I want to touch base with you to let you know about a few things that we have going on. First, we have updated our Facebook page and would love to have you check it out. Give us a like at Express Employment Professionals -- Woodbury, MN . We have also updated our website and are excited about the new change. We want to make sure that our clients and associates are getting the most up-to-date information that we can offer them. In addition, we are sponsoring a High 5 for Supplies drive and are asking if our clients and employees will donate school supplies for children less fortunate. High 5 for Supplies is an effort by Simon Says Give whose goal is to pack over 10,000 backpacks for kids all throughout Minnesota for the 2015-2016 school year. Simon Says Give is a local non-profit started in 2011 by Mandi Simon who, at that time, was 7 years old. She wanted to make a difference in children's lives. This is one way in which we can be part of that. As a partner with Express, we would like to get you involved, too. This school supply drive is comparable to a Toys for Tots drive. If you would like to be a drop-off center for these supplies and ask your employees if they would participate, we will provide you with a container for donations. We will periodically pick up the supplies until August, when the campaign ends. If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you and have a good day. Kimberly Hemingway

SWCTC WINS TELLY AWARD Submitted by Ann Simpson, SWCTC

May 14, 2015 – The South Washington County Telecommunications Commission (SWCTC) received a Telly Award in the Entertainment Category for coverage of the 2014 Holiday Train. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor. SWCTC captured the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train’s visit to Cottage Grove, Minnesota in December. The winning video was a team effort by SWCTC production staff, with Government Producer Justin Atkinson directing and editing the final video. The lighted train stopped near the Belden Crossing where professional musicians performed holiday tunes for a crowd of thousands to raise money for the Friends in Need Food Shelf. View the winning video here: https://vimeo.com/114518037 The Telly Awards were founded in 1979 and are a premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs. Gardens bring a lot of joy and life into our home and hearts. The pain and limitations of arthritis, however, may prevent us from enjoying this popular pastime. Below are a few tips to help you participate in gardening this season. First and foremost, keep up with arthritis management. Work with your physician and a physical therapist to make sure you are managing your overall arthritis as effectively as possible throughout the day, not just when you're in the garden. Change your routine and break the project into steps. Most gardeners have a set pattern that carries them through their gardening chores, but this routine usually predates arthritis pain. If you're used to spending hours preparing flower beds, weeding and pruning, arthritis symptoms tend to go wild. Be sure to take regular breaks and admire your work. Use hand tools that have large handles to take the stress off your finer joints. You can find tools geared for people with arthritis in almost any gardening catalogue. If you don't want to replace your tools, tightly wrap pipe insulation or rags around the handles to make them thicker and easier to handle. Also, use a cart with wheels or a wagon to carry tools, plants, etc. Try to work with support at waist level by using a small garden bench in situations where you'd otherwise be squatting down or bending low. Some gardening benches have knee pads so you can move easily from sitting to kneeling if you need to. Or, consider planting in pots and containers. Respect your body. Your inner 18-year-old wants to work through the pain, but that's not a good approach. Arthritis can be painful, but you can make a gardening plan that respects your arthritis symptoms.
