ANONYMOUS GIFT IN MEM-ORY OF A LOVED ONE!

This gift ( anonymous) is in memo-ry of 2 relatives ( in-law side) of our

    family.

Job 1:21-22And said, Naked came I out of my mothers womb, and naked shall I return thither: the

Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

What is it about Job that makes us think we cannot compare ourselves to his troubles? Was it because God said he was a perfect, an upright man, who feared God and hated evil! Do we feel like we cannot claim those characteristics for ourselves? This book was not written only for those who fit Jobs character, but for all of us who are servants of God. God used a man without spot so we could see that trouble comes to all, even Job! When troubles come to us, our first thought is, What did I do to deserve this? God is telling us with Jobs story that there are times that we might not be the cause of our troubles. It could be that God is calling us to show the greatness of His work through our lives. Satan doesnt think that we believers will allow God to do things in our lives that we do not understand. Satan is out to show our deficiencies in our faith. He wants to reveal how small our faith is and how soon we will depart from it. God then entrust us with testing to reveal the power of our faith to Satan and to the whole world.

Job goes materially bankrupt to start with. At the time of being reduced to nothing materially, he looses his children and many of his servants. Job be-lieved that everything in his hands, his material goods and the children he had produced, were from the hand of God. God had given them and God had the right to take them away. That didnt mean that Job did not suffer with these loses, it meant he accepted it as the work of God and he trusted God to be righteous in all His works.

What about us? Daily we are either gaining material goods or we are loosing material goods. Most of us never come to full loss, but we deal with par-tial losses daily. Gloria and I went to a Cowboy Camp meeting this week. We felt sure that God had spoken that we were to be there this year. God did not provide the money for gas until the night before. We laughed and rejoiced at the way God provided, and then about half way to the camp the next day, our car began (Continued on page 2)

(Continued from page 8) Thomas Jefferson knew be-cause he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, His laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future: John F. Kennedy held a din-ner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made these statements: This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the ex-ception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone. When we get piled uponone another in large cities, as in Eu-rope, we shall become as corrupt as Europe. Thedemocracywillceasetoexist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. It is incumbent on everygeneration to pay its own debts as it goes. JOB

  • 2missing and we had to turn around and drive back home to get our other car. While rejoicing over one provision, another major need comes on the scene. That is Satans way of attempting to destroy our joy and bring us back to worry and anxiousness. You would think our first thought would be to remember just how God had provided the night before. His provision the day before should encour-age us that God will be there for all our needs today. Job believed this and will-ingly excepted Gods work in his life.

Job 2:4-6 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will

    he give for his life.Butputforththinehandnow,andtouchhisboneandhisflesh,andhewillcurse

thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

    KJV

Now we come to another testing. Its one thing to lose all your material goods, but what about your health, which threatens your life? Satan told God, Job will curse you to your face if you let me touch his skin and bones. So God took the challenge and allowed Satan to go further, but he could not kill Job.

Job wished he could die. Dying would have been much easier than living at that point. But God continued to give him life. His wife told him that the only way she knew to get him out of this pain was to just curse God and let God kill him. Why hold on to your integrity at this point? Job said, You speak like one of the foolish women. That was foolish talk to Job, because he believed his life was in Gods hand and it was Gods right to decide when he should live or die.

There are many people committing suicide today because of not wanting to live the life they have created, or the life God has called them to walk. Many suicide victims claim to believe and trust in God, yet they take the position of God and take their own lives. Many of the men of God in the Bible begged God to take their lives, but they never spoke of taking their own lives. There was one man who knew that God had allowed his counsel to fail and that soon he would die at the hands of the king. He went home and got his house in order and set it on fire. Taking our own lives is the height of playing God in our lives and playing God is what gets us in trouble.

