JULY PROJECTS/EVENTS

July events included Summer Celebration with the Streamwood Parade and the Chamber Business Tent. Four board members road in Khaja Moinuddin’s Lexis convertible as they were unable to rent one. Staff pushed carts decorated for the 50th anniversary of the fire department, and the van was also driven in the parade. Teen volunteers gave out candy and we had a dog decorated as a fire dog. The rest of the weekend we had staff and board members tend the business tent table where literature and small prizes were handed out to publicize the library. The Paver fund raising project was pushed and a raffle basket gathered email addresses from those that wish to receive e-notices of programs. Our annual Summer Reading Challenge ended July 31st. This year the theme was, “Reading: the True Superpower”. We had record participation for all three reading levels, adult, teen and children. Work has already begun on the next Winter Reading Challenge. The Hanover Park Cops Day Picnic was held on Friday, July 12th 2019. This event has been held at the same location for several years, the goal is to foster healthy and close relationships between the Police Department and the community it serves. The organization and planning, although a bit more complex, ended up being more helpful for all the exhibitors. With tables already set-up and waiting for us, we were ready to start the event upon arrival. A lot of fun and informative displays happened throughout the event, such as: Emergency Vehicle display, K9 Demonstrations, Community Resources, and a raffle of: a bicycle, TV, Boomers tickets, and other prizes. There was also music, dancing, face painting and mascots visiting with kids. Staffed by Steven, Blanca and Estrella. – Contributed by Blanca Food for Fines ran from July 1st through the 14th. Main waived $541.70 in fines and collected 643 food items. 90 of the 643 items were donations. – Contributed by Peggy Maiken

Teen Services Department – Hannah Sloan

• Heidi set up the passive program for the month and the monthly calendar • Haley’s word a day is still ongoing • Sewing program this month had a full wait list so we had all 8 at the program with the instructor

bringing in a machine, using my machine, and using the two circing machines on top of the 3 we have in the studio, we were only one machine shy of having enough for everyone. However, the program was making lanyards so everyone was able to make at least two things in the 2 hours we had. Pictures below! We did buy 3 more sewing machines (at a major discount price) for the sewing programs to be housed in TEEN

• Tom and Hannah are working on putting together a video booktalk to the middle schools for the start of the school year to be used as needed by classes.

• We interviewed for the 15 hour position
