President - Nina Garcia: Hello Everybody, I am Nina Garcia and I am proud to be serving as your president for the upcoming year. Since I am still fairly new to the Mom's Club I would like to share a little bit about myself. My husband, Danny, and I moved to Woodstock in June of 2005 from Wilmington, DE. We were anxious to be closer to our family in Florida so when Danny received a great job offer from a local pharmaceutical company we decided to relocate to the Atlanta area. Shortly after we settled into our home, we became pregnant and were blessed with the birth of our son, Gabriel (now 21 months old). In order to meet fellow moms and learn more about the Woodstock area, I became a member of the Mom’s Club last June. When I am not doing the usual “mom things” I enjoy watching movies, scrapbooking, crafting, and reading. I also love to go dancing and my newest interest is playing team trivia at various Atlanta restaurants and coffee houses. I have many new ideas and hopes for the Mom’s Club as we begin another year of fun, bonding, and making memories. I look forward to seeing many of you at future Mom’s Club events! Administrative Vice-President (AVP) - Maya Arabia: My name is Maya Arabia and I am a currently approaching my fourth year as a Moms Club member. I transferred from the Acworth West Chapter March ‘06. My husband and I moved to Woodstock because of the great community, schools, and because of the many conveniences of its location. I have one child; Gavin Arabia, 3 years old. Gavin and I have made many great friendships through Moms Club. Our weeks are filled with many activities. We enjoy park days, field trips, and reaching out to others through social work. We have been very lucky to be a part of something so big. I am thrilled to be starting another year as the AVP. Thank you for my nomination and I look forward to another fun filled year! Membership Vice President (MVP) - Catherine Moore: Hi everyone, I’m Catherine Moore! Having enjoyed serving as your President for the past year, I know a lot of you already. For those of you that I haven’t met or haven’t gotten to know as well, here's a little bit about me: I moved to Woodstock almost 2 years ago with my salesman husband, Ben, and son, Spencer (now 4 ½). I joined the MOMS Club in October and Audrey (now 1 ½) arrived that December. My non-kid-centric interests include hiking, lots of book reading (primarily fiction) and board games (the Board Games for MOMS is one of my favorite MOMS Club activities). Though it’s more of a rare occurrence these days, I also love going out to eat. I’m looking forward to serving on the board of this great club for another year and helping us find ways to enrich it with new members! Secretary – Amy Nelson: Hi! I’m Amy Nelson. My husband, Mitch, and I moved to Woodstock in 1999. I have been a member of Moms Club since Feb. 2005, when my son, David, had just turned one. I was so delighted to learn about Moms Club & to connect with other Moms who were staying at home to raise their kiddos too! I think the first 6 months I only did the Moms events…movies, scrapbooking, MNO because Moms Club met my need to connect with other moms! It’s been fun to see the blessings of Moms Club expand for us over the past three years, as we have been involved in many of the activities, gymnastics, tours etc. during each month & connected with many of you. This next fall David will start pre-K and will be in school for the first time, so we will see you all more at the afternoon activities, movie club, members’ meetings, etc. I am delighted to have more time this year with David being in school to give back to the club by serving at Secretary. We have a great club & I am delighted to be apart of it!! And I am delighted to serve you all this year as many of you have served us!! Treasurer - Dana Wood: I’m your new treasurer, Dana Wood. I knew that finance degree would come in good for something one day! Being the native Texan that I am, I received my degree from SMU in Dallas, TX, where I grew up and lived until moving to Atlanta. My husband’s job with Fidelity Investments brought us here in 1993. We have a 4 year old, Christopher, and a sassy little 19-month-old named Olivia (one of each, we are done!). I joined the MOMS Club last spring after coming home from working a full-time job only to find I had few friends outside of work. It has really helped me transition to this new and exciting life as a stay at home mom. Other things I enjoy are good Mexican food, sushi, movies, scrapbooking, and quality time with the family.