Job never turned on God. His three friends stopped what they were do-ing and made an appointment to come and mourn and comfort Job. How many friends do you have like that? They didnt even recognize Job when they got there. For seven days they all sat in ashes and didnt say a word. Wow! Not sure I have a friend that could do that! Im not sure I could be quiet for seven days. As long as they were quiet, the three friends were accomplishing what they came to do. It wasnt until Job opened his mouth that the opinions began to fly. Once we share our troubles out loud we might as well expecte our friends to put their two cents worth in. After all, why tell someone if you dont want their opinion?

Yes, there are two places were Satan tries our faith. That is the works of our hands and our health. This is what our lives are all about. Who wants to see everything you have worked for fall apart? How many of us struggle with putting

our life before our worship. The hard-est thing we do is lay down our lives on the altar and let God have His way.

You see, Jobs trials were not so different from our trials. The dif-ference is, Job did not depart from his faith. Job would not curse God and die, but instead he cursed the day he was born! Job kept trying to justify himself because he couldnt see anything he had done to call for these trials. Every time we attempt to toot our own horn all of our short comings begin to stand out. His friends tried to point out his possible failures so they could come up with a reason why God had allowed all of this. They believed you had to have done something wrong before you could go through testing. That might have been what we believe if we had not read the book of Job!

While they had some very in-teresting discussions, they didnt solve a thing. I think about all the talk shows we have today. Everyone wants to give their opinion and we all want to evalu-ate their comments. In the end, our problems still exist and our friends can-not solve them. We have lots of truths to speak about, but if God doesnt bring deliverance, we are stranded! Some-times I wish God would start talking to the people on the talk shows like He did to Job. America needs to hear from God today.

I dont know where you are in life today, but if you are not being tested, you will be. The trying of our faith is more precious than gold! God is doing us a favour by testing our faith. While testing our faith He will only do that which is good for us. You may ask, What is good about loosing your chil-dren. We dont lose our children. God changed where they live. We only lose the privilege of being with them daily here on earth. All of us will die. When and how is up to God and He only does that which is good for the one He is tak-ing and those left behind. One day we will understand and say, Well done! ----Jerry Brewster

THE MOST UNUSUAL WORK OF GOD

  • 3MULTIPLYING OF THE FOOD!2 Kings 4:42-44

And there came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God breadofthefirstfruits, twentyloavesofbarley, andfullearsofcorninthe

husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He

said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the Lord, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.

So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the Lord.

This story reminds us of the feeding of the people in the New Testament. Its a real miracle when God multiplies our goods. It amazes me, when I do what God tells me to do, how He makes my dollars go a mile down the road, but when I forget to seek His will and His way, I dont seem to get out of the driveway before my dollar is spent. When we were raising our house full of children, many times we came to the last of our supplies the day before our money would come in. We never went without! We learned to live with whatever was available to us. We always lived our days to the fullest and trusted God to be there tomorrow with the goods for that day. My sister was petrified that I would leave town and drive a hundred miles with just one dime in my pocket. I told her, if I waited for money I would never get to go. We lived a full life, believing God would always provide, and He did! Many years ago, when our boys were pre-teens and our foster girls were teenagers, we saw God do for us what He did for Elisha that day. Jerry had been having lung problems and was in bed struggling to breathe. We had been to the doctor several times that week and had spent everything we had (we never used charge cards). I had enough money to buy two chickens for lunch, which would give me 16 pieces of chicken. There were seven of us and that would give everyone two pieces each, with two left over. I didnt have any potatoes, but I had green beans and pickled okra. It wasnt much of a meal but it was sufficient. I put barbecue on the chicken and cooked it in the oven. I didnt know what we would have for supper, but I could worry about that later in the day. After Sunday school, one of the boys in the class said, My folks are out of town, could I go home with you today? What do you say? I said, Sure, we would love to have you. My thoughts were, he could have the two extra pieces of chicken. A few minutes later another boy came up and said, I heard so and so is going to your house for lunch today. Can I come too? Again I said, Sure, we would love to have you. My thoughts were, he could have my two pieces of chicken and I would sacrifice. By the time church was over there were four col-lege kids coming to our house for lunch. I didnt know what I was going to do. It was just happening. They all got in the car with me and I had one other girl in the car that I had to take home. It dawned on me as I was driving, that everyone in the car was talking about coming to our house and this girl was the only one who had not been invited. The Holy Spirit said, Gloria, everyone else is coming, dont you think it would only be right to invite her? My response was, Invite one more! I dont know how I am going to feed these. But I knew God wanted me to invite this girl. About a block from her house I got the courage to ask, hoping she would say no thank you. Her response was, I would love to come to your house for lunch. We had a party at my house last night and we had left over potatoe salad, tossed salad & rolls.

