ISSUE 61 | VOL 13 | July 14, 2021 KEY COVID INITIATIVES NAND GHAR BU UPDATES Anil Agarwal Foundation – the umbrella entity for Vedanta’s Give-back initiatives – has rolled out a Rs 5,000 crore social impact programme with focus on nutrition, women and child development, healthcare, animal welfare and grass root level sports, including investments in a Corona-free village project across several states to combat the pandemic. The social impact programme will build on the mission of creating strong and resilient communities over the next five years. The focus is to adopt the ‘Building Back Better’ strategy for India to provide not only immediate relief but long-term assurance on health and safety grounds. KPMG will be a strategic partner for implementing the plan. Under the flagship ‘Swasth Gaon Abhiyaan’ , Vedanta will provide end-to-end healthcare solutions across1,000 villages. The initiative is designed to enhance ‘immunity in community’ across 24 districts in 12 states and is part of Vedanta’s vision of providing social development and infrastructure as an essential service to the nation. The program will also enhance job opportunities, reskill the youth and help bring in stability and progress. Through the massive social impact programme, Vedanta, under the aegis of Anil Agarwal Foundation, has set a goal of impacting more than 2 million lives across rural India. The initiative will follow a model of interventions at the district level, and facilitate Oxygen Generation Plants, Telemedicine services, Upgradation of Medical and Diagnostic infrastructure and Mobile Medical Van/ Ambulances. The pool of interventions will be planned as per specific needs and availability at the various district hospitals. Vedanta will collaborate with state governments and district administration to provide a safety net for communities. Efforts are being made to promote vaccination through special medical & wellness camps being held in remote areas. Provisions of medical amenities are also being made available in district hospitals and health care centres to ensure quality treatment. Vaccination is the most important shield for the community, and Vedanta is committed to augment the government’s efforts. The company is working on plans to provide vaccination cover for over 5 lakh people from our communities. Vedanta has already rolled out one of the largest vaccination drive by India Inc, aiming to cover 1.2 lakh employees, their families and business partners by next month. On June 29, the Drug Controller General of India granted permission to Cipla to import the Moderna vaccines from the US. The vaccine, with efficacy of approximately 94.1 per cent, also has received EUA from the World Health Organization and over 50 countries. INDIA TO GET COVID-19 VACCINE FROM MODERNA The Union cabinet on Thursday approved a Rs 23,000-crore financial package for improving health infrastructure in the country to fight the Covid pandemic. Addressing a press conference here after the first meeting of the Union cabinet following its reshuffle on Wednesday, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the package will be implemented over the next nine months till March 2022. UNION CABINET UNVEILS PACKAGE TO BOOST HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday effected sweeping changes to his government, ushering in a new set of leaders in key ministries with 36 new faces taking oath. Reliance Industries Ltd is looking to buy Norwegian solar module maker REC Group as part of the oil refiner’s Rs 75,000 crore push into clean energy, said two people aware of the development. Norway’s REC Group has an annual solar panel production capacity of 1.8 gigawatts (GW) and has installed around 10GW capacity globally. (Hindu Business Line) Cairn Energy said on Thursday a Paris court had accepted its petition that Indian state-owned assets in the city worth over 20 million euros ($24 million) be frozen, claiming a significant win in its campaign to force the Indian government to pay Cairn billion-dollar damages in a protracted tax dispute. A French tribunal ordered the freeze on some 20 centrally located properties belonging to the Indian government as part of a guarantee of the amount owed to Cairn, the London-listed firm said. (Reuters) Royal Dutch Shell on Wednesday said it would boost its returns to shareholders via share buybacks or dividends after a sharp rise in oil and gas prices helped it reduce debt. It will increase its distribution to shareholders to 20% to 30% of cash flow from operations beginning in the second quarter, the company said in a trading statement ahead of its quarterly results. (Reuters) Malaysia's state oil firm Petronas has signed a 10-year liquefied natural gas supply agreement with a subsidiary of China's offshore oil and gas major CNOOC Ltd valued at about $7 billion, the firm said on Wednesday. Petronas said the deal with CNOOC Gas and Power Trading & Marketing Limited is for 2.2 million tonnes per annum over a 10-year period. (Reuters) Swiss commodities trader Glencore said on Monday Kalidas Madhavpeddi will take over as its new chairman at the end of the month when Tony Hayward retires after eight years in the role. U.S.-based Madhavpeddi joined the board of the London- listed miner in February 2020 and is better known as the chief executive of China Molybdenum International (CMOC), a role he covered for almost ten years until 2018. Village Health and Nutrition Day or VHND is as a platform for interfacing between the community and the health system. Nand Ghars are active resource centres for such VHNDs where the community members gather and discuss relevant issues. The VHSC comprising the ASHA, the AWW, the ANM, and the PRI representatives, if fully involved in organizing the event, can bring change in the way that people perceive health and health care practices. VEDANTA LAUNCHES ‘BRAVEHEARTS’ CAMPAIGN

Vedanta Group, India’s leading natural resources producer, has announced the launch of a unique digital campaign, ’Bravehearts’, to salute unsung heroes who went beyond their call of duty to help others during the second wave of the pandemic.

