HOLY TRINITY PARISH JULY 26, 2020 LIGONIER, PA

Attention Parents of Children who will be in the First Grade in September!

Parents of new first graders, this is a reminder that our faith formation program begins in the first grade and that the first grade program is a prerequisite to receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the second grade. Registration forms and the calendar for the upcoming year are now available on the parish web site: holytrinityligo-nier.org. You may return the registration forms by mailing them to the parish at 342 W. Main St., Ligonier, PA 15658, putting them in an envelope marked CCD Registration and dropping them in the collection basket, or emailing them to the parish email address: [email protected]. We would appreciate you registering your child as soon as possible so that we are sure we have enough materials for the first grade class in the fall. Please call the rectory at 724-238-6434 if you have any questions or concerns.

Parents: Registration Materials for Faith Formation 2020-21 Now Available

Registration information for our Faith Formation Program has been sent to all families who were in the Religious Education Program last year (students in grades 1-5). If you are new to the parish, or did not have your child in the program last year, but want to register them for this year’s program, you can find the calendar for the 2020-2021 year on the Holy Trinity Parish web site: holytrinityligonier.org. Please register your children as soon as you can so that the parish can be sure to have materials for every child in the program this year. Thank you for supporting the faith development of your child. Please call the rectory at 724-238-6434 if you have

any questions or concerns.

A Note from Carol Serafin

Dear Father Anthony and Holy Trinity Parishioners,

Thank you so much for the lovely retirement celebration you held in my honor. It was truly wonderful to see so many friends and fellow parishioners! I appreciate all the effort put forth by so many to make this event happen in spite of the crazy times we are going through! I always loved my job at Holy Trinity and one of the most important reasons for that is the wonderful people who make up this parish! Getting to know so many of you because of my position here was truly the icing on the cake! Your very generous monetary gift is also greatly appreciated— I promise to spend it wisely … or maybe not! See you in church!

Blessings!

Carol

FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY………………………………………………

Congratulations to Bishop Edward C. Malesic! Pope Francis appointed Bishop Malesic, Bishop of Greensburg, to be the twelfth Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio, on July 16, 2020. Bishop Malesic will be installed as the Bishop of Cleveland on Monday, September 14, 2020. This date commemorates the great Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Please keep Bishop Malesic in your prayers as he prepares to announce the Good News of the Victory of Jesus’s Cross over sin and death. Also, please pray for the Diocese of Greensburg as we await the appointment of our next Bishop. If today were not Sunday, we would be celebrating the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. May the members of the former St. Ann Chapel in Wilpen be particularly blessed today. Let us also remember all grandparents, as Saints Joachim and Ann are the grandparents of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In connection with the celebration of Sts. Joachim and Ann, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops annually celebrate Natural Family Planning Awareness Week. The Bishops write, “Live the truth and beauty of God’s plan for married love! It’s about love. It’s about life. It’s about freedom. It’s about gift.” For more information, please visit www.usccb.org/nfp. The summer holy day will soon be here! Every year on August 15, we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Usually this day is a holy day of obligation; however , this year , for two reasons, it is not a holy day of obligation. As you know, the Bishops have granted a dispensation from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass because of the pandemic. Also, when the Assumption falls on a Saturday, which it does this year, the obligation to attend Mass is dispensed. However, we will celebrate Mass at 1000AM on Saturday, August 15 to mark this important day, when Mary was assumed into Heaven, body and soul.

Thanks to all parishioners who have given of their time after Mass to sanitize the church building and to prepare it for the next use! As you know, we had to guarantee the Diocese that certain protocols would be in place in order to begin the public celebration of Mass again. I appreciate the dedication that has been shown to our parish. The Bishop’s dispensation from Sunday Mass attendance is still in force; however, I encourage one and all to participate at Mass if you are healthy and not at risk. Please note that the physical distancing requirement is still in place and that we are asked to wear masks in church. We have masks available, if you need one. Thank you.

Speaking of safety, the Diocese would like each parish to have at least one parishioner hold a Manager Food Safety Certification. The Diocese will sponsor the ServSafe course per iodically at Chr ist Our Shepherd Center, Greensburg, with a 12-person capacity for each course. These in-person trainings will be conducted by a certified ServSafe instructor. Anyone interested? I will be happy to give you more information regarding this certification.

Just a reminder to parents that we are now registering children for Faith Formation, scheduled to begin Monday, September 14. The registration form is on our webpage – if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us. Also, another reminder that parents should call Fr. Anthony for baptismal formation and instruction if they are expecting or already have a baby who needs to be baptized. Adults who are interested in becoming Catholic should also give Fr. Anthony a call. Couple who want to celebrate their marriage at Holy Trinity should call Fr. Anthony.

Our parish needs a few more parishioners to be collection counters on Sunday morning. Usually a parishioner counts once or twice a month. Might you be interested in this service to Holy Trinity Parish? Please let me know.

It was a little disappointing to postpone the new Parish Photo Directory, but I hope that you will want to be part of this when the Committee believes that it is the right time to do it. Covid 19 is taking a toll on a lot of things. I know that many are apprehensive about participating in any events and/or going outside of their home. Let’s pray for an end to the pandemic in order that peace of mind may be a reality for all of us. On the other hand, there is more to life than simply not getting sick. I hope that a balance will be restored to life. There is always some risk present in every situation.

GOD THE FATHER OF MERCIES, HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST, CRUCIFIED AND RISEN FROM THE DEAD, ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN, HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT, DESCENDING UPON US IN GLORY, HAVE MERCY ON US!

You are invited to attend a Priesthood Discernment Day to spend time with other young men your age who are considering the Lord’s call in their life. This event will include the opportunity to listen to seminarians share their story of God’s call, participate in Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, and time to enjoy the brotherhood with other young Catholic men. Priesthood Discernment Day will take place on July 27 at Christ Our Shepherd Center. If you are interested, please visit gbgvocations.org for more information and registration.

DON’T GET SCAMMED!

Scammers are out there and in some cases are now posing as priests and other clergy. You might receive and email or text that appears to be from your Pastor or another priest that you may know request-ing funds. You should be suspicious of any request for funds of any type via and email message, text and phone call too, Know that priests will NEVER ask for financial transactions via email, text or phone call. Know that any email from a priest should be from either a diocesan email or the email listed in the parish's bulletin. If you can’t find the email on the parish or dioc-esan website, it is probably a scam. Please carefully check the email address and verify any request with a call to the person supposedly sent it.

THE FORMED PROGRAM

Holy Trinity Parish subscribes to FORMED, an online platform providing access to Catholic programs, talks, audio dramas, movies and ebooks for children, teens and adults! All of our parishioners have free access to this program by registering at www.htligonier.formed.org. Flyers with instructions are available in the narthex. If you have any questions or need assistance in registering with the FORMED program, please call the office at 724-238-6434.