If you can take me to my house Ill pick them up. I said, I can take you!!! It was just what I needed to put with the chicken, but there still wasnt enough chicken. What if I hadnt listened to the Holy Spirit and had not invited that young lady? Jerry was too sick to come to the table, so I took him his portion and the rest of us gathered at the table. When I prayed for the food that day I asked the Lord to make the food suf-ficient. Everyone ate until they were full and when I cleared the table I had left over chicken on the plate. We ate the left over for supper that night and it was sufficient. I never thought about it that day, but I should have counted the chicken bones. I know that the Lord multiplied my chicken that day. I know how Elisha felt. God has done His work at my table also! How often do we just panic when we should just stand still and see the salvation of the Lord?

P.S. I must add this! I stopped to go into the house for something and my cousin told me she had gotten the mail. So, I stopped to look at the mail before returning to the paper. In the mail was a check from the IRS. It was a refund. Jerry had paid when we did not owe. We still dont know how they came to that conclusion, but they sent back ev-erything we had paid. We have three major needs right now and this check will take care of all three. We were to leave for a meeting 200 miles away in the morning. We didnt have the gas but we still planned to leave. Jerry does not have the strength to raise the shop door (it is a large heavy door) and we need a garage opener for him. This check will do that. Next month we need to make a trip to Georgia and this will take care of our gas for the trip. I never expected God to use the IRS to bless us!!! Do you have a need today? Run to God and talk your heart out. Then listen and see what He has to say to you. He truly delights in meeting our needs. ----Gloria Brewster

    I N S P I R A T I O N S

    By Gloria Brewster

I have just recently read through the book of Esther for maybe some-where around the 70th time. I never cease to be amazed at how you can never see all that the Word of God has to reveal to you. This book is alive and you can never finish reading it!

Ive heard many things taught about Esther, but I want to think about the way Vashti, Esther and Zerresh were used in different ways. The three men were Ahasuerus, Mordecai and Haman. This book is an excellent book to show how God works in the lives of man kind, yet there is no mention of God in the book. His work is obvious, but He is not called by name.

There is a power at work in this book and it is the power of the king. All things must be accomplished through the authority in order to do it Gods way. God has ordained the authority structure as we read in Romans chapter thirteen. The authority in this case is not a God fearing man. In all the work that involved the king, we have no indication that he ever considered God in any of his com-mands. His authority came from his position, not his character.

It PLEASED the king to show off Vashtis beauty. Many claim he was asking her to be immoral, but we do not have that written in scripture at all. The story is pointing out her disobedience to the kings command. What God is show-ing us in the book of Esther is how to work with a king and how not to work with a king. Remember, Jesus is King of Kings and we daily are to do our work through His authority in our lives. Its important to know how to approach a king. Also, your husband is the king of your home. We can learn much in this book about how to serve our husbands.

