Topic: What value do you believe your art form has for the society at large?

Music and society: a greater sensibility

Nowadays we live in a materialistic and extremely superficial society, people do not

reflect on things anymore, they do not have any more great ideals and values, and it is

difficult for them to feel deep emotions and relationships with other people. Every single

man is a kind of isolated and selfish unit, closed on his routine which leads him to live

superficially, without going beyond the exterior aspect of things and facts.

Art, instead, is the highest expression of the human soul, is the only way man has always

expressed his deepest side, which cannot be described just by simple words, but needs

something more to be communicated to others.

So, I think that the only way we can try to change and make better our society, is through

art.

Art has the capacity to change people, to refine people s sensibility, in order to make life

more real and alive, because you really feel what you experience, and people would not be

so apathetic, so closed on themselves, but could open thei r mind to greater issues which

go beyond everyday groove.

Moreover, art can bring back the attention to great universal values, that it deals with,

which belong to every man, letting alone matters of race, religion, political affiliation etc.,

and this is why works of art can be understood by any person from all over the world.

Nevertheless, artists dont make art just by chance, but they use a specific language

combined with their own creativity, in order to create something unique, with a deep

meaning; but sometimes, if you are n ot used to the language of a kind of art, you may not

understand what the artist wanted to say with his piece.

This is why I believe that music is the best form of art to the aim of educating, of refining

peoples sensibility, because among all kinds of art, like dance, figurative arts, drama,

cinema etc. , music is the most immediate and most easy to understand.

All other forms, from paintings, to poetries , from ballets to films, they present something

visual, then you have to interpret it, to go beyond the simple outer face to get the real

message of the artist, while music is something you feel immediately, deep inside yourself,

you dont have to think too much and it does not require too many words of explanation.

This is why I believe that music is the best form of art to communicate with a big public,

because you cannot always deal just with cultured people, but also with less educated

ones, and music has the great capacity to communicate with everybody.
