World Environment Day
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on
5th June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive
environmental action. It is run by the United Nations
Environment Programme. It is one of the principal vehicles
through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide
awareness of the environment and enhances political
attention and action.
It was the day that United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began. World
Environment Day is hosted every year by a different city with a different theme and is commemorated
with an international exposition in the week of 5 June. World Environment Day is celebrated in many
ways in countries such as Kenya, New Zealand, Poland, Spain and the United States. Activities
include street rallies and parades, as well as concerts, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns. In
many countries, this annual event is used to enhance political attention and action towards
improving the environment. This observance also provides an opportunity to sign or ratify
international environmental conventions.
on World Environment Day i.e. 5th June2012, has successfully
completed the first pilot project of Rain Water Harvesting for rural village, TalaiPada, located in
Dahanu district of Maharashtra. The villagers at TalaiPada were facing severe water scarcity and
they had to walk 3 - 4 kms to fetch water for their daily needs. BFI has constructed a ground storage
reservoir of 3 lakh litre capacity which will collect the rain water from the collection surface and serve
the population of about 350 people, having annual rainfall of about 3,000 ml. The GSR will serve
them water for about 60 - 90 days during peak summer months. BFI is further targeting to complete
21 such villages in different areas of Thane district in association with the government of
Maharashtra.

AyurvedaThe word ayurveda has been coined by the conjunction of two Sanskrit words, “ayur” meaning life and
“veda” meaning knowledge. The word together means the knowledge of life. Ayurveda is an ancient
holistic system of medicine from India that understands health in terms of a constitutional model. Each
of us manifests a mixture of each of the three constitutional energetic forces – or doshas. Its aim is to
provide guidance regarding specially designed treatments, food and lifestyle so that health can be
optimized and illness healed.
Benefits of Ayurvedic MedicinesPhysical Banefits: Noninvasive diagnostic ayurvedic treatments are beneficial for chronic
patients suffering from diseases such as diabetes, heart ailments and cancer. Difficult
diseases like asthma and tumor growths (gulmas) are managed effectively by these
diagnostic methods. Detoxification methods of ayurveda like panchakarma and other
herbal health remedies, when applied wholly or singly, make the body more responsive to
medicines and treatment. It hastens the healing process. Psychological Banefits:
Perhaps ayurveda is the first such medical systems who recognizes that all diseases are
but the direct manifestation of one`s mental conditions. In fact, the condition of body
and mind are integral to the overall health of an individual. Ayurveda stresses on four
principles—regulation in ahara (food habit), vihara (activities), nidra (sleeping habit), and
maithuna (sexual habit), to maintain the balance and equanimity of the mind. Ayurvedic
massages, inhalation of herbal (Aromatherapy) preparations, panchakarma (nasya)
besides the much-tested yogasanas and meditation leave a calming effect on the nerves.
Spiritual Banefits :Ayurveda emphasizes that the individual has to experience its
oneness with the universe. The treatment methods, diet and lifestyle regimen in ayurveda
are meticulously planned to heal the body as well as enrich the mind and the soul of each
different individual. So that each can improve from their own levels to the higher goal of
realizing the full self-potential.
By using ayurvedic and herbal medicines you ensure physical and mental health without
side effects. The natural ingredients of herbs help bring “arogya” to human body and
mind. ("Arogya" means free from diseases). The chemicals used in preparing allopathy
medicines have impact on mind as well. One should have allopathy medicine only when it
is very necessary.
Ayurvedic treatment is non-invasive and non-toxic, so it can be used safely as an
alternative therapy or alongside conventional therapies.
Ayurvedic physicians claim that their methods can also help stress-related, metabolic,
and chronic conditions.
Ayurveda has been used to treat acne, allergies, asthma, anxiety, arthritis, chronic
fatigue syndrome, colds, colitis, constipation, depression, diabetes, flu, heart disease,
hypertension, immune problems, inflammation, insomnia, nervous disorders, obesity,
skin problems, and ulcers.
