State AGs Bash Sat Merger While members of Congress pepper FCC Chairman Kevin Martin with pleas to institute and enforce stiff conditions on the proposed XM/Sirius merger or reject it outright, the Attorneys General of Tennessee and Connecticut, joined by staff of AGs in 12 more states, teleconferenced with Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate July 1 to convey similar positions. Tate is thought to be the swing vote among the five commissioners. Other states participating in the ex-

My Tunes: Music ThaT shaped My Life

WGAR/Cleveland PD Brian Jennings discusses his most meaningful songs, albums or concerts:1. Reba’s 1995 Tour: The full costume changes, the amazing special effects. Possibly the only tour to rival Garth.2. Tracy Lawrence/Today’s Lonely Fool: The combination of fiddle and piano in that song tears my heart out every time.

3. Merle Haggard/What Am I Gonna Do (With The Rest Of My Life): It’s easy to drink away the loss of a woman for one night. But trying to figure out what you’ll do after that is the scary part. One of The Hag’s greatest ever!4. David Ball/When The Thought Of You Catches Up With Me: The lonely voice, the killer strings and one of the best written songs of the ‘90s.5. Allison Moorer, Miss Fortune: She was one of country’s greatest undiscovered gems before she moved on to Triple A. This album was as good as anything released mainstream that year.• A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard: Red-Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson. I’m ashamed to admit it. Everyone says it’s one of the greatest concept albums ever.• An “important” piece of music you just don’t get: Coldplay. My wife thinks they’re great. I think they’re poop.• An album you played or listened to incessantly: David Ball’s Amigo. The album scanned a few hundred thousand units because of “Riding With Private Malone.” But the rest of the album is so much better. He does everything from western swing to blues. I still pull that one out every month or so as it’s probably one of the 10 greatest country projects of this decade. If you’ve got a copy in the station somewhere, go back and let it play while you’re working. David Ball’s a genius.

Life’s A Beach: BNA’s Kenny Chesney celebrated the midpoint of his Poets & Pirates tour at Nashville’s LP Field Saturday night. The industry heavy crowd, and 50,000 of their drunkest friends, saw performances from Gary Allan, LeAnn Rimes, Sammy Hagar and Keith Urban, capped by Chesney’s thoroughly entertaining closing set. Pictured with him at the show (l-r) are manager Clint Higham, Sony BMG/Nashville Chairman Joe Galante and manager Dale Morris.