MOMS of the Month Karen Czaplicki: When I was asked to write about who I am it was really difficult to decide what to share. I at first thought to share about how I have lived in Woodstock for two years, and that I am originally from Connecticut. I also thought to share that I graduated with a Sports Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut, only to then go back to school to receive a master’s degree in Elementary Education. It seemed appropriate to discuss that I was a fifth grade teacher prior to staying home with my beautiful daughter, Mary, and that I am currently going back to Georgia State University for a doctorate degree in Early Childhood Education. However,

upon closer examination of who I am and where I am from I decided to share a poem with you that I wrote a few years ago. I added a few new lines and omitted some others, but it sums up who I am pretty nicely.

Where I’m FromI am from love.

From kisses and hugsand “this little piggy” on my toes.

I am from sunny side up eggs mashed with bread and

washed down with hot tea.I am from t.v. trays that we used to set up

on Saturday nights, while eating boiled hot dogs and potato chips as we watched movies.I am from humor, mopeds, tree forts, and self-made wooden rafts that never seemed to float on the stream by my house.

I am from Atari, especially Frogger and Q-bertand from Lake George, NY where my family vacationed every year.

I am from sports like basketball and hiking

and especially playing soccer, which is how I met my husband.I am from board games, like Taboo and Pictionary,

and I am from card games like Pinochle and Uno-which is how my husband proposed.I am from love.

From kisses and hugsAnd “this little piggy” on my daughter’s toes.

I am from love.

Heaven Barnett: Hi! As some of you know, I have three children, Anna (10), Thomas (4), and William (3). I have been married to my husband, Shawn, for five years! We met through a mutual friend of ours after both just breaking off engagements to other people. It seems as though we met at the right time and the right place! I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts being third in line from a family of seven children, and at age 9 moved to Northern California where I call Auburn my hometown. My little family and I moved to Woodstock, Georgia for my husband’s job in 2004. It’s pretty, calmer, and has a slower pace of life that I so needed. I love to play sports and I enjoy going to see them. I played soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, softball, and was head cheerleader

throughout high school and some college. I went to college studying early childhood, acting and singing. I put my dreams of becoming a singer, actress, and teacher on hold to take guardianship, and care for Anna. Family is more important, but I intend to finish what I started and get my voice on record before it’s too late. I enjoy directing pageants, judging pageants, scrapbooking, designing special cards and announcements, and watching movies! I belong to the Movie Club, Scrapbooking Club, am the calendar coordinator, and newsletter editor for the MOMS Club. “Thanks for all of your fun ideas too for the calendar!” I love being a stay-at-home Mommy! I’ve been blessed daily to stay home and be a part of everything my children do. Being with them all day, volunteering at school, going to therapy, doctor appointments, and going to award ceremonies has all been rewarding and educational. You only live once, so I try to live life to it’s fullest. Having dirty handprints on the walls, mud tracks leading up to the front door, and pretty pictures made for me is truly a blessing and a dream come true. Thanks for letting me share!!

Small GroupsActivity Groups Information - July 2008

Activity groups are a great way to meet new people within the club. The groups are also a great way to have some well-deserved mommy time. Some suggested groups have been Book Club, Recipe Club and the “Lonely Wives” Dinner Club, but we need someone to head them up. Coordinating a group is not time consuming and it is a great way to get more involved in the club. If you have an interest and would like to form a group, please contact the Activities Group Liaison, Betty Miller at [email protected] or by phone at (770) 592-4961.

Here’s the info on our current groups:

11th, Aug. 8th, & Sept. 12th. All Movie Club members determine each Movie Club movie. All members are welcome, so if you haven't come before, come join us for a great time, popcorn and less potty breaks. opportunities are FREE and a few of them have a nominal fee for food. If you know of some other opportunities, then let Amy know those too!

Recipes If you like new recipe ideas and/or love to share recipes when you try something and love it…. then let Amy Nelson know you want to be added to her recipe email list. As she gets recipes emailed to her,

MOMS Club International recommends that local chapters adopt a blanket rule stating that no member may solicit sales at meetings or group functions. The MOMS Club of Woodstock wholeheartedly endorses this recommendation. Selling takes away from the purpose of the club—getting moms together in an accepting no-pressure
