A new Independent Contractor’s compensa- tion program rolled-out June 3, 2007. The changes will increase our driver’s success by simplifying their program, increasing their income (a solo running 2500 miles per week should see an annual benefit of +$5,200), decreasing turnover and removing many irri- tants expressed by drivers in recent surveys. C.R. England will now pay for licensing, Qualcomm, settlement and insurance ad- ministration fees, as well as Federal Highway Usage Tax. The general reserve requirement increases to 7 cents-per-mile (CPM), however, the reserve will now pay for all repairs and maintenance. The excess miles assessment is eliminated, as of July 1. A pay rate increase of 1-CPM at each length of haul level, in all divisions except Regional. All drivers are issued a PrePass Plus® transponder and will be paid 100% on ap- proved tolls (details are in the improved toll policy article in this edition of the Round- table). The only remaining transaction fees are for express codes. All other transaction fees are being eliminated. The quarterly safety bonus is also being elim- inated as of July 1st. A new safety program will be introduced later this year to increase focus on safety. Driver response to the changes has been very positive. A new Independent Contractor’s compensa-tion program rolled-out June 3, 2007. The changes will increase our driver’s success by simplifying their program, increasing their income (a solo running 2500 miles per week should see an annual benefit of +$5,200), decreasing turnover and removing many irri-tants expressed by drivers in recent surveys.

C.R. England will now pay for licensing, Qualcomm, settlement and insurance ad-ministration fees, as well as Federal Highway Usage Tax.

All drivers are issued a PrePass Plus® transponder and will be paid 100% on ap-proved tolls (details are in the improved toll policy article in this edition of the Round-table).

The only remaining transaction fees are for express codes. All other transaction fees are being eliminated.

The quarterly safety bonus is also being elim-inated as of July 1st. A new safety program will be introduced later this year to increase

focus on safety.

Driver response to the changes has been very positive. The I n d e p e n d e n t contractor di-vision looks forward to a pro-ductive future by increasing busi-ness support and facilitating productive com-munication with our Independent Contractors.

The England Logistics Agent Program begins its first in-house school in June. England Logistics (EL) currently has 26 freight brokers across the country and is looking to grow. These agents work under the authority of C.R. England. The school has been a joint effort of members from the agent team as well as the sales and training departments in EL.

The school is an intense 40-hour, weeklong training with the purpose of grad-uating its students to be freight brokers. Students must pass exams in order to earn the ability to broker freight. Not all students that graduate will be invited to work with EL as a sponsored agent broker. “We are looking for the best and brightest and although every-

one who passes the exam will graduate as a broker, it doesn’t mean that they’ll work with us; we are taking only the best, “ stat-ed Jeff Van Wag-oner, EL Director of Agents.

Potential bro-kers are fly-ing in from

around the country to take part in this school. We will have students from TX, ID, GA, OH and ID all ready and eager to

learn what it takes to be a top broker.

Training is facilitated by department manag-ers and directors and provides the tools and knowledge needed to leave train-ing and be able to become part of this growing segment within the transportation industry.

The agent school is not free and students must be willing to make an investment in themselves in order to participate. If you are looking for a world-class freight brokerage school, stop looking – this is the one!

2007 England Logistics Program

All C.R. England drivers have a chance to win a NEW 2007 Ford XLT Super Cab 4X4 truck. It’s very simple! There are two ways to be eligible. First, a driver is entered into the weekly drawing by avoiding having a prevent-able accident. Second, if their fleet goes loss free for the week all the drivers in that fleet are added to the drawing.

One safe winner will be selected every two weeks from May 1st thru July 31st, 2007 for a total of six safe winners. Each winner will select a key; if your key opens the door you win the truck. We will give the truck away be-fore the Salt Lake BEES crowd on C.R. Eng-land night, August 15th. All C.R. England employees and their families are invited to attend. Tickets will be provided.

We are excited to announce our first two

winners-Charles Bond of Fleet H3 and Ar-thur Munsch of Fleet G4. We still have 4 more safe drivers to be selected. Will it be you? Safe drivers are the backbone of our company and C.R. England is committed to safety and promoting safe driving. We look forward to seeing you at C.R. England night at the ballpark and giving this truck to one safe and lucky driver.

On June 23rd at the Utah Fairgrounds, three C.R. England drivers swept the 5 axle sleep-er class at the Utah Truck Driv-ing Cham-pionships. In the his-tory of this event, this has only happened on other time. It was in 2005 also by C.R. England Driv-ers. Congratulations to all of our drivers for competing.

