Hello again to your Clwyd Connection. Last month it was Denbigh that held it’s carnival which was a very successful event. Well done to the organisers. This month it’s a very busy month for the Ruthin area. As you read this, the week long “Ruthin Festival” will be in full swing, culminating with “Top of Town” on Saturday 5th July. If you are looking for something for the little ones, on that same Saturday there is also a family fun day taking place at the Llanfwrog Community Centre. No mention of forthcoming events would be complete without also mentioning the very popular “Graigaid” music festival at the end of July. Coming in August is also the Ruthin Carnival and procession Details of these events and others can be found in the pages of this magazine. Don’t forget, if you are helping to organise any local events across Denbighshire, please let me know about them - I want to help you promote them. Anything from school / village fetes to carnivals, shows etc. The deadline for inclusion is the 20th of each month. Hope you have a great July and if you’re going on holiday, there are some tips on page 32 that might help. Trevor Arnold Editor Tel 01824 707 013

Sir Edward Grey, Foreign Secretary, uttered these words on the eve of Britain officially entered the First World War. Exactly 100 years later we are inviting millions of individuals, households and companies to join together in a national moment of reflection. We're encouraging everyone in the UK to turn off their lights between 10pm and 11pm on 4 August 2014 – leaving only a single light or candle for this symbolic act of reflection and hope.

On that night we will remember more than a million Commonwealth Service personnel who lost their lives in the First World War.

We hope to light one million candles across the UK to remember each and every one of those Service men and women who gave their lives in the war to end all wars. Please join together with us to create a unique national moment for the United Kingdom and The Royal British Legion.

To help organise a commemorative event in your local community, download our LIGHTS OUT poster (PDF 1.9Mb). at www.1418now.org.uk/whats-on/lights-out A Welsh version is also available.

A limited edition Centenary candle will be available from M&S stores from 4 July 2014 for £4, with all profit going to The Royal British Legion.

There will be a special event at the top of Moel Famau. Registration is online Please visit: http://www.expeditionwise.com/index.php/lights-out-moel-famau-ch246

LIGHTS OUT is a headline project of the cultural programme 14-18 NOW and was initiated by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport; 14-18 NOW is a curated programme of new art works across the UK that forms part of the official commemorations of the Centenary of the First World War.