Vedanta is releasing short videos as a part of the campaign, depicting, and showcasing real-life stories of the 'Bravehearts’. One such story that has been depicted in the digital campaign is of Aakansha Sadekar, who began providing home cooked meals to women and children on the streets, as well as frontline workers in hospitals, who were hit hard during the lockdown. With her focused efforts, Aakansha was able to provide more than 2,50,000 hot meals to those in need within a span of just 60 days.

Reliance Industries Ltd is looking to buy Norwegian solar module maker REC Group as part of the oil refiner’s Rs 75,000 crore push into clean energy, said two people aware of the development. Norway’s REC Group has an annual solar panel production capacity of 1.8 gigawatts (GW) and has installed around 10GW capacity globally. REC, founded in 1996, has regional hubs in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. (Mint)

Tata Steel expects India to account for 73% of its business over the next decade as it moves to double production capacity and broaden offerings. A decade ago, Europe accounted for bulk (63 per cent) of its business, while India comprised 29 per cent. (Times of India)

A Jindal family faction has saved their power company from going into bankruptcy after banks accepted their offer of Rs 2,500 crore to settle the company’s dues under Reserve Bank of India’s one-time settlement scheme (OTS), according to sources. The family of BC Jindal, whose nephews Naveen and Sajjan control JSPL and JSW, respectively, had made an offer to restructure the debt of their company Jindal India Thermal Power to bankers. Proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis has recommended shareholders vote against the re-election of a member of Adani Enterprises risk committee after an Australian court criticised "unconscionable conduct" in its Australian port business. Adani Enterprises' Australian unit, Bravus Mining & Resources, has been involved in a controversial project to develop the Carmichael mine in Queensland to sell thermal coal into India, despite concerns about global warming. Goldman Sachs-backed ReNew Power is planning to participate in the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for solar manufacturing, thereby expanding its portfolio from generation and transmission to manufacturing as well. ReNew is one of the top five renewable energy companies in India with a solar and wind power portfolio of 9.8 GW of commissioned and under construction capacity. (Business Standard)

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) is committed to spending ₹30,000 crore in the ongoing financial year as part of its overall efforts to promote local ventures and support the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the firm said on Sunday. (Hindu Business Line)

Cairn Energy said on Thursday a Paris court had accepted its petition that Indian state-owned assets in the city worth over 20 million euros ($24 million) be frozen, claiming a significant win in its campaign to force the Indian government to pay Cairn billion-dollar damages in a protracted tax dispute. A French tribunal ordered the freeze on some 20 centrally located properties belonging to the Indian government as part of a guarantee of the amount owed to Cairn, the London-listed firm said. Royal Dutch Shell on Wednesday said it would boost its returns to shareholders via share buybacks or dividends after a sharp rise in oil and gas prices helped it reduce debt. It will increase its distribution to shareholders to 20% to 30% of cash flow from operations beginning in the second quarter, the company said in a trading statement ahead of its quarterly results. Malaysia's state oil firm Petronas has signed a 10-year liquefied natural gas supply agreement with a subsidiary of China's offshore oil and gas major CNOOC Ltd valued at about $7 billion, the firm said on Wednesday. Petronas said the deal with CNOOC Gas and Power Trading & Marketing Limited is for 2.2 million tonnes per annum over a 10-year period. (Reuters)

Swiss commodities trader Glencore said on Monday Kalidas Madhavpeddi will take over as its new chairman at the end of the month when Tony Hayward retires after eight years in the role. U.S.-based Madhavpeddi joined the board of the London-listed miner in February 2020 and is better known as the chief executive of China Molybdenum International (CMOC), a role he covered for almost ten years until 2018. Nand Ghar premises accommodate indigenously grown poshan vatikas. The yield produced from the gardens is distributed amongst the beneficiaries, adding healthy greens in their diet. Local samaritans like the youth, the women of the Mahila Samiti as well as the members of the Nand Ghar Committee voluntarily tend to these nutrition gardens, exhibiting a good example of community ownership. The community members have been diligently taking care of the gardens by adding protective fence, regular watering and tending.

Village Health and Nutrition Day or VHND is as a platform for interfacing between the community and the health system. Nand Ghars are active resource centres for such VHNDs where the community members gather and discuss relevant issues. The VHSC comprising the ASHA, the AWW, the ANM, and the PRI representatives, if fully involved in organizing the event, can bring change in the way that people perceive health and health care practices.

At Hindustan Zinc, we continuously strive to run our facilities with high standards. The Assay Lab at Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter is accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) with the standard. The NABL certification assesses the competence of testing at labs and assures that the highest standards are maintained. And 5 of our labs across locations are already accredited with this certification.

Hindustan Zinc under project Sakhi in collaboration with Manjari Foundation distributes loans to SHGs

Hindustan Zinc is working with 370 self-help groups, 4312 women in 43 villages of 14-gram panchayats under project Sakhi in collaboration with Manjari Foundation. Under the program, a loan of 28 lakhs was distributed to 16 self-help groups by District Collector. On this occasion, District Collector Mr. Tarachand motivated the women for self-employment and to use the amount received in the form of a loan for livelihood promotion activities.

Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar mines inaugurate Purvanchal block

Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar Balaria mine inaugurated purvanchal block. This block will help Balaria mine to ramp up the production from 0.72MT in FY’21 to 1.2MT in FY’22. Further, there is potential to explore extensions of the same at deeper levels (250mRL and below) from surface exploration, which will add/upgrade 1.5MT of ore in the resource kitty of Zawar under Purvanchal project.
