VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: FAITHFULLNESS
Dear St. John Families,
Welcome to summer break! This has been an
amazing year filled with learning, exploring, understanding and
growing in faith.
As we end this school year, we say good‐bye to Ms. De Agazio,
Ms. Nassuna, Ms. Ramsay, Ms Hulme and Ms. Pawlina who will
be joining new school communi es in the TCDSB. Ms. Chorazy
will not be returning in September as she will focus on taking
care of her family. We also wish Ms. Aleksic all the best as she
begins new adventures in her re rement. We thank them all
for their dedica on to our students and we wish them all the
best.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the St. John
Catholic School Parent Council and all those who volunteered
this year for working with the school to provide so many op‐
portuni es for our students. The staff and students are very
grateful for your trust and support in making this a great year.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019. We
ask that the grade 1 to 8 students gather in the school yard
where their teachers will be wai ng for them. Class lists will
be posted that morning. Our FDK students (JK and SK) are
asked to please meet at the front of the school where their
teachers and DECE’s will be ready to welcome them. A
reminder that our school day starts at 8:30 am.
Finally, I want to thank you all for your con nued support. The
strong partnership that exists between home, church and
school is what makes St. John such a great place to learn for
our students. I look forward to building on our successes next
year.
Wishing you all blessings and best wishes for a safe and res ul
summer vaca on.
Yours in Partnership,
David Comacchio

READ ON PROGRAM
Thank you to our Read On volunteers. This was yet another successful year, engaging our students with the love of reading.
The Eco Scouts had a very exci ng year including receiving a Silver Medal from Eco Schools!
The EcoScouts created a video at the beginning of the year that became our mantra for all Eco ini a ves. The words “You Make the World Beau ful” became the ongoing theme for the year. (I have a ached the video for your viewing
pleasure.)
Under the Eco banner, we collected markers to be recycled, clothes to be recycled, a ended a “Waterbrothers” documentary about garbage in our oceans, and raised money for the homeless on Toque Tuesday. Last week, a handful of Eco Scouts and myself a ended an Eco Summit at the Catho‐lic Educa on Center. They were inspired by the words spoken by Ke‐hkashan Basu, a teenage Eco Warrior as she spoke about her involvement in Eco ini a ves and the founda on she started called Green Hope. In addi on to all these ac vi es, The Eco Scouts weeded the medal planters at the front of the school and thanks to funds given by the CPSC , stu‐dents were able to plant some pollinator plants.
The EcoScouts would like to thank all those who directly or indirectly were involved in the Eco ini a ves this year including but not limited to Mr. Commachio, teachers, the custodial staff, and the parent council members.
Remember, together “We Can Make the World Beau ful”.
Your Eco Scouts Leader,
Ann DeAgazio
A big thank you to the grade 6s that volunteered to be door monitors now that we have locked doors at recesses. We’re tweaking the system for next
year and learning from it and how we can have student door monitors but in general, a quick thanks for giving up their recesses to do it.
Developmental Assets
Thank you all for another
amazing year of leadership
and service as a Catholic
School. The Developmental
Assets team worked relessly
this year to provide students
with dynamic and enriching
opportuni es to build
leadership among our
students. We look forward to
another successful year.

CLASS PLACEMENT FOR SEPTEMBER 2019-2020
The process for the formation of class lists for September has begun. The first step in this process is to determine class organization, JK to grade 8, consistent with Board, Ministry and Contract Guidelines. Each student will be individually discussed and placed according to what staff believes is best for the child.
Our goal is to establish balanced classes to provide effective working groups which will benefit all children in each class. The right combination of students and teacher (s) opens the door of learning. Teachers from both the receiving and sending grades will meet to carefully consider the following criteria:
Learning styles
Social grouping/peer group dynamics
Student work habits
English as a Second Language consideration
Balance of males/females
Distribution of special needs/program students
Behavioural considerations and needs
Siblings in the same class
Previous placement (combined vs. single grade)
The above-mentioned factors, along with the general information that the sending teacher brings, is utilized to create classes that we hope will permit each student to work well during the next academic year. I am sure that you can appreciate that creating the best and most functional class groupings possible is a task which requires much thought and careful planning.
Accepting parental requests for specific teachers would not be in the best interest of all the children in the school, as it could restrict school staff forming what we consider the most ideal classroom groupings.
We appreciate your understanding and co-operation
