Hard Work and Dedication Pays Off
By: Shylae Stringer
You thought you’d never make it? But you’re here! You got past key-
boarding and managed to find your scotomas. Faced with the chal-
lenges of crunch time during midterms, to externship’s long hours,
your dedication has paid off. It’s graduation time! So slip on that
black robe and walk with your head high and put on that smile that
says I finally did it! Graduation is not only a symbol of accomplish-
ment but it shows that through all the struggles there can be suc-
cess. What you hold in your hands is just the first step to bigger and
better things. Continue to reach for the stars while working hard and
staying dedicated to your goals. Your success started here, so con-
tinue to follow the path. Congratulations to all the graduates and fu-
ture graduates of Virginia College.
A total of 137 students marched
across the stage at the Bell Audi-

Love Beat
Crystal Monique Jenkins
Your love is so powerful
Everyone around us can see
Baby I have your love all over me
You have me love beat
You fuss I fuss it is what we do
But at the end of the day it is ba-by I love you
You may call our love growing
apart
Well baby our relationship is only
just a start
At the end of the day people will
talk
But baby it’s our relationship just
turn away and walk
At the end of the day we may grow tired of this
But trust me baby I will not leave you standing in the mist
Our love is so high, so passionate,
so sweet
We may have our downfalls
But love can and will beat
I will fight for our love
Even if it takes all day
Just to make sure you are happy
so you will stay
The streets may find our relation-ship tacky
But I find it romantic and so neat
We are going to fight for our love
Because love has us beat.

Career Services Week kicked off on July 5th with a jam packed week of
events and workshops. The Career Services Team started with a Volun-
teer Day where the Cosmo Students worked hard to ensure the event’s
success. The wins did not stop there but continued on during the week
with Eat Right Trivia and a fruit social. These events were followed with
a fashion show of what to wear to ensure your success as well as what
NOT to wear. The final event of the week ended with a job fair with lo-
cal hiring managers presently looking for good workers.
A special thank you to Terri Gant, Darnell Holston & Rosalyn Holliday for
going the extra mile.

Q: How do I stand out in my job search?
At a recent local job fair that I attended (no, I'm not looking for another job!) I
observed that the job candidate competition is intense. Here are a few tips to rise
above other job candidates.
Keep Commitments. Both to yourself and to others. Improve your first impres-
sion to others. Your appearance, attitude, manners and smile are always on dis-
play. You only have one chance to make a good first impression.
Be "Reachable". Answer your phone (when out of class, of course) and read
your email daily. By the way, be sure to change your phone ring tone to one that
is professional (avoid music, crude language and anything else that would not im-
press a potential employer).
Prepare for your Externship. Attend all preparatory meetings, get your immun-
izations as scheduled, ensure all personal legal entanglements are taken care of
and eliminate all illegal drug use NOW!

June’s Quote:
There is a good reason they call these ceremonies “commencement exer-
cises.” Graduation is not the end, it is only the beginning. –Orin Hatch
Classmates;
This quote means that through all the hard times that we have been through to get
to the end, one goal is over and now it’s time for a new start. At times, it seemed
as though the end would never come, but you have made it. This self-set challenge
is over and it is time to accept the new challenges that lie ahead. It doesn’t matter
how big the goal or how big the obstacles, we got through this. Whenever you
think you can’t do it, just look back and remember the major challenges that you
have accomplished. –Darryl Demmons
Here is the quote for July: Action may not always bring happiness; but there is
no happiness without action - Benjamin Disraeli
All essays must be less than 150 words and submitted via email to
[email protected] no later than the 15th
of each month.
This month’s winner is Darryl Demmons. Your essay on June’s Quotable Quote
was a winner! You have earned a VC Tote Bag.

Scrubs arrive weekly for new students. Please check the bulletin board across from
Ms. Cole’s office in Room 170. All Summer Quarter externs should have already or-
