Karl’s Kaleidoscope: Others Matter! I am amazed by the outcry (or lack thereof) since the tragic death of George Floyd. Good Christians are caught up on both sides of this dilemma in our country. When faced with a crisis of

conscientiousness, a theological issue, or a need for moral clarification, The Rev. Mr. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, always went to the Bible first for guidance and answers. He called it, “the Primacy of Scripture.” As the debate continues about everything from defunding police to securing our cities… from defining justice and injustice to defining peace and control, there is an answer to all of it: the teachings of Jesus. The

following scriptures speak of what’s happening now... Jesus is speaking to us: “Love one another…” John 15:12. “Love your neighbor…” Mark 12:31. “Love your enemies…” Matthew 5:44. “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40. “If you are angry with a brother, you will be liable to judgement.” Matthew 5:22. “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgement you make you will be judged.” Matthew 7:1-2. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Luke 6:31. So, with all that is going on, “What Would Jesus Do”?

When we truly follow and believe in Jesus, others always

matter…

-Karl Klaus, Senior Pastor

It is mid-June as I write these words; unrest is in the air across the globe. I turn to one of my favorite hymn authors, New Zealand’s Shirley Erena Murray, who passed away this past January. She is known for her original poetic imagery that directly confronts contemporary issues, especially those concerned with justice and peace. In our Methodist supplement The Faith We Sing is her 1996 text that prophetically speaks for Christians in 2020. Read it slowly.

“Wounded world that cries for healing—here we hold each other’s pain, / wounded systems, bruised and bleeding bear the load, the scars of strain; / dollars ration our compassion, hard decisions rule the day, / Jesus of the healing Spirit, free us to another way!

“Through our nation’s spent frustration, through the corridors of stress / may there move a kindlier wisdom all may feel, and all may bless; / tax and tithe are for a purpose shared to shield the poor and weak; / past the symptoms of our sickness let the voice of justice speak.

“Honor those whose loving spirit nurses hope, restores and heals, / towel and basin used in service like the Christ who comes and kneels; / in the tending, in the mending may we see the right and fair, / in our common quest for wholeness heal each other by our care.” CCLI Song # 4360009 © 1996 Murray, Shirley Erena (Adm. Hope Pub. Co.) CCLI Lic # 1218132

Keep a song in your heart…and even let it out once in a while!

Cowboy Supper July 11 We are still following the train as he travels down the Rocky Mountains on his way here. The next stop is in the "Cowboy State" of Wyoming. Children and their families are invited to dress up as cow-boys and cowgirls as we spend time around the "campfire" out on the open range.

Swimming Hole July 25 We'll see the train again in Idaho at Bear Creek for fun water games and activities.

Friendship Train Mission Project We are continuing to fill the boxcars of our Friendship Train as we reach our goal of filling up 10 boxes! All food items will go to FUMCB's Helping Hands food pantry to help our local friends and neigh-bors! Remember, each time a box is filled with food, a boxcar will be added to the Friendship Train display in the front of the church for everyone to see as they drive by!

Food for the Friendship Train can be dropped off anytime at the main office entrance. Items needed include: crack-ers, spam, cereal, dry potato packets, jelly, macaroni and cheese, corn bread mix, canned or powdered milk, rice, and Jell-O.

Hi everyone! I am so excited that we are back to in person youth! Although things look a little different, it’s nice getting to see everyone again. We will continue throughout July with youth outside. We will be starting a devotion series about the fruits of the Spirit which I am very excited about! Just a reminder that we will not be having dinner so please plan accordingly! Greetings Church Family, A quick look at what is happening on our campus: Every day brings us a little closer to all being back together in church. Hang in there, it is going to happen and we will all rejoice.

Thank you, church for your generosity! With your support and our conservation on expenses the church has managed to keep our heads above water during this world crisis. Every day brings us new challenges but we are managing well. Praise God! Again, Thank You.

Dear Friends, How very grateful I am to be part of such a wonderful church family. Your attention to my needs through your prayers, calls, offers of help,

cards, food, and visits have seen me through months of pain and my inability to participate in the church activities that are so much a part of my life. The uncertainty of the results of the results of my surgery has been resolved, and I am blessed to be doing so well. You have filled my heart to overflowing with the love of Christ in action!
