The Philly Junior Tour is committed to helping our members improve their
competitive golf game, and reach their personal goals. This is why you see
tournaments on our schedule listed as JGS #1, JGS #2, ect. The letters “JGS” stand
for Junior Golf Scoreboard, which is a national rankings system for junior golfers in
the United States.
To meet requirements for Junior Golf Scoreboard,
our ranked tournaments must be:
1) At least 36 holes
2) Division must have 5 players
3) Minimum of 4,500 yards and not shorter than
the forward most USGA-rated tees
4) No stroke limit rule in place
All of our events labeled “JGS” meet these requirements, as long as at least 5
players sign up in your division. For a junior golfer to be part of the JGS-ranked
event, they must compete in all the tournaments that are associated with that
number. For instance, if two events are listed as JGS #1, juniors must compete in
both of those tournaments. If 3 events are listed as JGS #2, juniors must compete
in all three of those tournaments to be nationally-ranked. A junior golfer is not
required to play in all the events associated with that JGS number—they may
register and play in any 18-hole tournament individually, but will not be included in
the national rankings. If you have any questions about JGS events, let us know!

The Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking system is based on a formula that reviews a
player’s record in 36-hole or longer tournaments over the last 365 days.
Tournaments drop out of the calculation after one year. A player must have four
events posted within the year to be ranked. Players are ranked overall, and also
against all players within their graduation class. Below is a simplified explanation of
the individual rankings breakdown. For a more detailed explanation, please visit the
Junior Golf Scoreboard website: www.juniorgolfscoreboard.com
From Junior Golf Scoreboard’s About Us:
The Junior Golf Scoreboard was created by a group of parents whose children have
been involved in all levels of junior golf, from local competitions to the U. S. Junior
Amateur and AJGA events, and most of whom have gone on to play golf at the
college level. The founders of the Junior Golf Scoreboard saw a real opportunity to
help junior golfers market themselves, find tournaments more easily and assess their
playing skills against other junior golfers without necessarily having to travel all over
the country.
Individual Scoring (65%): How well the player scores when playing in
tournaments.
Strength of Field (25%):
The number displayed here is the result of our
proprietary ranking formula that determines a score for
all the tournaments played by this individual.
Strength of Finish (10%):
Finishes are weighted in accordance with the number
of players competed against (size of the field).
