Our Savior’s Shared Journey
“June and the Season of Pentecost” I sometimes wonder if even “every week” church people (you know, the ones
who worship and stuff every week) notice the change of seasons.
I am not talking about “spring” and “summer”; I don’t think many people miss
what the weather is doing (although, this year, it may have been possible to miss
spring, even though it came and went several times…).
No, I am wondering if you noticed that the Altar is green now. We (in the main-
line churches, the so-called “liturgical” churches) call it “Pentecost.”
Not to be confused with the day of Pentecost (that was May 15), the celebration
of the coming of the Jesus-promised Holy Spirit into the life of Jesus’ disciples that
made it possible for the early church to respond to Jesus’ final commands to love
each other, and go into all the world, baptizing in the name of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit, making disciples, teaching the world all that Jesus had
taught.
No, this Pentecost is a long season of exploring the growth the Holy Spirit promises
and enables. It is a “green” season because it is about growth, and new life, and
hope; all gifts of God, promises of Jesus, work of the Holy Spirit. It is when we won-
der together if what we celebrated on Pentecost Sunday can continue to make
a difference through us in the world today. It is when we wonder if we, the whole
Christian church on earth can respond to Jesus’ final commands to love each
other, and go into all the world, baptizing in the name of the Father and the Son
and the Holy Spirit, making disciples, teaching the world all that Jesus had taught.
Did anyone notice?
I pray you all did; that it didn’t get lost in the shuffle that moved your world from
May to June.
We have been talking about “What God is calling us to do” for quite some time
around Our Savior’s of Cloquet. Many of you have shared the ideas God has
placed in your care. The point is to be Easter People (living the power of the fear-
lessness of the Resurrection) in a Pentecost world. When I say “Pentecost world,” I
mean a world that needs what God’s Spirit offers in Christ: confidence, commit-
ment, communication, co-operation, camaraderie, compassion, and more.
When I say “Pentecost world,” I mean a world that needs what God’s Spirit offers
in Christ: faith, hope and love. When I say “Pentecost world,” I mean a world that
needs what God’s Spirit offers in Christ through us.
The Church Season of Pentecost is centered in the growing season of the North-
ern Hemisphere for a reason. To help us comprehend that what God is calling us
to do, whatever specifics we focus on moving forward as God’s people in this
place, it is finally to assure us that God can do it here, in us! It is to assure us that as much as we tend the lawn or garden or trees, the growth comes from God; that
we are partners with the Spirit, entrusted with the Gospel and the Cross and the
Resurrection and the Holy Spirit. The grass and the gardens grow, the trees bud
and fruit, and so does the Gospel. That is God at work in us in the world.
I am on that Pentecost journey with you!

Tech Support Needs
We have a critical need for technical support.
Video operators, sound board operators and projector operators are all needed. Can YOU help? The systems are all simple to operate.
Please let the office, Brad Browers, or Curt Skowlund know if you would consider helping
out, either regularly or occasionally.
To the Our Savior’s Staff,
Many thanks for opening your doors for our “Heart to Heart”
event on April 30th! You had a beautiful facility to meet in,
and it was “extra special” to have the new round tables to use!
(We didn’t even need to have tablecloths!!) You all were so
thoughtful and helpful...it was a joy to be there. May God
continue to use you as a blessing in the community.
Appreciatively, The Heart to Heart Gals

Of Dishwashers and Coffee servers……………
Everyone loves having coffee available after our
Sunday services. Having coffee available requires
volunteers as servers. If washing the cups afterward is
holding you back from taking a turn as a coffee server,
there is a solution. We have three members who have
volunteered to take turns washing the cups if the Sun-
day servers are not comfortable running the dish-
washer. (They may do it on Sunday or they may come
in on Monday and wash them.) Just drop a message to
the office that you are planning on serving but will
need help with the wash-up.
Along a similar line –If anyone would like to get
trained on using the dishwasher, let the church office
know and a training time will be arranged.
With a wounded heart: Please, keep me and my family in your prayers; Don and
Virginia Hill, my brother and sister-in-law, found their 34
year old son, Jason, dead from suicide yesterday morning
in his apartment in Richland, WA. Jason had, up to this
point, endured a 15 year battle with bi-polar disorder. Re-
cently his medications had gotten badly disorganized after
a stay in the State Mental hospital and jail. Our family will
be joining the extended family at some future time in the
forest near our family home at Sacheen Lake, WA, for an
event to remember and celebrate Jason's life. In the mean-
time your support and understanding will be a blessing to
us all.
Thank you; we trust in the resurrection and grace of Jesus
for Jason's sake and ours.

FOOD FOR 5 MEALS - $1.00
The first Sunday of the month is designated as
Food Shelf Sunday. Just $1.00 can provide food
for 5 meals through the program at 2nd Harvest
Food Bank in Duluth. The monetary gifts col-
lected will help both 2nd Harvest and Cloquet
Salvation Army. This is a real bargain that every
family can take part in. May we share our bless-
ings with those in need.
THANK YOU for your continued support. It's
greatly appreciated.

Seminary support for Christina
Some have asked how to financially support Christina in her
studies at the seminary. The church has a designated account
set up for this. A donation can be made to Our Savior’s with
a note on the memo line or on the envelope requesting that it
go to Christina’s seminary expenses. Your support will be
greatly appreciated.

