    Montage

Descript ion: Create an inspirat ional montage using mult iple images,

masks, a f i l ter and appropriate typography using Adobe Photoshop.

    Programs: Adobe Photoshop

    Date: February 13, 2016

Course & Sect ion: Comm 130, Sect ion 3

    Instructor: Ben Pingel

Object ives: Show mastery of blending tools in Adobe Photoshop.

Process: I found my f irst image and set i t as the background.

I found my second image and used the lasso tool to sele ct the tree

wi th th e su n sh in in g th ro ug h th e br an ch es an d pl ac ed it on to p of th e

background layer and added a layer mask.

Using black paint , and a medium sized brush with 100% o pacity , I

c leaned away the edges o f the image select ion and then lowered my

opacity level and brush size to sof t ly blend the two images together. ( My

favori te part was blending the suns in the images together).

To hide the logo in the orig inal image, I duplicated the background layer

and moved the image to the r ight to cover i t up. I created a la yer mask

and blended the two together, get t ing r id of most of the second photo.

I then pulled colors from the sun in the image to use as my text color

and created a rectangle with a smart f i l ter for the text to rest on top o f .

Descript ion: Black and white f l ier promoting an upcoming leadership

    conference for graduat ing seniors

    Programs: Adobe InDesign

    Date: January 23, 2016

Course & Sect ion: Comm 130, Sect ion 3

    Instructor: Ben Pingel

Object ives: Learn how to apply design ski l ls such as al ignment, Gestal t ,

contrast , ef fect ive use of white space and appropriate typography with the

image, logo, and text being provided by the instructor.

Process: I began this project by making a var iety of sketches. After I had

the basic idea of what I wanted i t to look l ike, I began organizing the

elements in the Adobe InDesign program. I created repet i t io n through

the design by using the Color Theme Tool to keep the text bo x colors

in harmony with the colors in the photo (the focal point). I al igned the

outside edges of the text boxes with the outside borders of the page to

keep the design clean. I focused on having plenty of white space at the

bottom of the page to keep i t balanced and to provide contrast for the

    rest of the design.

    Brochure

Descript ion: Create a brochure for a company using at least four

images, one that ’s cut out and uses text wrap, one large one, 25 0

wo rd s of or ig in al bo dy co py an d an or ig in al lo go .

Programs: Photoshop, Il lustrator , and InDesign

    Date: March 26, 2016

Course & Sect ion: Comm 130, Sect ion 3

    Instructor: Ben Pingel

Object ives: Demonstrate abi l i ty to create a brouchure with proper

folds and clean images and text .

Process: I decided I wanted to create a brochure for a Yoga Studio

for mil lennials cal led “Sunrise Sessions.”

I spent a lot of t ime f iguring out how to get my opening f lap and

insert to create a s ingle image feel ing. Then I wanted to use my

inside as a place to communicate energy so I went with an orange

backround (also, to represent the sun).

I selected my images from the Internet , cut them, and placed them

    throughout the design.

I spent a lot of t ime f iguring out spacing fo r my text and photos.

Because the cut is done once i t ’ s pr inted, the image is what i t

or ignial ly looks l ike in InDesign (with the inclusion of labels).
