Dear Friends in Christ,

I have some exciting

drawings in my office.

When my girls were young

these would have been

drawings from art class in

school. But today these

drawings are of the latest

architectural plans for the

improvement of our

building and grounds. They represent the work of two

committees, our staff, architect, and session over a

period of almost two years. We are nothing if not

thorough. As I have said before, the expansion and

renovations represented in these drawings are future-

oriented and ministry-focused; and they seek to make

our building and grounds more welcoming, accessible,

and efficient for the current and future ministry of our

church.

And now… drum roll, please… now it is time to show

them to you. The session is excited about this project.

We have voted unanimously to move forward. Now we

want you to begin to get excited about it and what that

means, at least in the short run, is to show the plans to

you. We’re probably not finished tinkering with the

plans. The cost of the project is a very rough estimate.

And we’re certainly not starting a campaign right now.

But we do want to show you the drawings so that we

might hear your ideas, questions and concerns if you

have them.

Here’s the plan. At first, there will be three options:

Sunday, August 21 (immediately following

sanctuary worship)

Sunday, August 28 (immediately following Kairos

worship)

Sunday, September 4 (immediately following

worship)

I plan to attend each of these gatherings along with

members of the Building Committee and session

members. We hope that you might find one of these

times to be convenient and look forward to sharing

some of our excitement with you.

Blessings,

Mark Your Calendars: September 4th: One Service, Congregational Meeting to Elect Officers to Class of 2019. September 11th: Breakfast at 9 am, Sunday School at 9:45 and Worship at 11.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY College Mission Team to San Simeon, Yucatan, Mexico

Participants included: Chris Mitchell, Ken Bates, James Mitchell, Whit Malone, Claire Stamper, Mary McKenzie Finger, Kathryn Nelson, Maggie Marshall, Ashley Newton, Emily Schmidt and Kailey Durham

MISSION

Thanks to tons of energetic children and awesome volunteers, VBS 2016 was a huge success!! Our rising kindergarteners through rising fourth graders spent the week on an underwater adventure learning that Jesus always looks beyond the surface, deep down on the inside and knows our hearts. Every morning began in “the helm” with a skit and fun energizers led by our senior highs. Then we split into age groups and spent the day learning a new Bible story, singing, playing outside and creating an incredible craft to reinforce the day’s theme!! Our oldest participants, rising fifth

and sixth graders, spent the week serving needs in our local community. Each day they embarked on a special mission – Monday they worked in the Soup Kitchen and toured CCM; they spent a rainy Tuesday pulling weeds in the HOPE community garden; Wednesday they served seniors lunch through the Catawba County Council on Aging; and they spent Thursday shopping to purchase school supplies for the Build a Backpack program for children in Catawba County Child Protective Services. They had a blast and learned so much in the process! Thanks so much to everyone that made VBS so much fun this year!!!

Congratulations to Graham and Elizabeth Cherry Alexander whose son, Joseph Wallace Alexander, was born June 23. Joseph Wallace has an older sister, Margaret. The proud maternal grandparents are Burford and Pat Cherry.

Kristen Marie Kalbaugh, the daughter of Mike and Jennifer Rowe Kalbaugh, was born July 10. Proud maternal grand-parents are Dave and Susan Rowe. Proud maternal great-grandmother is Lois Rowe.

YOUTH: SR. HIGH MISSION TRIP

For their mission trip, 22 Sr. High youth and 5 advisors traveled to Mobile, AL June 12-17 to serve on the Gulf Coast. The Sr. Highs worked with various agencies to serve our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ and shared a week together filled with urban mission, fellowship, and re-

flection. Thank you FPC for your love, prayers, and support!

YOUTH: JR. HIGH MISSION TRIP

From June 19-23, 22 of our Jr. High youth and 5 advisors served with one another in Raleigh, NC. During our time there, we worked with 8 different agencies to serve meals, tend to community

gardens, help with yard work, and serve in food pantries-- just to name a few of the ways we served! Thank you to our FPC family for all of the love and support you have given us to make

eye opening, life-changing mission trips like this possible!
