11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"This is how it is with the kingdom of God."

What is a kingdom? Is it the brick and mortar

that build up the castle? Is it the expanse of

land a king can reasonably defend? Our no-

tions of kingdoms may be romanticized in the

modern era, but for the Israelites, a kingdom

held deep historical meaning. Thousands of

years before the birth of Christ, the Israelites

had asked God for a king. After the reigns of

David and Solomon, the united kingdom dis-

solved into factions, and the land was con-

quered by the Assyrians, Babylonians, and,

finally, Romans. For the Israelites, a kingdom

was something to build, both structurally and

civilly. While this had ended in ruin for their

ancestors, many of Jesus' contemporaries

longed for the restoration of an earthly king-

dom.

Jesus' words in today's Gospel are a radical

departure from this perspective. He compares

the Kingdom of God to a field, but it appears

that the farmer has little to do with its pro-

gress. "The seed would sprout and grow, he

knows not how. Of its own accord, the land

yields fruit." Jesus introduces his followers to

a new sort of kingdom, a kingdom where God

provides the growth.

There is work to be done, of course. "When

the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once,

for the harvest has come." But for the King-

dom of God to flourish, there are certain

things that are outside of our control. We sow

seeds of kindness, justice, and integrity ? and

then we must be patient. As shoots of faith

appear, we nurture the growth with encour-

agement. As Christians, our task is not to

build the Kingdom of God under our power

alone, but to trust in the life-giving movement

of God.

NUESTRA PARTICIPACIÓN

ESPIRITUAL EN LA EUCARISTÍA

Les recordamos que las hostias y el vino, que se usan

para la celebración de la Eucaristía en nuestra

parroquia pueden ser donadas por una intención

especial: enfermedad, acción de gracias, salud,

cumpleaños, etc., o en recuerdo de un ser querido,

que ya falleció, y serás o serán los encargados de

llevar las ofrendas para su consagración.

La intención será anunciada en el boletín semanal,

para que los demás miembros de la parroquia, en

gratitud por la ofrenda, se unan en la oración.

Pasen por la Oficina de la Casa Parroquial para hacer

los arreglos necesarios con anticipación.

BAUTISMO DEL NIÑO O NIÑA

Los padres interesados en bautizar a sus niños, deben

ser miembros activos y registrados en nuestra

parroquia.

(Sobres con el número de registración parroquial)

Y llamar a la oficina para hacer una cita, la misma que

debe ser hecha por lo menos 6 semanas antes del

bautizo.

BODAS

Favor fijar la fecha de la ceremonia en la Iglesia por lo

menos 6 meses antes de la Boda. Hable con el diacono

ED para hacer una cita, y recibir la información

completa para la preparación del matrimonio en la

Diócesis.

Intenciones de la Misa

La celebración de la Eucaristía se compone

principalmente de acción de gracias y oración a

Dios. Por esta razón, es nuestra práctica en la

parroquia de que cuando se solicita una

intención "en acción de gracias" o "en honor

de" durante la Misa, esa intención se publica y

se ofrece como la "intención especial" de la

persona que solicita la intención de la Misa.

Los fieles que solicitan intenciones para la Misa

deben acercarse a la oficina de la parroquia de

lunes a viernes de 9:00am -3:00pm, o de 7:00pm

a 9:00pm, e inscribir en el libro su intención. La

actual ofrenda sugerida para una intención de la

Misa aquí en nuestra parroquia es de $15

dólares (aunque algunos eligen dar más a medi-

da que sus capacidades lo permitan).
