Create your very own Makers Mark treasure box inspired by Aberdeen

Art Gallery and Museums Makers Mark Treasure Box.

Aberdeen City Council’s Creative Learning Team have come up with some ideas to

support you in creating your own At Home Makers Mark Treasure Box items.

Silver City Seal

Use the picture frame on the next page to design your own Makers Mark

ID: Think about where you live, your name, important dates, personality

traits, hobbies, favourite things.

Make an information label to accompany

your design.

For example:

What: A silver oval shaped seal depicting

maker Alison Black

When: June 2020

Where: Aberdeen City Centre

Why: Used to stamp and acknowledge

receipt of home delivery during lockdown.

Seal confirms identification of person

delivery was sent to depicting home, name

and age.

In this section Aberdeen City Libraries use images from their collection to look back into the city’s past. For this first edition, the focus is on some of Aberdeen’s best loved parks.

Victoria Park was Aberdeen’s first public park. It was developed by the Town Council between 1871 and 1873. This early 20th century colourised postcard shows the fountain at the centre of the park. The fountain was designed by J.B. Pirie and built of 14 different types of granite. It was presented to the park by the master masons of Aberdeen and completed in 1881.

Union Terrace Gardens was the second of Aberdeen’s public parks to open. Unlike Victoria Park, it had an official opening and this took place on 11th August 1879. Over the years UTG has played host to a wide variety of entertainment and festivals. This image shows a well-attended evening performance of country dancing during the late 1970s. The Belmont Cinema and Belmont Congregational Church are visible in the background. The park is also known for its attractive floral displays. It is currently under redevelopment and due to reopen in 2021.

shmuFM is presented entirely by volunteers and they have carried on

recording their shows from home. We can't fit in the whole schedule here so

we are highlighting different shows and presenters in each edition.

Listen Live at shmuFM 99.8fm

Tuesdays

Musical Memories - 2pm – Dave White

Dave started this show to help bring the more genteel people in our areas

into the frame especially those in care homes, sheltered accommodation,

and day centres also for anyone of this age group at home. Based on

requests, we try to have a different care home each week and a visit to take

part in the show is always welcome

Requests are welcome and if you know of a facility that could benefit from

being involved please email [email protected]

Wednesdays

The Wednesday Session – 3pm – Colin Edwards

Jointly hosted by local musicians, bringing you the best of traditional and

contemporary folk music. The programme will include music and songs

from the traditions of Scotland, England, Ireland, and also much further

afield. We will keep you informed about local events, and occasionally have

live guests in the studio to talk about their music. Look up The Wednesday

Session at SHMU on Facebook.
