4.0 Experience in Management Of Academic Programmes 4.1 2010 – 2011: Acting Associate Dean, School of Medicine, on various occasions.
Responsibilities include coordination of module II admissions, examinations and
teaching in preclinical departments namely Human Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and
physiology.
4.2 2004 -Todate: Chairman of academic Department of Human Anatomy, School of
Medicine, College of Health Sciences. This is one of the largest teaching units in the
university. This position involves overall coordination of teaching and examination of
all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes where Human Anatomy is required.
They include MBChB, BSc Anatomy, B. Pharm, BDS, BScN, BSc (Food Science
Technology), BSc (Nutrition and Dietetics), MSc Human Anatomy, MMed General,
Orthopaedic, Neuro and ENT surgery; MDS (OMFS and Periodontology), PhD. During
this tenure, the most notable achievements have been the following:
4.2.1 Integration of teaching for all the postgraduate programmes and MBChB and BDS.
4.2.2 Reinstatement and sustenance of the unique high caliber Intercalated BSc
Anatomy Programme after 13 years latent period. It has graduated 26 candidates,
3 of whom have since joined teaching staff.
4.2.3 Introduction of MSc Human Anatomy programme. This has streamlined and
mainstreamed graduate training of Human Anatomists. Two members of staff have
successfully gone through it.
4.2.4 Mainstreamed the concept use of exemplary continuing students as teaching
assistants to demonstrate to and mentor younger colleagues. Six products of this
system have since joined staff and demonstrated exemplary capacity for teaching
and research.
4.2.5 Reinstatement of PhD in Human Anatomy programme after 20 years latent period.
Two candidates have successfully completed and 4 are at advanced stage. It has
attracted international students, with some currently processing admission.

4.2.6 Entrenchment of Research and publication culture, raising number of publications
from one (1) to fourty (40) articles in international peer reviewed journals per year.
4.2.7 Expansion of teaching facilities, notably
- Extending microscopic Anatomy laboratory by 50%
- Increasing student microscopes from 70 to 200 pieces.
- Establishment of student computer laboratory
- Extending dissection room by 50%
- Increasing dissection tables from 18 to 35.
4.3 1991 – 2004: Programme coordinator for MBChb, B.Pharm and BScN. This position
involves among others, the following activities:
- Preparation of teaching schedules
- Space allocation
- Coordination of continuous assessment and end of year examinations.
- Ensuring timely delivery of sessions of instructions namely lecturers,
tutorials and practicals.
- Liason with other departments involved in the teaching.
The most notable achievement during this time was partial integration of the undergraduate teaching programmes especially MBChB, BDS and B.Pharm.
5.0 Experience in Management of Income Generation U nits
5.1 1991– Todate: Supervisor/manager of Chiromo Mortuary Services. Oversaw the
establishment and growth of Chiromo mortuary services to become the largest non-
academic IGU in the university.
Major achievements during the last 5 years include:
5.1.1 Oversaw smooth relocation of CFP services to the HAA. Currently, within 4
months, 85% of activities have been relocated successfully without
interrupting service provision and customer care. 5.1.2 Leveraged for construction of Human Anatomy Annexe (HAA) to house CFP,
away from academic activities. The annexe is a 3 level 700m2 complex at
Chiromo road/riverside drive junction.

5.1.3 Reorganization of human resource base by creating an establishments for
Chiromo Funeral Palour independent of academic functions. This
establishment now comprises one (1) manager, one (1 clerk, two(2)
embalmers, two (2) porters, two(2) cleaners; one (1) guard and one (1)
groundsman. 5.1.4 Introduction of training programmes for mortuary attendants. Products of this
programmes have taken up management roles in several public and private
mortuaries. 5.1.5 Introduced the principle of use of CFP as a “research laboratory” from which
data can be collected analysed and manuscripts published.
5.2 2006: Introduction of hearse services and coffin lowering devices
5.3 2004 – 2005: Designed and innovated the refurbishment and renovation of
infrastructure and improvement of customer care characterized by:
• Opening of basement storage space
• Introduction of use of refrigerated cabinets in storage of bodies.
• Resuscitation and sustenance of stable revenue in the wake of increasing
competition.
6.0 Management/Administrative Experience
6.1 Chairman of Department
2008 – Todate: Chairman, Department of Human Anatomy. Main non-academic
achievements during this tenure include:
6.1.1 Physical rehabilitation and refurbishment of the department and its environs.
6.1.2 Expansion of the department by about 1500m2, including innovative use of
hitherto unthought-of of basement space.
6.1.3 Reorganization of space utilization to extend dissection and microscopic
anatomy laboratories, and establishment of student computer laboratories.
6.1.4 Innovative introduction of double decked dissection tables.
6.1.5 Introduction of card system of monitoring student fees payment.
6.1.6 Expansion of the establishment by recruitment, rationalization, promotion and

1998 – 2002: Chairman of Ebumarachi Development and welfare Association.
During this period I coordinated and oversaw the community to
raise funds for the following:
- Renovation of over 60 primary schools and 8 secondary schools
- Establishment of 4 new secondary schools
- Construction of 4 new dispensaries.
- Rehabilitation of several shallow wells.
- Establishment of a constituency education fund for bright needy students from
the constituency.
- Establishment of benevolent funds for over 6 community based organized
group slum dwellers in Nairobi.
