The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre production of
July 28-August 12Set in New York City at the turn of the 20th century,
Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged
"newsies," who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But, when publishing titans
Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the
city to strike for what’s right. High-energy with non-stop thrills, the stage version introduces eight
brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman, while keeping many of the beloved
songs from the film, including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,”
“King of New York” and “Santa Fe.”
The stage version of
this cult movie is a
cheerful, old-fashioned
mix of a stirring story and a catchy
score.

Rock of Ages
It’s the tail-end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip's last legendary venues, a place where rock and roll sex god Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the
madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing.
Small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas, arrives with stars in her eyes too. A sweet romance begins, but the rock and roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans
to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri, and the gang save the Strip
before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake
and more holds the answer.
A seriously silly, absurdly enjoyable arena-rock musical

ELF - The Musical
November 3-18Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making
abilities force him to face the truth. With Santa's blessing, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn't even believe in Santa, Buddy is
determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace
their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
Welcome Yuletide!

The Wedding Gift
In the more innocent era of the early 1950’s, Arthur and Cynthia Ferguson and their daughter, Flossie, are
scam artists who move briefly from city to city targeting wealthy bachelors. It’s a happy heist that takes them into
the best homes and elegant country clubs. When their current scam runs amok it results in surprises, laughs,
and a very unusual wedding gift.
Civic patrons may remember seeing the 2013 winner of the Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival, The Wedding Gift, by Nancy Carlson Dodd. Since the success of that production
Nancy has gone back to her original vision of The Wedding Gift as a musical, working with professionals in Chicago and
New York to create the music and orchestrations. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to produce this new work on stage for the very first time, giving local actors the chance to
originate a role and allowing the creators to see their production fully realized. Nancy was also the winner of the 2010 festival
with her hit play The Ladies in Cabin 10.
A lighthearted, new musical comedy with outlandish characters you will never forget.