Vashti had her own agenda for the day and did not want to leave it in or-der to PLEASE the king. If she had any moral objections, they are not written in scripture. I have always wondered why the king sent seven men to get one lady! Either that was to show how important the command was, or he thought it would take seven men to convince her to obey!!! Vashti did not have a biblical reason for ignoring the kings command. She just didnt want to go. Vashti was out to PLEASE herself, not the king. Now there is anger in the kingdom and the kings anger stirred everyone. Her actions effected the whole kingdom. The other

women were with her and saw what she did. If she could get away with telling the king no, then they would follow her actions. Our actions never effect only ourselves. We have no record that Vashti stopped and considered whether her actions were right or wrong. We have no record that she consulted any-one but her own heart. She did as she PLEASED and it did not PLEASE the king. She lost her honor, she lost her crown and she lost her ability to come before the king when she had a need. Vashti disobeyed the king and it cost her greatly. She got her own way, but the way was not what she thought it would be.

Prov 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right

unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Vashtis action opened up the door for Esther to have a great position with the king. Esther benefited from Vashtis actions, now what would Es-ther do with the opportunity that was granted to her?

The king gave another com-mandment. He commanded that every one bow and do honor to Haman when he passed by. Mordecai disobeyed the kings command also. Mordecai had a biblical reason for not complying with the commandment of the king. Haman was of the family that God said for the Jews not to honor. Also Mordecai re-served these honors for God only and not man. He would bow to his author-ity but not to man. The end results of Mordecais disobeying ended in vic-tory and highest honor for him and his people. Oh, it caused a great stir and scared everyone to death for a time, but it was a worthy stand and God honored him.

I heard a wonderful sermon this week about obeying righteous commandments and how to refuse un-righteous commandments. We must (Continued on page 6)

THREE WOMEN AND THREE MENS RESPONSE TO AUTHORITY

  • 5 Our sons are giving their lives to fight for our freedoms while our country is turning away from God, who is our deliverer and our savior. America turned her back on God when she took prayer out of our class rooms and eventually from our service men. God clearly tells us what to do to get help in time of need.

2 Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then

will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. After we turned from prayer, we then turned to killing our unborn children. We have killed millions of babies in America and God will not hold us guiltless when their blood cries out to Him.

Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth mans blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

After giving up prayer and killing our unborn children our country then attempts to get rid of the Ten Commandments. Our country lives by situational ethics. We no longer respect law.

    Ps 119:1Blessedaretheundefiledintheway,whowalkinthelawoftheLord.

Now our supreme court has ruled that same sex marriage is legal and every state must accept the ruling. God is very clear in His Word about how He feels about what we are doing. • 6consider if it is a just and righteous command, and if it is, we are to comply. Should it be unjust or unrighteous, we are to first stand for that which is right, then keep a right spirit and honor toward the authority that gave the command. Next, be prepared to suffer the consequences that the authority will place upon you. We are to suffer for righteousness sake, but we are not called to make sure the authority suffers. Thats Gods business, seeing He has told us, Vengeance is mine, thus saith the Lord.

We have Vashti who disobeyed and her honor was destroyed. We have Mordecai who disobeyed and ended in honor and victory. Now let us look at Zer-resh, Hamans wife, and how she responded to her authority. Haman came home bragging to his wife and friends, about what a good man he was. His greatest victory was being invited to the Queens banquet, but then that horrible Mordecai was in his way of really enjoying himself. Zerresh encouraged him to do evil by suggesting he build a gallows and hang that man. He took her advice and that was the very thing he was hung upon in the end. I hate to see women who just say, Whatever you say dear, and they do no thinking for themselves! We, as women have an obligation to God, to ourselves and to those we serve, to THINK about what we do or say. You cannot be a help meet if you do not know how to help. To help is to point one in the right direction. We have no record of Haman or Zerresh seeking any advice from anyone but their own selves. They did what-ever PLEASED them. Their own selfish way ended just like Vashti, in death to their dreams. Oh, we may not die physically like Haman and his family, but our dreams die when we leave God out of the decisions of our lives.