God’s Work Our Hands – Sunday September 18th
OSLC, Zion and Queen of Peace will again be working together
on various community service projects for God’s Work Our Hands
Day on September 17th. Please save the date and plan to support this
great community outreach.
Last year Queen of Peace had about 95 volunteers, Zion had
about 130, OSLC had 30. Let’s take on the challenge of having as
many volunteers this year as our outreach partners. Work on the
18th will include assisting senior and disabled community members
with home projects as well as opportunities to help at area non-
profits and work on various city projects. Others who may prefer
less physical contributions can help prepare health kits, and baby kits
for Lutheran World Relief and Seafarers Kits for the Duluth Sea-
farer’s Mission. We will also want some volunteers to help serve
lunch. GWOH T-shirts are available with Our Saviors Lutheran
Church on the back for $8. Watch for sign-up sheets in the narthex.
Do you know someone who could benefit from a helping hand on
September 18th. If so, please forward that name to the church office.

In a blink of an eye, our school year has flown by. We started the year with 12 students and ended with 20. We have learned so much during this time. It is so great to share God's love with the children and their inquiring minds. We went on many field trips and had many people come to our classroom to share their stories and talents. In other words, It was a wonderful year. Thank you to our church family that cared so much for each of us. Your support of our preschool is so appreciated. We look forward to seeing you all next fall. Happy summer!! The teachers and preschool children PLEASE CONTINUE TO SAVE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Shiny Paper 2. Sunny D labels 3. PPC Minutes
OSLC Parish Planning Council Minutes for Tuesday, April 19th, 2016
Present: Officers Mary Krohn, Cindy Haglin, Curtis Skowlund, Bruce Larson Ministry Team Representatives: Jan Larson, Christina Kadel-bach, Chris Wagner, Dean Haglin, Brad Bowers, Marty Rye, Dave Meister, Pastor Chris Hill; Guests:
Opening Prayer/ Devotion President Mary called the meeting to order at 7:01pm and Pastor Chris said an opening prayer and Devotion.
Review/Approve Last Meeting Minutes The minutes of the previous month’s meeting were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer’s Report - Bruce Larson For the third month in a row, revenues were over budget (although only by $117 but hey, a streak is a streak, right?) and the bottom line was better than planned. YIPPEE (that would be Greek for Jehovah Jirah I believe)! Between the Easter and the Envelope Offering budget lines we were down $1400. However, loose offering was up by over $1100 to make up for most of it. Expenses were $1400 under plan thanks to small savings in a variety of areas. YTD totals are now $1800 over budget in revenue, $2300 under budget in expenses, resulting in a net YTD income of about $4100 better than planned. ALL GOOD! Boiler Loan is at about $19,500 and have about $7,200 in the Account to pay on it and have about $12,300 left to pay with pledges still coming in but it is the last year. The roof loan is at about $33,000 unfunded right now. Total $2,731.35 raised at the Chili Cook Off. Match Challenge is at just over $18,000 as of today 4/19/16. Dave made a motion to accept seconded by Christina. All in favor

SIMPLY GIVING
For those of you who use Simply Giving for your offering, there are pink cards available in the pews for you to use. How it works: To show your support of using Simply Giving, place the card in the offering plate. It’s that easy. This gives other members a visual and reminder of the Simply Giving program. If you are not enrolled in Simply Giving, and would like to be, there are forms in the office, in the Narthex, and on our Church website. www.oursaviorscloquet.org
Shiny paper recycling Remember to bring in your old magazines to recycle. All the profits go to our New Horizons Christian Preschool. They are accepting white paper too! There is a bin under the bulletin board in the Narthex. It can also be brought to the Preschool area.

WHERE: Church Library
WHEN: Most Sunday mornings and during weekly
office hours.
We offer cards and gifts for all occasions.
Choose gifts that make a difference! Shop for beautiful Fair Trade home décor, accessories and other unique hand crafted items made by marginalized artisans and farmers living around the world. Your purchases help them gain the income and skills they need to feed their families and send their children to school.
Coffee with a Lutheran Flavor
The LWR Coffee Project is a partnership between Lu-theran World Relief and Equal Exchange.
The LWR Coffee Project unites you with farmers who labor to fill your cup. Buying Fair Trade gives coffee farmers steady income to send their children to school, make sure their communities have clean water, and pro-tect their environment. Lutherans and coffee… the two come together when neighbors gather at church for fellowship. Fairly traded coffee shares more of the bounty of the crop with those who grow it. Improved incomes and trustworthy partners enable small farmers to build a better future for their families and communities. The LWR Coffee Project is a way to reach out with what we spend on something as ordinary and wonderful as coffee. It’s Good Coffee for a Good Cause.
Every Sunday we enjoy Fair Trade coffee following wor-ship services in the Narthex.
OSL’s Fair Trade Store has many varieties of coffee, tea and chocolates as well as baking cocoa, hot cocoa, al-monds, olive oil and olivewood carvings. Stop in the of-fice during regular hours or visit us on Sunday’s between worship services.
OUR SAVIORS CUPS FOR SALE
Cups with the new Our Saviors logo are available for
sale for $10 in the Fair Trade Store. Some have told us
that $10 is a bit expensive; however, the cups cost
almost $6 to make, and this is a fundraiser.
Thank you to all who purchase cups!
