Opening Hymn “Praise Him! Praise Him!”

Praise Him! praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!

Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!

Hail Him! hail Him! highest archangels in glory;

Strength and honor give to His holy name!

Like a shepherd Jesus will guard His children,

In His arms He carries them all day long:

Praise Him! praise Him! tell of His excellent greatness;

Praise Him! praise Him! ever in joyful song!

Praise Him! praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!

For our sins he suffered, bled and died;

He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,

Hail him! Hail him! Jesus the crucified.

Sound his praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows;

Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong:

Praise Him! praise Him! tell of His excellent greatness;

Praise Him! praise Him! ever in joyful song!

*Call to Worship (Matthew 11)

Leader: “Come to me,” Jesus invites.

People: We come to you.

Leader: “Come to me, if you are tired.”

People: We come to you.

Leader: “Come to me, if you carry burdens.”

People: We come to you.

Leader: “Come, and discover rest for your souls.”

Prayer of Invocation (Genesis 24, Romans 7)

All: Like an oasis in the desert, worship satisfies our sin-besieged

souls. Holy One, help us find the good in this life by delighting

in your presence, and help us find the hope you have placed in

our innermost selves. Now let us pray the way our Savior taught

us . . .

The Lord’s Prayer…Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our debts, As we

forgive our debtors; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver

us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the

glory forever. Amen.

Scripture Song of Solomon 2:8-13

Sermon “How Solomon Describes Love” Rev. Mark Katrick

Communion Prayer of Confession

All: Wise and loving God, you know how we are. We have spent so

much time getting ready for the summer months, planning when

and how we shall relax and gain some peace in our lives. We have

rushed around, and now we are exhausted. Our need for rest is so

important, but we have let plans and schedules crowd in, shouting

their demands on our time and energies. Forgive us, Lord, when

we have focused so much time on these things and have not sought

your healing, restoring love. Be with us as we enter into this

summer period. Give us peace. For we ask these things in Jesus’

Name. AMEN.

Words of Assurance

Pastor: Come to the Lord, all of you. There is healing and rest in the Lord.

You are given love and peace by God for all of your days. AMEN.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

All: Loving God, we thank you that you have fed us in this sacrament,

united us with Christ, and given us a foretaste of the heavenly

banquet in your eternal realm. Send us out in the power of your

Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory, for the sake of

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Offering Prayer (Genesis 24)

All: Gracious and Giving God, may the love of Isaac for Rebekah;

may the love of Rebekah for Isaac, be present in our offerings

this day— offerings of our lives and possessions freely given.

May we be found faithful with the many gifts you have given us.

Amen.

Closing Hymn “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us”

Savior, like a shepherd lead us,

Much we need Thy tender care;

In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,

for our use Thy folds prepare:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

thou hast bought us, Thine we are;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

Thou hast bought us, thine we are.

We are thine; do thou befriend us;

be the guardian of our way;

Keep thy flock; from sin defend us;

seek us when we go astray.

Blessed Jesus blessed Jesus,

Hear O hear us when we pray;

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,

Hear O hear us when we pray.

Benediction

Our church website is currently in the first phase of an update. The site is now

available at https://stjohnsnewark.org , which is a secure website. You may have

to change your favorites and resave the secure site. We are in the process of

automatically directing all users from the old website to the new one. The next

phase will be to update and change the look of our website.

An indoor service will be offered at 9:15 a.m. beginning on July 5, 2020 for

those interested in worshiping in the sanctuary. We recommend attendees

to wear a mask. Self-distancing rules will apply. We will be continuing to

hold our 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. as outdoor drive-in services.

Please Note:

To all members that are currently listed on the greeter, usher, liturgist rotation

You will not need to serve until the time we can have indoor services again. If

you are listed to serve as an usher and feel safe to do the drive-in services, please

call Frank Davis at 740-323-2160 for information. Thank you!

St. John’s Tower Bells We have reached one third of our goal of $35,000 to refurbish the three historic

bells in the tower of our church. Thanks to everyone for their continued support

of this fund as we continue to receive funds every week.

These bells are an important part of the history of St. John’s and exposure to the

elements for the past 147 years has taken a toll on the bell stands, bearings,

supporting bolts and major parts of the clapper assemblies. The bells themselves

are in excellent condition but a failure of the supporting components could cause

them to be damaged.

We had hoped to have them refurbished this fall. After talking with Verdin Bell

Co., they require at least 3 months lead time and 50% down payment to custom

manufacture the needed parts to complete the restoration. We don’t feel we

would be able to have the funds to make this happen this year. It is out hope that

with your continued support we will be able to have this done next year.

Once again, we thank you for your continued support of this much needed

project.

*Opening Hymn “America the Beautiful”

O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!

America! America! God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years,

Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears!
