LET US PRAY FOR THE SICK

    PEACE

slightly. Paul writes of thepeace and mercy on allwho are created anew. Jesusdescribes a feeling of peacethat will rest on those whoaccept his disciples and their

message.Peace is both an absenceof strife and a personalblessing. May we alwaysand sincerely bring peace toour own lives as we share itwith others.

The greeting of peace atMass adds substance to amessage of todays read-ings: peace is relational. When we greet in peace theperson near us at Mass, we

share the touch of a hand-shake or embrace, sincereeye contact, and friendlywords.

The scriptures speak ofa similar peace. The firstreading from Isaiah de-scribes the peace of the holycity, Jerusalem, a place ofprosperity and comfortwhere the LORDs power

shall be known to his ser-vants (Isaiah 66:14c).The Christian under-

    standing of peace changes

    From the Pastors Desk

dunk. Christening is an Old Englishword that describes perfectly wellthat more than getting splashed withwater, the person being baptized is

being Christ-ed. No matter whatyou call it, theres always water in-volved, and then an anointing withchrismfragrant olive oil conse-

crated as a sign of Christs pres-encepoured upon the brow as wesay, As Christ was anointed Priest,Prophet, and King, so may you livealways as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life.

So, in being Christ-ed, you areconformed to his image, your life isexpected to be a retelling of his lifein miniature and youeven though

Some say tomatoand somesay tomahtoyou know the oldsong. What do you say when youarrive at church and see a font pre-

pared, a baby in the wings, the pas-chal candle burning? Well, maybeyou will say that were having a

baptism today, or maybe you say

we are having a christening. Theproper term is baptism, since that isthe name of the sacrament. But the

persistent use of christening in ourculture, probably from due to theinfluence of the Episcopal Church, isinteresting.

Baptism, an ancient word, isfrom the Greek meaning to dip or to

you may be squirming or sleepingare commissioned to be a priest, a

prophet, a king. This means that youare called to be one who worships, you are called to speak the truth, youare called to shape the world andexercise right judgment. That is thedeepest treasure of our tradition, and

every time you gather to celebrate abaptism, you renew your vows pre-cisely so that you can be moreChrist-ed. No matter what vocabu-lary you assign to the liturgy, the keyis transformation of the human per-son in the community of the Body ofChrist.

A Thank You Note From Fr. Michael L. ZoufalDear Parishioners,Thank you for the beautiful farewell that you had for me last weekend. Your kindness and generosity toward

me will always be fondly remembered. Because of your generosity I was able to make a $1,500 donation in the

name of St. Albert the Great Parish to the Mission of Our Lady of Angels in the West Humboldt Park area of Chi-

cago. The Fathers and Religious Sisters at Our Lady of Angles Parish have a tremendous outreach program to the

poor and needy on the Westside of Chicago. The donation I gave in your name will go a long way in helping

families that are suffering. I am most grateful for this kindness you have allowed me to do in your name. May

the Lord reward you abundantly for all the sacrifices you make in His Honor and Glory.

I promised many of you to give you my new address; it is as follows:
