Chairman’s MessageMy dear Employees, Customers, Shareholders, and Suppliers,

Assalamo-Alaikum and welcome to a new issue of BSRM XTREME TALK.

By the grace of Allah BSRM continues to reach out to new heights and I am glad to report that we have embarked on a corporate structural change that speaks to the new vision and values that we created in January 2010 and which we published in our last newsletter.

Our consultants have been busy with us as we live our Vision of being the employer of choice. We have approved a new structure for BSRM that will create a corporate organization with clearly defined functional and unit structure to allow BSRM to react faster and adjust quickly to changing market conditions. The next couple of months we will bring the good news to all areas of the BSRM family.

Internally we have started activities in response to the findings identified by our employees who participated in the survey. Every step will be taken to assure that we do right by our staff while maintaining our commitments to all our stakeholders in the community and the nation at large.

On 6th June 2010 we held our annual general meeting (AGM) where we announced our financial achievements for 2009 which by the grace of Allah and all our efforts has resulted in giving back to our shareholders some of the accumulated value in stock dividends of 15%. We intend to continue with this progress as long as the global economy and our government economic policies are favorable. Our government is a large consumer of steels across our nation and we hope that the commitment to economic development continues in 2010 and beyond. We at BSRM are focused on taking our nation to new heights with full cooperation of our government in terms of their economic development policy, investments in our infrastructure, and creating a business climate that supports Bangladesh businesses and our nation’s millennium goals.

It brings much sadness in our hearts that in Dhaka on 3rd June 2010 we lost many innocent lives. Poor people in large numbers perished in this terrible fire. Our prayers are with their families and friends and we hope that Almighty Allah will bless the departed by His grace. BSRM keeping focus to our corporate social commitment will offer support to the family of the departed through Prime Minister’s Relief Fund by a contribution of Taka 10 Lac to express our sincere sympathies to their loved ones left behind. Such terrible tragedy I hope will serve to remind us all of the lessons learned to help us create systems and processes that will result in saving lives.

The future we are building and where we see BSRM in the next few years will require a team spirit from all of us and I encourage all our stakeholders to join BSRM in this journey to maintain our leadership role in the steels industry in Bangladesh.

FUTURE PROOF TECHNOLOGY- Our ResponsibilityA seminar was held on 16th & 17th June with the participation of experts from 14 countries, which focused on the contribution that the engineers can make to tackle the impacts of Global Climate Change.

The Seminar is a joint event of BACE (Bangladesh Association of Consulting Engineers) and TCDPAP (Technical Consultancy Development Programme for Asia & Pacific)

The chosen theme of the Seminar was: “Role of Engineers in Tackling Climate Change”. As implied by the theme, the Seminar focused on the need of engineering innovations and possibilities to preserve the world.

We really need all our knowledge and intellect to survive. Engineers and scientists will have great responsibility of safeguarding the world from many dangers and fallouts of Climate Change.

BSRM was a proud co-sponsor of this important event.

SAFETY: Our Ultimate Goal.As the leading manufacturer of construction steels and a socially responsible company BSRM has always been concerned for people’s safety. This fact has found expression through various CSR activities and in previous marketing campaigns of the company. Through the commitment of producing best and consistent quality of steel bar and conforming to international standards immaculately, BSRM conquered the safety platform in the consumer’s mind.

XTREME HOUR

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

Winds of ChangeWelcome to the second edition of Xtreme Talk--- with the Bangla version making its debut--- depicting, as promised, the multifarious progressive activities the BSRM family is proud to have undertaken in recent days.

From an employee’s viewpoint, the most substantial of the undertakings that is starting to take shape, is the restructuring of the overall management system under the meaningful guidance of our competent consultants. In other words, we are changing for a sustainable, worthier future. After having defined our goals, values and vision, we are now collectively engaged in the exercise to extract the most out of the way we think, focus, act and deliver. It is also heartening to note that from the oldest employee to the very new recruit, everyone is riding the bandwagon with a sense of purpose that leaves no doubt in the observer’s mind that these winds of change at BSRM are refreshing indeed.

Concurrently, as if a blessing in disguise, our external environment has been transforming as well. With the anticipated arrival of other counterparts in the market, BSRM now has the scope of conspicuously exposing the second-to-none superiority of its products to its ever-growing number of patrons and clients countrywide. The trend-setting zeal with which BSRM had turned a quality construction commodity into a household brand-name (Xtreme 500W) two years ago, is now being emulated by fellow manufacturers. This in itself is a major source of recognition and encouragement for the BSRM think-tank that remains relentless in its quest to deliver state-of-the-art products while remaining true to our pledged commitment toward stronger, safer buildings in Bangladesh.

And “safety” remains a byword for BSRM products; our stress on this immeasurably important concept goes beyond building structures and stretches up to sizeable efforts in climate protection, as you will find from the article on the opening page. Besides, as a reinforced impetus, we have embarked on our all-new ‘BE SAFE’ campaign, the message and purpose of which will be evident to you through several modes of media currently.

On behalf of the Newsletter Committee, I wish you a pleasant read.

Be Safe!

BSRM, in pursuance of its continued CSR commitments, had allowed the sum for the victims’ families of the recent Nimtoli fire in the capital.

As part of customer’s service, BSRM Group ensures safe transportation of its products to the Dealers and valued Customers in different parts of the Country. Mode of transportation is trucks, long trailers using road routes. In the month of February 2010 it was found that a good number of trucks being hijacked by the miscreants on the highway and the materials are looted away. To stop this pilferage we asked help from highway police. As you all know Highway Police is having two distinct areas for smooth operation, named as Eastern Zone, headquarter located at Comilla and Western Zone, Headquarter located at Bogra. Highway Police Headquarters advised us to seek help from highway police posts and allowed us to have the location and cell phone numbers of the Posts. Accordingly we collected those and compiled as a small card which can be carried easily. We hope that this small card would helps travelers also to seek highway police’s help in time of need, at the same time it will enhance public-police relationship. For your kind information and better understanding we are placing a card below:
