graduated in Science from M C College, Barpeta, and Graduated in Law from J B Law College, Guwahati. Was President of the Law College Student Union. Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on 2nd February, 1976. Attended the Chamber of Mr. K. M. Lahiri, Senior Advocate ( As he then was, later on retired as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court) while was a student in the Law College. Had practices in the original Civil, Criminal, Revenue, Labour and Service Courts/Tribunal and in the High Court in Constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Labour and Service matters. Was Government Advocate for Assam Government since 1979 for about fifteen(15) years intermittently, both in civil and criminal side. Appointed as Additional Senior Government Advocate, As sam in the year 1996 and continued in that position till July 1999. Thereafter also was engaged by Government of Assam as a Special Counsel to defend important tax and other matters. T. Nandakumar Singh

Born on 01.02.1954 in a lawer's family. Graduated in Science from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, in the year 1974 and obtained LL.B. Degree from Lucknow university in the year 1977.Enrolled as an Advocate in 1978 and started practice in the Gauhati High Court as well as Sub-ordinate Courts.Practices sucessfully in Civil, Criminal, Service and Constitutional matters in the Gauhati high Court and Supreme Court of India. Was one of the yongest Advocate, designated as "Senior Advocate", in the history of the Gauhati High Court. Was the Consel of Manipur University for a period of six years. Served as Legal Advisor of the Central Agricultural University, Imphal. Participated sucesfully in different Enquiry Commissions for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India and the Police Deptt., Govt. of Manipur. Was a Senior Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, New Delhi. Served as Advocate General of Manipur ( Cabinet Status) from 14.01.1998 to 27.03.2001. Elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 25.11.2004. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 27.02.2006.

Utpalendu Bikas Saha

Born on 25th August, 1954 in a middle class family of Udaipur, South Tripura. Did his schooling from K.B.Institution, Udaipur, passed B.A. from Bir Bikram Evening College, Agartala and completed MA (Journalism), LL.B., from Calcutta University. Enrolled as an Advocate on 6th June, 1978. Had practice specially Constitutional, Service, Administrative, Civil and Criminal matters in the Gauhati High Court at Agartala Bench, Subordinate Courts in Tripura as well as at Principal Seat at Guwahati. In the year 1983-84 elected, as, Assistant Secretary of Tripura Bar Association, Agartala and in the year 1986 and 1993 elected as Member of the Executive Committee of the said Bar Association. Since 2004, he was Secretary, High Court Bar Association, Agartala, Tripura, was the Joint Secretary of All India Lawyers Union. Associated with Ram Thakur Law College, Agartala and Tripura Govt. Law College, as Part-Time Lecturer. Held the Office of the Government Advocate, Tripura since 1993 till his elevation and also held office of the Public Prosecutor of Tripura, Gauhati High Court, Agartala Bench, in the year 1993 for 6(six) months and then resigned. Designated as Senior Advocate in the year 1999 and since then functioned as Senior Government Advocate. Delivered Lectures in number of Seminars on important subjects and topics of National Interest. Elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 12.10.2006. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 15.07.2008.

Ketulhou Meruno

Born on 11th March, 1951. Enrolled as an Advocate on 28th August, 1979. Practiced about 26 years in the Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court and other Sub-ordinate Courts in the North Eastern States. Held the post of President, Nagaland Bar Association for three consecutive terms of three years each. Served as Junior Govt. Advocate of Nagaland during 1980-1983. Also held the Office of the Central Government Standing Counsel since 1994 and thereafter appointed as Senior Central Government Standing Counsel in 1997 till elevation,

which is now re-designated as Assistant Solicitor General of India. Elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 12th October, 2006. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 15.07.2008.

Hrishikesh Roy

Born on 1st February, 1960. After passing out from Delhi Public School, New Delhi, he obtained his LL.B. Degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1982. First enrolled as an Advocate under the Bar Council of Delhi and eventually on shifting of practice to Guwahati, got the enrollment transferred to the Bar Council of Assam, etc. On 21.12.2004, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court. He was the Senior Government Advocate for the Arunachal Pradesh Government and was also appointed as the Standing Counsel of the Assam State Electricity Board in respect of the Gauhati High Court. He was also Standing Counsel of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in the High Court for a number of years. He was the founder secretary of the Assam State Unit of the Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi. As a member of the North Eastern Judicial Officers Training Institute (NEJOTI), he was also involved with training of Judicial Officers. As the elected Secretary of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association he has successfully conducted the year long Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Advocates Association. He was sworn in as an additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 12.10.2006. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 15.07.2008.

B. D. Agarwal

Born on 17th June, 1952 at village Chaparmukh, District Nagaon (Assam). Practiced in the Gauhati High Court since September, 1977 to April, 1991. Thereafter, joined the Judicial Service of Assam in the month of May, 1991 in the rank of Additional District Judge. On 1st of March, 1992, appointed as the principal District and Sessions Judge. Worked in the same capacity at different stations. During these 29 years of judicial career, he had the occasion to attend various training courses, which includes 6 weeks training at University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom on the subject Gender & Law. He has also attended many Seminars and work-shops and has also participated in different Training and Orientation courses as resource person on different subjects, like Gender & Law, Domestic Violence, Court Management, Human Rights and Child Rights etc. He has written many articles relating to criminal justice system and on other subjects, which have been published in journals like AIR, Criminal Law Journal, Bi-annual journal published by National Police Academy, Hyderabad etc. He has been appointed as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 12TH October, 2006. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 15.07.2008.