But then we have Esther! Esther found favor with all who knew her. She was beautiful because she acted beautiful. Those who served her, loved her. She never stopped treating Mordecai with the respect his position required. The first thing she did when she realized that she was in a hard place was to call for fasting and prayer. She could not attempt the job she had been given unless God and His grace were upon her life and she could know that she had obtained His favor by seeking His face. She needed the work of God done in the king before she ap-proached him! Esther realized she was only the vessel through which God would work. She was not the power! Actually, Esther also defied the kings command-ment. She approached without being called, which was against the law. There was an exception to the law. If the king wanted to, he could approve her by rais-ing the scepter and giving her the right to approach. She was taking a risk to her life, but it was important enough to do so. You want to make sure that when you push against the kings law your problem is life threatening. She said had they just been placed in bondage she would not have approached him.

Instantly the kings heart was touched for Esther and before she could even ask he promised her up to half of the kingdom! What a good beginning. Esther was wise enough to know that she needed the kings heart as well as his permission, so she gave God time to do a work in his heart that would prepare him for her request. Haman had been humbled before she even spoke her request. After the king gave Esther the house of Haman and the ring to write a new law, she would need the kings heart once more before it was over. In chapter nine, verse twenty nine, it says that Esther wrote with all authority. The kingdom was i

in Esthers hands because she PLEASED the king!

Haman set out to use the kings power for his own agenda. When you use the power to hurt and destroy just remember that same power can be used by others to destroy you! What goes around comes around.

The theme of this book could be Who do you live to PLEASE? Your-self or God! Everything seems right in our eyes until we weigh it against Gods way. Esther and Mordecai sought God and they ended in victory and total freedom to work their will through an ungodly king. The reason everything falls in around us is because of a lack of respect for our authority and a lack of seeking Gods deliverance. You will not end up being PLEASED with your life if you continue living to PLEASE yourself!

There is great honor to the per-sons who will do their work through the person of God. Esther is still be-ing celebrated today by the Jews. Her work will never be forgotten.

God is looking for Esthers to-day. What was it Jesus said to every-one in the New Testament? Wasnt it, Follow Me? You cant follow some-one until you get behind them.

Oh to be like Esther, a little or-phan girl who lived to obey God and please others.

GODS WAYI want Gods way, to be my way,

As I travel here below. For there is no another highwayThat a child of God should know

Though the way be long and rough,If He leads me tis enough.

I want Gods way, to be my wayEvery day.

    TID BITS MONTHLY REPORT

These days are quite a change to our lives, but as always, when God walks with you the walk is full of His goodness. Enoch had it made. He walked with God and was not. Wouldnt that be a nice way to go.

My health is a touchy thing. I have many good days, but every few days my heart rate drops to dangerous levels and my blood presure will not stablize. There is not anything that can be done for this because I have a very tired heart. So, we do not run back and forth to the hospital, we just take a step at a time and keep going. We are not worried by the threat of death. That has all been taken care of by the Lord Jesus Christ. We do not sit around waiting for trouble, we look to see what blessings we will receive today. This is the day the Lord has made. We will be glad and rejoice in it. Tomorrow we drive 200 miles to go to the Cowboy Camp Meeting that the Havens started 49 years ago. It will be hot so we will only stay two days.

Words will never express our appreciation for all who have supported us with love gifts these last 9 months. Every time there has been a need, there has been a love gift that would cover that need. We still have a need that we are hold-ing before the Lord and we believe He will deliver that need in time to come also. Right now He is meeting our daily needs and that is according to His promise.

I have not been able to apply myself to work in Wonderful Word while pastoring, but hope to dig into the work now. The printed Word is very impor-tant and there is much left to do when it comes to getting the gospel to the lost. Our son and his wife are in Africa at this time giving the gospel to the lost. Our granddaughter married a young preacher two weeks ago and they are excited about serving the Lord together. All of our grandchildren are being raised to share the gospel wherever God puts them. Our children have a love for others and are instilling that love into their children. What a joy to see God at work in the lives of our family. We have our problems just like everyone does, but by the grace of God we are committed to seeking God for our solutions.