Janet and Richard Filiczkowski (92105)Janet and her husband, Richard were east-bound on I-90 near Plankinton South Da-kota. Janet, who was driving, noticed a PT cruiser cross over the westbound lane, me-dian, eastbound lanes in front of their truck, cross over the side of the road, strike a barbed wire fence and continue on into a field then launch into a stock pond. Janet yelled at Richard who was in the sleeper and brought the truck to a stop.Richard jumped out of the truck before it came to a complete stop and ran to the pond and dove into the water as he saw a young

girl in the backseat yelling for help. The wa-ter was up to the windshield. He was able to get the rear hatch open and pulled her out and swam her to shore. He handed her off to Janet then went back as the car continued to sink into the pond. 2 other people also jumped in to help. The car completely sub-merged and between Richard and the other 2 men they were able to open the windows and passenger door. The driver of the vehicle was still in his seatbelt and they couldn’t get it undone. The vehicle was in 8 feet of ice cold, dark and murky water and they were hardly able to see. With a pocket knife they were able to finally get the man out of the car after diving down repeatedly. The driver of the car succumbed to the accident. Janet took care of Abby as the child repeat-edly hollered, “Help my dad. Get him out.”Janet tried to keep Abby’s mind off what was happening by asking her about school and letting her play with their dog, Minnie. Para-medics took Abby and Richard to receive medical care.Janet and Richard are true knights of the road. Richard received the Highway Angel award from the Truckload Carriers Associa-tion. Gunn has been driving for C.R. England for 18 years. He was born in Germany and now lives in Colo-rado. When Gunn is not driving he enjoys building sail boats. He has 5 kids including 2 sets of twins. Gunn credits his driving success to staying alert and consistently using his mirrors.

Noble has been with the company for 9 years. He lives in West Valley City, Utah with his wife, son, 2 stepsons, and 2 dogs. In his free time he enjoys camping, riding dirt bikes and 4-wheelers. Noble says the key to his driving success is, “...being very observant of every-thing and anticipating what the other vehicles are going to do.” His safety tip to other driv-ers is, “Slow down. If you think you are going too fast for conditions, you are going way too fast.”

Christopher has been with C.R. England for 9 years. He is from Fairfax, Virginia and still currently resides there. In his free time he enjoys riding in his Bandit Edition 1978 Trans-am, spending time with his close friends, and supporting Stock Car Racing. Christopher says the keys to his driving success are, “knowing my limitations and work-ing well with my Driver Managers.” His safety tip to other drivers is, “Be patient; with this every-thing else falls in place. Also, always think and plan ahead.”

C.R. England has helped to create some wonderful memories for hundreds of elemen-tary school students in Salt Lake’s Granite school district through the Adopt-A-Driver program.

Never heard of Adopt-A-Driver? Contact Jeanie Bowen at [email protected] or ext. 3824. She will give you information about a class that you can be “adopted” by. Then, as you are out traveling in this great country, pick up a post card and send it to your class. Write about where you are and what you do. We ask that you send one post card a week, as well as one visit to the school with the truck during the school year. The kids will write back to you and promise to make your day!

Every driver who has participated in this program has a story to tell. A principal

wrote about the enthusiasm of his students and how the teachers feel the Adopt-A-Driver program dovetails with what they are teaching! A teacher wrote, “The students are so excited to hear from our driver! She gave us a math problem to see if she had enough fuel to reach her destination. Great for real life math!” One driver commented that when he went to visit the class, he felt like a rock star or santa; the kids were so excited! Often the students send letters and pictures to their driver. Not only is this fun for them but it’s a great way to help them learn letter writing and improve their Eng-lish skills. One driver put it this way, “Other drivers need to know the joy that comes from this program! Children need and want men-tors. They deserve every opportunity they can get. Children are the future!” Thanks to all you wonderful drivers who continue to make the Adopt-A-Driver program a success!

Safety Meetings on the InternetA few months back, an announcement was made regarding a new business venture on the horizon. On April 23rd 2007, C.R. Eng-land pulled its first load out of the new Wal-mart distribution center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We are pleased to announce that the start-up of this account was a complete success.

Thanks to the valiant efforts of the staff in Cheyenne (driver and office), this start-up has been recognized as an exemplified ac-complishment. It is truly amazing how many moving parts had taken place in order to en-

sure the success of this start-up, and even more gratifying to witness the teamwork on behalf of the Dedicated and Na-tional divisions to make this happen.

The dedicated division was pleased to make the announcement of Christian Porter’s tran-sition into the account

manager in January of 2007. Knowing the position would be a challenge, Christian has risen to the occasion and set the stage for success. I was fortunate to be present on Day One of the Wal-mart Cheyenne start-up.

The professionalism and dedication dem-onstrated by CRE staff out in Cheyenne left a feeling of reassurance that this account would succeed in all facets.

There is no question; obstacles and chal-lenges still lie ahead, but we need to re-mind ourselves – leadership and teamwork will always be the determining factor of our success.

Thanks to all who joined us for a success-ful May Fair! Although we started off in the rain, spirits were not doused! This year’s May Fair was host to more partici-pants than we have seen in years. 2007 MAY FAIR

The Urgent Need For Organs• More than 93,000 men, women and

children currently await life-saving trans-plants.

• Every 12 minutes, another name is added to the national transplant waiting list.

• An average of 18 people die each day due to the lack of available organs for transplant.

How can You Donate?• Indicate your wish on your drivers license

or state I.D. when you apply or renew it.• Join the donor registry in your state. • Complete a donor card and keep it with

you.

• Put your wish to be a donor in your will or living will.

• Tell your family (very important). They may be consulted before donation.

You do not have to donate all of your or-gans; you may specify the ones you will of-fer. Neither age nor medical history should prevent you from becoming a donor. At C.R. England, we strongly support organ, eye and tissue donation. You may sign up in the Salt Lake Office or go to www.yesutah.org and sign up on-line. If you would like to sign up through another state, go to www.organdonor.gov for information on how to access your state’s registry.