Mutum Binoy Kumar Singh

Born on 27th January, 1950. Enrolled as an Advocate on 20th September, 1977. Practiced for about 17 years before entering into service before Subordinate Courts in Manipur and High Court. Was Standing Counsel of the Food Corporation of India, Manipur Spinning

Hareswar Barua

Born on 01.11.1949. Passed HSLC Examination in the year 1965 from Hawajan High School, Dist - Sonitpur and graduated in Science from Darrang College, Tezpur in the year 1969. Did LL.B. from University Law College, Guwahati, in the year 1973. Enrolled as an Advocate of the Guwahati Lawyers Association in the year 1974 and thereafter became the member of North Lakhimpur Bar Association in the same year. Later, appointed as Assistant Public Prosecutor. Joined Assam Judicial Service on 23.05.1978. Held verious posts. Became Registrar General of the Gauhati High Court on 07.11.2005. Became the President of Assam Judicial Service Association in the year 2004 and has been continuing as such. Elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 04.07.2007. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 03.07.2009.

Ashok Potsangbam

Born on 21st April, 1949, in Imphal, Manipur. Obtained B. A. Degree from Calcutta University and LL.B. from Delhi University in the year 1974. Was the Secretary of the North East Unit of All India Bar Association, New Delhi. Held the Office of the Advocate General of the State of Manipur during the periods from 09-06-1995 to 16-12-1997, 02-04-2001 to 22-05-2001, 01-06-2001 to 11-03-2002 and from 10-12-2004 till his elevation as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 26-09-2007.

Pranay Kumar Musahary

Born on 31st May, 1951 at Alokjhar, Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar District, Assam. Did his B.A. (Hons) from Saint Anthony's College, Shillong in 1973. Obtained his M.A. and LL.B. Degrees from Gauhati University in 1975 and 1976, respectively. Enrolled himself with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh in 1977 and started practice as an Advocate in the Gauhati High Court since 1977. Practised mainly on Civil, Criminal,Constitutional, Revenue and Arbitration matters. He dealt with a large number of cases in TADA Court at Guwahati. Served as Standing Counsel of the Bodoland Autonomous Council from 19.11.1999 to 01.10.2001 and the Assam Plains Tribes Development Corporation Ltd. Served as Addl. Senior Govt. Advocate of Assam from 12.06.2001 to 13.09.2001. Thereafter he served as Senior Govt. Advocate and Public Prosecutor of the State of Arunachal Pradesh from 14.09.2001 to 18.02.2003 and also of the State of Assam from 19.02.2003 till his resignation on 24.09.2007. Worked as a member of the Assam State Law Commission till elevation. Ably represented before the Hon'ble Justice K. N. Saikia Commission of Inquiry as the Senior Counsel for the Govt. of Assam. in the Hon'ble Mr. Justice S. N. Phukan Commission of Inquiry ( Bhumka Gang Rape Case), Hon'ble Justice Manisena Inquiry Commission (Gohpur Riot) and Hon'ble Justice Haque Inquiry Commission (Kokrajhar Ethnic Clash). Elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 26.09.2007. He is the first person from the ethnic Bodo Community to get elevated to the Bench of the Gauhati High Court.

Arun Chandra Upadhyay

Born on 27th July, 1951. Belongs to a family of freedom fighter. Grandfather late Chabilal Upadhayay was a distinguished freedom fighter of Assam. Graduated in Science and obtained LL.B Degree from the University of Law College under the Gauhati University. Joined the Bar in 1976. Practiced mainly in the Gauhati High Court and the District Courts in Kamrup. Appointed in the Assam Judicial Service on 10.09.1980. Attended various training programmes, seminars and workshops as Judicial Officer and also participated as resource person in different training and orientation programmes such as Computerization in Judiciary, Court Management, etc. On promotion to Grade-I of Assam Judicial Service, appointed as Registrar (Inspection & Enquiry), thereafter as Registrar General of the Gauhati High Court and also as District & Sessions Judge in different Districts of Assam. He was holding the post of Legal Remembrancer and Secretary, Judicial Department, Government of Assam at the time of his elevation as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 28.12.2008.

Chitta Ranjan Sarma

Born on 1st of March, 1954, Graduated in Science and obtained LL.B Degree from the University of Law College under the Gauhati University. Enrolled as an Advocate in 1977 and started practice in the Gauhati High Court. Appointed as Munsiff in the Assam Judicial Service in 1980. Promoted and appointed as Grade I officer of the Assam Judicial Service in 2001. Served in various capabilities in the Assam Judicial Service and as Registrar General of the Gauhati High Court till the date of elevation to the Bench. Sworn in as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 28th December, 2008.
