April - June 2018 Achievements

Lewisham Biodiversity partners carried out 978 events (325 environmental education, 513 volunteering events and 140 walks and presentations). The engaged people and nature conservation volunteers carried out 6393 hours work worth over this quarter!

The 10th anniversary “3 Rivers-Clean-Up” helps deliver a record 15,849 hours’ worth of nature conservation volunteer work in the last 3 months amounting to £154,527

Lewisham achieves 5 Green Flag Community Awards on its Nature Reserves

Kingfishers successfully breed in artificial nest bank created on the River Ravensbourne for the first time.

July - September 2018 Achievements

Lewisham Biodiversity partners carried out 515 events (96 environmental education, 318 volunteering events and 101 walks and presentations). 4515 adults and 3027 children were engaged in activities in this quarter.

Lewisham Parks on-line survey beats all other Council consultations with 806 respondents

Tawny owl recorded at Brockley & Ladywell Cemeteries and a Sparrowhawk seen hunting in Ladywell Fields

Nature Conservation volunteers clock up 7,884 hours of work in the last quarter- equivalent to £76,869 [London living wage]

Butterfly surveys at Brockley & Ladywell Cemeteries records over 1,000 butterflies, almost twice as many as in the previous 2 years, with 12 species being seen in one day

Lewisham Biodiversity Partners runs 479 events to give over 7,384 people an experience of nature

In the last quarter new developments have installed 7,288m2 of living roofs which is just less than the size of two football pitches

October – December 2018 Achievements

Lewisham Biodiversity partners carried out 438 events (160 environmental education, 215 volunteering events and 63 walks and presentations). 5252 adults and 5682 children were engaged in activities in this quarter.

Lewisham habitat survey recommends upgrading Ladywell Fields, Bridgehouse Meadows, Creekside Discovery Centre and Manor Park to Borough significance reducing the ‘Area of Deficiency’ for accessible wildlife sites by 182.6ha
